The Moffat Road Part 1 | Denver to East Portal
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Originally released on DVD in 2012, take a tour of Union Pacific's Moffat Tunnel Subdivision between Denver, Colorado and the east portal of the 6.2 mile-long Moffat Tunnel. This section of the former Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad is rugged, steep, and incredibly scenic. Coal trains dominate the scene with plenty of high horsepower diesels on the head-end, middle, and rear.

I am so glad these programs can be seen on KZread. I've never been able to buy any of the DVDs because of financial reasons and now, I'm finally able to see these fine programs here on KZread. I've seen 2 or 3 others so far and I am loving them! I look forward to seeing tons more of these programs! 👍👍👍👍👍
Family got to visit this Area as a Kid many Summers on Vacation from STL. My Dad’s Aunt had a Cabin near Tunnel 28 (between Wondervu & Pinecliffe) before it was Day Lighted. Walked the Scary Tunnel 27 many times. 😬 Thanks for the Great Video. 👍
Alright!! 2 hours of fantastic trains.👍
I got this DVD for Christmas a few years ago. And the line from Denver to Glenwood Springs is especially scenic when you ride either the California Zephyr or the Winter Park Express!
The 6402 was a great catch with SPs on each end , one of my favourite dvds i own
It's good to see the very last legends southern pacifics units
Wow words can't describe how amazing how much footage you and your team has captured back in 2012. Its hard to believe that this was eleven years ago. Outstanding job and keep up with the hard work.

Welcome to The Moffat Sub. If you want to see it in action Virtual Railfan has cameras at Big 10 if you are interested.

A live feed for a line that only sees like 10 Trains in a 24 hour span? Kind of a waste of money if you ask me. Nothingness, it's still a cool route
A tough piece of railroad to give thorough coverage, but y'all did a magnificent job. I really appreciate your effort and dedication, and your marvelous videography.

@@7ideaproductions I appreciate the videography and narration, but your editing is also excellent.
One cannot but be impressed by the vision and engineering that made this route possible - well before the era of aerial mapping and GPS technology. It is unfortunate however that the maintenance of the historical portals (marker 1:39:56+) appears to have been neglected. 2023/10/01. Ontario, Canada.
Wow good work sir😍😍
Great Video and Beautiful scenery. The attention to the perfect shots .I need some of those Pine cones . Every time a train honks at you I wave too. Now I know Amtrak runs by there too.I might have to take that trip sometime. My Grandson is here , He says Grandma are those Oregon Trail ruts going up the hills? I said probably they are Fence line roads. Oh He said . It is Montana ..Can't wait for Part two. That track and Tunnels . your videos are awesome . Mr Moffat did a great job ! Grandson said ..

