The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin (From "Live at Montreux 1991")

The Moody Blues - Nights In White Satin (From "Live at Montreux 1991")
Available Now: mercury-studio...
The Moody Blues were formed in Birmingham in the early sixties and were immediately successful, going to No.1 with their second single Go Now. As the sixties progressed their music evolved into a more lush, psychedelic sound and with the arrival of Justin Hayward and John Lodge the classic line up came together and produced the masterpiece Days Of Future Passed, which contained their classic hit single Nights In White Satin and Tuesday Afternoon. This propelled the band to a new level of success which they have sustained ever since.
Songwriters: Hayward, Justin
Nights in white satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I'd always missed with these eyes before.
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore.
'Cos I love you, yes I love you, oh how I love you.
Gazing at people, some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going through they can't understand.
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end.
And I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.
Nights in white satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I've always missed, with these eyes before.
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore.
'Cos I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.
'Cos I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.
Breath deep
The gathering gloom
Watch lights fade
From every room
Bedsitter people
Look back and lament
Another day's useless
Energy spent
Impassioned lovers
Wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love
And has none
New mother picks up
And suckles her son
Senior citizens
Wish they were young
Cold hearted orb
That rules the night
Removes the colours
From our sight
Red is gray and
Yellow white
But we decide
Which is right
And
Which is an Illusion

The music that was produced in the 70's is the best music in the history of the world; past, present, & future. It was created by people that had lived life & they told their stories with characteristic vision & their own unique flair. But most importantly, the music of the 70's had SOUL. Today's music is canned and it lacks melody, change ups & is sooo predictable. The 70's was a good time to grow-up & be a music lover.

Even if we said that there are "good bands" around today, we can't ever lose the legend of the Moody Blues. They are timeless and will be eternal. Music which shapes and shifts the sands of our history and time

you know what...I was born in '69. Though this is sort of before my time...it's what i grew up with and what really brings me to youtube. You "youngins" have no idea the lengths we had to go to to see our heroes back in the day.Nowadays they are all right here in front of us.I for one consider myself very very lucky to be able to see this. They really are a great band as demonstrated by this performance among many others.

Wow... This song has such emotion, and it connects personally with me. My band and I (I am lead singer and lead guitar) always perform this, even if it doesnt fit in. We are mostly blues and classic rock. This is such a slow, classic sounding song. It NEEDS AND DESERVES to be heard by everyone, regardless of age or musical preference.

Justin still has a lovely voice and they have such a wonderful catalog of songs. I'd love to hear the Moodies do a live unplugged concert. Of course this would be huge undertaking for Justin with the demands of singing and accompanying himself on guitar. Maybe it would be more feasible if they invited a special guest guitarist. There's got to be a well known guitarist out there who's a secret admirer of the Moodies that would be interested.

Every time I hear this song, I take it to heart. I know she will never read this comment but back in March of 1970 we saw the Moody Blues with Florance, Karen, Jimmy and Charles and of course, me. Its been 41 years since 1970, but every time time I hear this greatest of all love songs I think all the letters I was meaning to send and all the beauty I have missed over all these years. Just what the truth is I can't say any more.

How can it fucking be that time passes by so fast ? I can almost relate to this song completly. Because, just think about it, 30 years from now, when you look back to the tiime that passed, and that won't ever come back... will it hurt ? Does it hurt moody blues when they think about how they made one of the greatest hits ever, but it was 40 years ago... Will it hurt us ? Will it ? When we are in our 50' and 60' and we think about our 20' and everything that happended ? Will it hurt to see our children go to high schoold, and comming home drunk, when we look back, and remember our parties ? Will it hurt to be too old to re-live our lives, but enough sane to remember every part of it ? Mere knowledge that life is not a game, a new school day, a new workday, a college, a new start, and that we can't do it 'better next time' ... life is what we are given, and it fucking hurts me that i can't stop everyday that passes by... slowly... fast...

+Kirito Kun: well said Kirito Kun, but being in the 50s myself and looking back now I can say that I learned to look at the here and now, because that's what's real. Memories of the past and visions of my future are mere constructs. Everything, everybody is perishable, so what? Don't feel hurt. If you can acknowledge that your true nature is emptiness, then there is nothing there to hurt you. Yep...

If you've lived your life well it won't hurt to grow old. There's a time and a season (yes, I mean, season) for everything and you'll remember your youth with fondness and a bit of nostalgia, but you'll not want it back because the present is always the best time in which to live! So, no, it doesn't hurt to be too old or too young for that matter. I'm 61and very happy, so, don't worry and just Live! All the best

Fantastic, timeless.
