This is one of the releases that kinda snuck past me, but watching this has me wanting to actually try it. Definitely might reignite my love of Pokémon based on what you had to say, well done man!

I enjoyed watching this! I didn't grow up with the original, so I don't have the nostalgia most of my friends do, but I have enjoyed new pokemon snap.

I like that you reference the special Pikachu from og snap and then show the new snap equivalent here 7:13

I’m still playing through it (it’s dense), but I was disappointed when I heard there aren’t evolutions. Sure the methods weren’t authentic to the games, and TPC is a lot more strict in that regard, but there’s pokemon with various evolution methods they could’ve used. You could knock an Eevee into a moss rock and get Leafeon. Same issues with the signs. There are “landmarks” but they don’t require the right angle to get the understand it, they’re just there and don’t add anything. I still like the game so far (about half way through? got 3 days/2 nights unlocked for 4 stages), but I’m conflicted. It doesn’t seem like the surprises are as memorable as the originals, although there are more, smaller surprises. Like “killing” a Morelull or getting Tyranitar to demolish a boulder. Or anything with Cacnea is great. And after trying to perfect one shot after thoroughly playing a stage, thinking I found everything… I’ll discover something completely new after random experimentation while waiting to get to a specific moment to capture. Despite my issues, I think this game deserves more attention than people gave it on social media. People seemed to quickly move on despite how much there really is to it. I’m “only” about half way through and have put 30h into it. And especially with how much people were clamouring for it, it seemed short-lived. I think it was trending for about 2-3 weeks (basically when most of the sales come in) but died off shortly thereafter. I’m sure partially because of the Mass Effect remasters, but also because people will toss things away fragrantly. Except for yearly open-world Ubisoft games somehow.

It did seem to lose steam on social media after a while post-launch, which is pretty lame, because it does feel refreshing to revisit gameplay of this type with such a wider roster of monsters. And yeah, I like Cacnea a lot as well. One of my favorite evolutionary lines in the Pokemon world for sure.

I'm curious if Nintendo themselves would have had a hand in whether Pokemon Snap got a sequel or not. Given that they only own a stake in the Pokemon Company and do not themselves wholly own the property, it's possible they wouldn't have been able to determine whether it was time to make a sequel or not. I'll assume, for the time being, that it was a wholly Nintendo endeavor, and therefore their unwillingness to create a sequel would likely have been due to the philosophy that the sequel must offer something new. They've said frequently that they don't want to make a sequel if the only difference is going to be prettier visuals, and while they've stretched this logic quite a bit with some franchises (I mean, I guess each Mario Party is different due to new boards despite how frequently they churn those out?), it could be that they'd never had an innovation for Pokemon Snap to be worth a sequel. At this point, I think a combination of increased fidelity and an increased roster, and likely several quality-of-life adjustments, encouraged them to create a new game. At the same time, that passage of time certainly makes it difficult to know how far you can safely stray from the prior game's course. What do you think are the odds of Nintendo releasing new levels via DLC?

I think DLC is feasible, but I also believe that the publishers may consider DLC to distract from other Pokemon projects like Unite and the Diamond/Pearl remake. The overarching economy of this brand is pretty strange, so I don't expect DLC to be released unless there's a significant motive behind it. There's a sizable amount of content here already, so there's that as well.

Can you imagine watching a Pokémon video and then being upset with how many times Pokémon are mentioned? Wouldn’t that be something, if people acted that way. Anyways, cool video, it reminded me of my own memories of playing the original Pokémon Snap on the classic, trusty N64. I remember being heartbroken when my dog Cooper pissed on my console and effectively destroyed it. I guess that was just Cooper’s way of saying “take photos of me instead!” I didn’t, though. I would never give in to a terrorist’s commands. I guess I’m sort of like George W. Bush in that way, and that’s our only similarity aside from the fact that we both have a ridiculous attraction to Barbara Bush’s quickly decaying physique. Cooper passed away a couple years ago, and even if I hated that mutt with all my soul, it was still sad to see him go. I don’t know if my parents buried or cremated or flushed him, but I know he was deserving of a mid tier funeral. Nothing too grandiose, because again he did destroy my N64 with his acidic dog urine, but still the guy deserved a proper send off. That’s why whenever I start a new Pokémon play through I name my HM slave Cooper. I’m respecting his existence, but also making him repent for his sins in the after life. I’m not a religious man but I do believe in the basic laws of karma. Did you ever have a pet you loved but wanted to punish? Let me know and I’ll give you a firm clap on the back for your honesty and I’ll treat you to some delicious TGI Friday’s boneless wings. They’re cheaper on Tuesdays so keep your Tuesdays free. Lots of love and keep up with the epic videos

You said "Pokemon" too many times. Not trying to be pedantic, but it started grating on me pretty fast, and got to a point where I decided to try watching it laer. Honestly, not sure it's going to be a big issue.