Your grandson is right. Mr. Moffat did a great job. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
Awesomeness
Good job, pity that David Moffat died in 1911 nearly broke and never got to see the Moffat Tunnel opening.
Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job/illustrated train 🚂route maps. Enabling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Jimmy Rogers was a genuine break men. Till he switched to a singing career 🎸🎶. The " Singing Break Men " he was dubbed. Unfortunately passing his lifespan at 35/from tuberculosis in 1933 😇. Enjoying this presentation from the comfort zone of my computer room. Along the " Space Coast " 🚀of Florida 🐊🐊. Wishing viewers/R.R. Employees a safe/healthy/prosperous ( 2024 )🌈🎉😉.
Wow great vidieo great narration thank you on a side note the climent green people want to replace diesel power with electric this i gota see if. I live long
Can’t wait for PART 2 !!!! 😊
That's another great video and some of that footage is simply breathtaking. Thanks for some amazing work!
Stunning photography that matches an amazing piece of railroad engineering. I don't imaging that David Moffat foresaw trains a mile plus long negotiating his track. My only complaint is the number of adverts in the video, They really spoil the viewing.
That big grade up out of Denver was awesome. I did a trip from Denver to Grand Junction on the west bound California Zephyr. BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Another great video with spectacular scenery. It's interesting how the Colorado topography has influenced track alignment. As an aside, it's nice to see today's railroads remembering past railroads with heritage units.
I grew up in NW Colorado where David Moffat was a legend. His private rail car, the Marcia, sits near the city park in Craig and as a kid we went inside all the time, as it had been restored and was open to the public. We thought it was quite opulent, though in retrospect, it wasn't any more so than most. I rode one of the last passenger runs from Steamboat Springs to Craig as a child before it was discontinued. Your videos are truly top drawer. Thanks for posting!
Vídeo sensacional, falta algum simulador lançar esta rota, seria demais.
When you think about the work and engineering involved with this and most of it over 100 years ago is quite something. The Eisenhower tunnel is amazing but the Moffat is right there. Don't want to overnight on a train, would never fall asleep, but would take Den to Glenwood Springs for sure. The Rocky Mountaineer looks nice but man that ride is pricey. The service and food/drinks look nice, but for around $3K less for a couple to take the Zephyr would be an easy decision for us.
Great video
Awesome Video! Lots of AC44s, and AC60/44CWs and Former SP engines in this video!
This is very entertaining but also very important work. Stunning quality of video and it will be scrutinized and enjoyed for decades to come.
I like train videos on KZread 👍
Best asmr ever
Right in my backyard. I've done a lot of hiking up around Coal Creek mountain and Eldorado Canyon to watch trains. Great footage and narration. I enjoyed this.

Hey man! Ive been watching your stuff since the early 2010s when your productions aired on RFDTV during Trains And Locomotives! Great production as always! Im also glad to see that some of these are being posted to the public! Cant wait to see more! Also do you have a quick rundown or video of the current equipment that you use? The quality is perfect

Thank you for your kind words! Back in 2012, the Moffat video series was shot on a Sony Z5U. My current go-to camera is the Sony Z280. It is perfect for the type of run-and-gun shooting that these videos require. Everything is edited in either Adobe Premiere Pro or Davinci Resolve.

Amazing Footage.
Good show!!!!
That was a great video is probably one of the better ones I've ever seen on the Eastside of The moffat tunnel it's a damn shame you can't get into South Boulder canyon better cuz there are some beautiful shops of Gross reservoir all it's great keep them coming my grandfather worked up on the hill when it was going over the that was a great video it made me miss my Grandpa thank you
Beautiful footage. There is a live rail cam above Arvada, CO, watching Big 10 Curve now. It can be found at Virtual Railfan's KZread channel.
Great video and great scenery! I absolutely love Colorado and the Rockies. Such great weather and things to see and do. Loved seeing the SP units in the consists. Really broke up the monotonous yellow.
Nicely done ❤
Great to see at "1:33:58" those triple DPU's defying gravity at East Portal of the Moffat tunnel 👏 👌 BTW, Greetings from New Zealand 🇳🇿 ❤
Its got the fence around it now. I was there yesterday.
Dude hanging his arm out the Amtrak window like its a car!

Yea, I noticed that too. Kinda expected him to stick his hand out the window and pitch it up and down in the wind like an airplane wing.

You are not supposed to have the windows open on Amtrak
Fantastic video, very entertaining and informative. Would love to know (if at all) how traffic patterns have changed on this line since this was filmed. I spent some time in Glenwood in early 2022 and remember seeing the Amtrak stop through town but not much freight.
Can u do a sand patch grade documentary
I never knew SP ran flashing ditch lights. I thought that was just a CSX and NS thing
Really like the videos, but you only record trains out west?
Am I right to observes the scene at Rollins that both east bound and west bound trains are loaded with coal?

Actually what appears to be a westbound in the siding is the rear of another eastbound.

Hey! Would you wanna give me some tips and tricks for railfanning around here?
Quite interesting that there is no stack trains on this route. 🤔

So the three puller units have to do all the work while the rear DPU quit. Such a quitter locomotive.
