Love that Peter's channel has turned into an amalgam of history, anthropology, geography, religion and philosophy, all with a very simple approach. Everything else like this is way too hyperfocused on one aspect. Peter's giving us the everyday look at tons of human communities all across America, which is vested with so much of world-influencing history. Thank you sir, long may it continue!

@@crowcrow1465 I agree. I just thought the 'invitation for dinner interview' with the Mormon group in Provo , was a little mushy. I thought he was going to explore the complete political control the church has over the entire state. The U.S. constitution clearly separates the two. There have been wrongful execution in the state because the church strongly condones the death penalty. They use the "eye for an eye" saying in the Bible to justify their reasoning.

JWs doesnt have only JWs places, everyone are welcome to everywhere to visit, nothing like mormon´s temple. No secret rituals. Only one book is forbidden for non male and you need to be an elder to get it. I knew that book but my JW elder dad did good job to hide from me when I was little girl. I got the copy of it and I have been reading most part of it just cos I´m curious. If you stop to be an elder they need to give that book back. Sorry not sorry that I have read it as female. 😂

I grew up in Alabama. I moved to Arizona for a new life because I had friends there. I remember there being a thrift store across the street from where I lived that sold stuff for extremely cheap. I swear I could get a button up dress shirt and some job interview dress pants for only like $6. I kept wondering how the store made a profit off of it, just to find out they don’t. It was owned by the Mormon church, and they made it very inexpensive just to help people. They even would even give you a Book of Mormon for free at the checkout. That told me everything I needed to know about LDS. They’re a bunch of loving and caring people who truly want to do good in a world of wrong.

I grew up and live in Mesa (which was founded/settled by Mormons, as are many of the cities in the Phoenix Metro area), spent many summers around the Rim and White Mountains (which is where a lot of these small Mormon-founded communities like Snowflake and Taylor are). Mormons are good people, peculiar and not without faults, but I generally found them to be awesome neighbors and friends and I'm glad series like this shows them as they are. Some of their beliefs and ways are strange and different to me, but having grown up with plenty of LDS friends, they aren't as bad as they are sometimes portrayed to be.

@@janiceellerholz-helton324 Well, notice I kept my comments focused on Mormons (the individuals) and didn't mention their church. As far as I can tell, there is plenty of corruption of hypocrisy in their church. There are some channels here on YT with ex-Mormons who discuss it in detail (and it looks like Peter just released a video talking with an ex-mormon about why they left, but I haven't watched it yet). I just wanted to say, in general, they are good group of people (no less deserving of our understanding than groups like the Amish or Catholics). Just another group of people who believe different things, but by and large, they are family people are very willing to help people out.

@@surfingtothestars It can be seen that way. I'm a Salt Lake Mormon, but have lived in Colorado as a cadet at the Air Force Academy, in Texas as a professor at Texas A&M, as a professor at Univ of Utah, as a professor at Idaho State Univ, as professor in Minsk, Belarus, and as a science lab administrator in Sydney, Australia. So I have seen quite a bit from the secular point of view at a variety of places. My point is that Mormons can be a lot of different things. Salt Lake Mormons are seen as different from Utah Mormons. Idaho Mormons are different just as Arizona Mormons are different. The competition as to who is more sanctimonious? I think what is in the hearts of Mormons is more enduring than what you may see on the street. It can be said that even the most pious from any location can either be sincere or a fraud. I have seen fraud even in the loftiest pillars of the community from the wealthiest neighborhoods along the Wasatch Front. My problem is that when I took upon myself the Code of an Air Force Office at USAFA, I also committed to the non-tolerance clause of the Honor Code. While I don't disavow the religion because of a few bad apples, I also cannot fraternize with them, and I will not lecture them because that would be useless for a sanctimonious hypocrite. So I just get along with them and keep to myself. Now I am not resentful. I have known a lot of good ones that are truly sincere and honest people. But I don't have time to deal with the others as I am a professional that has a lot on my plate with malfeasance in my professional community that places lives in my sphere of responsibility at risk. I manage and administer research nuclear reactors, so I dont'' have time for insubordination, ignorance, and immaturity. Now there is something I want to say about Snowflake and Colorado City. These are genuine people. They are sincere. You have gotten the real deal with them. I saw nothing that I thought was phony. I would have any of them as neighbors any time. I can't say that about some of the east-side Salt Lake neighbors. And that I think is what the difference is between Salt Lake Mormons and Others. However, a few among the others are intolerably, overly pious "seminary jet-setters" that are a little too much for me to gut. There is a fine line. And I think the world sees the same. My 2nd great grandfather was a Methodist Episcopal lay preacher from the Iowa circuit during the last half of the 1800's, so I see this from that perspective.

00:39 🌵 Mormon settlers in Arizona, encouraged by Brigham Young, were instructed to settle in the desert and make it flourish. 01:52 🏜 While proud of their pioneer heritage, modern LDS members emphasize the pioneering efforts of new converts changing cultures. 03:06 📜 The history of Mormon settlers often involves complex family backgrounds, including polygamy and racial issues. 05:08 🌐 The LDS Church has experienced significant growth in membership and has expanded worldwide, influencing missionary work and cultural understanding. 08:17 🏛 Temples are sacred places where LDS members perform ordinances, such as baptisms for the deceased, emphasizing eternal family bonds. 11:15 🤫 The LDS Temple's rituals are considered sacred, although basic information about the temple is openly shared. 12:23 🌟 The location of certain temples aims to accommodate Native American members, with some sessions conducted entirely in Navajo. 16:03 🤝 Eternal sealing in the temple allows LDS members to be united with family members in the afterlife, emphasizing commitments beyond this life. 17:46 🌌 LDS doctrine includes a belief in pre-existence, where individuals chose to come to Earth based on free agency, even Satan is considered a spiritual sibling. 19:06 🛡 While respecting authority and governmental systems, LDS members do participate in military service but prioritize peaceful approaches to conflict. 20:41 ⚔ LDS missionary efforts contribute to language expertise and cultural understanding in organizations like the FBI and CIA. 23:30 🏞 Snowflake, Arizona, with its diverse influences, remains a unique blend of Native American, Mexican, Pioneer, and LDS cultures. 25:37 🌟 The pioneering spirit remains alive in Snowflake, reflecting resilience, self-reliance, and a vibrant community spirit. 27:50 🌨 Lucy, a Mormon settler, once embarrassedly used a "square word" while stuck in the snow, surprising her kids. 28:50 👮‍♂ Law enforcement in the area includes LDS members, forming a close-knit community. 30:43 🌄 The area's LDS population spans generations but doesn't stay equally devout throughout. 32:38 🚔 Locally, law enforcement often includes a high number of LDS members. 34:01 💼 Faith, regardless of denomination, aids law enforcement in handling difficult situations. 35:38 🏞 The community's support makes law enforcement's job easier and the area safer. 36:47 👥 Law enforcement witnesses the best and worst in people, impacting their perspective profoundly. 37:57 🎖 Strong community support uplifts law enforcement amidst national tensions. 40:43 🐎 Rodeo videos served as a pivotal resource for rodeo enthusiasts in the past. 43:41 🏞 Ranching is a passion despite the challenges and office work it now entails. 46:11 🛐 Being a good example and citizen often holds as much weight as religious practice. 51:30 💑 Marriage in the LDS faith is intended to last beyond this lifetime, aiming for eternity. 52:59 🏠 Keith built a house with a Hacienda vibe, inspired by Mexico. 53:41 👫 Keith and Jody met on a blind date in Snowflake and celebrated 26 years together. 54:06 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A family-oriented home with pictures of children and grandchildren, emphasizing the significance of the LDS temple. 54:47 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A larger family structure with 40 grandchildren between Keith and Jody, somewhat uncommon in the LDS community. 55:00 🎻 Keith's family has a musical background, his father playing the bass fiddledespite being a violinist. 55:41 📜 A touching moment when Keith inherited his father's conducting baton, emphasizing the musical legacy in the family. 56:08 🇺🇸 Keith's father's life transformed after returning from WWII, becoming a missionary and finding faith in Jesus Christ. 57:11 🏞 LDS lifestyle: While they have modern amenities, they find peace and joy in their faith in Jesus Christ, akin to the Amish way of life. 57:39 👋 Visiting Snowflake: A unique community with a distinct perspective on ranching and a close-knit atmosphere.

Mormons want everyone to think they are Christian. They believe in thousands of god's, they believe they will be god and have their own planet and enjoy endless sex on their own planet. They are very much like Muslims in that regard.

Your videos are great! I’m LDS and have family from nearly every state in the mountain west. Each area is going to be just a little different. What I’ve found is that you have to separate the church from the local culture. SLC is the culture that most people think of when they think of the church, but the reality is that it’s the same belief system in AZ, ID, CO, and every other state, even though it might feel different because the people are different. Your Utah video seems so different from this, but they are all part of the same church. Meet the Mormons is a great documentary to check out because it shows members from all over the world.

Latter Day Saints. A true Americana religion. Although Roman Catholic, I respect the grit, determination, reliance on family, and taking care of their own of these admirable people. Thank you Peter for taking us along with this production.

Mr. Peter….you sir are in my opinion the true definition of A Pioneer. The way you show people that we are all people with other beliefs and cultures.is amazing . It’s so important to open our minds (if you choose ) to the idea that we are still people with our own beliefs and opinions is ok. Conversation’s should be had to discuss how we all live and not to judge. Hats off to you sir.

My Great Grandfather, Travers Tucker moved his family from Fairview Utah to the LDS Colonies of Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico in 1890's where they worked the contract supplying lumber to build the Railroad. Many of my family was born there and lived there until Pancho Villa's Mexican Revolution of 1910-11 drove out the Mormon/LDS families from Mexico. They once again lost everything. My family returned to Fairview, Utah destitute, after being on the train without food for four days. We are still friends with the Romney's, Farnsworth's, Brown's, Call's and many others. Our extended family is now scattered all over the US. Many of my family now reside in Mesa, Arizona. Peter you should make arrangements to visit the LDS community in Mesa around the Easter holiday and attend the Mesa Easter Pageant that celebrates the life and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the LDS Mesa Temple grounds. Love your work visiting all people that make up the patchwork quilt of our society and life in America!
