I was at this very clinic in Orlando. I'm standing off camera almost directly behind Moe. Moe was 68 or 69 years old at this time. It's hard to grasp the full splendor/technique/freakishness of just how straight he was hitting every shot - even at this age. Moe could also call height, draw, fade, target with all of his shots with total ease, although time and again he would stress that his favorite shot and the one he most loved was dead straight. Many times he would call the shot, execute it, turn to the audience without even looking at the results right after he hit it, and was on to the next challenge/shot request. I actually attended a Natural Golf two day clinic when I was there just so I could see if the legend of Moe was true. He did not disappoint. Every platitude that Todd & Tim Graves apply to Moe is absolutely accurate. A cherished memory to be sure.

Yea, but what's the secret or the "meat" moves, not potatoes?. Moe, "I'll show you but not tell you!" yea great thanks. . so now we are all left wandering in the wilderness trying to find it. Moe & Hogan in my opinion took the secrets to their grave, as Hogan even stated multiple times, he wase'nt telling. I think part of the equation he is a short strong man with strong wrists like Hogan, and they were able to consistently square it up at impact!

Wish I were there to see his swing in person. I believe Hogan and Moe had their secret. A swing thought that influenced their consistent & brilliant outcomes, and it became a turning point in their careers. I also believe that their perception of their secret differs from the physics of their actual swings. Unfortunately not helpful to us. There is plenty of talent out there hitting thousands of balls each week. Maybe just one individualize swing thought away from becoming a Moe Norman or Ben Hogan! Let’s hope 🏌🏿♂️

What a great golfer he was and probably a very good person too, as I see it. Thank you, mister Graves, for keeping him alive and continuing his work and making it known to many people today. When I started playing golf, I had one of the worst slices ever. I could stand there with the club head turned in at 60 degrees and still be open at impact. The only thing that made it work for me was putting the ball out past my front foot and pretending it was in the middle of my stance. This gave the club head the extra fraction of a second it needed to get square. Now I’m not saying that my swing was perfect after this, but it made it so that I was finally able to hit GIR instead of always slicing and then scrambling.
Moe hit it dead center more often than anyone ever

His secret is simple. Everyone wants it to be a quick fix and simply is not in golf and never will be. His secret is simply learning to hit with loose and quiet hands and basically flexing your left knee a little towards your big toe keeps you down the line longer. You can swing as hard as you want as Hogan describes if you can keep your hands and wrist loose and tension free.

@darrellknister9064

He mentions it at the beginning when he talks about the slingshot technique and having his trail arm underneath the lead arm through impact. I believe he's talking about having very supple wrists at the top of the backswing and at the beginning of the transition to the downswing? The supple wrist action leads to tremendous lag as the body starts rotating and the arms and hands have to catch up. That coupled with the trail arm stone-skipping release creates significant clubhead speed. I've been working at this on the range and have seen some impressive increases in distance. I'm 60 years young and flying the ball 250-260 consistently with the driver. The irons are even more impressive.

I too believe it's the slingshot motion coupled with with his hips slightly angled back and although moe uses the same plane, his body goes from virtually straight on back swing to bent down on forward swing. If you watch the swing in slow motion, hes already coming down while the club is still going up.
@brianjohnson3782

Dave Kempema I recently watched a video of two guys on a simulation. They had all the read outs on the computer. When the ball is struck just above center on the driver you get much less ball rotation better loft and much better distance. You can see the first three tries Moe states “didn’t get it” then he tees the ball up a little higher and that’s when they start flying.
👍👍👍

His real secret was his hand action he played golf with his hands now you know sheep
@GravesGolf
3 жыл бұрын
Moe said Sam Snead told him he has the best hand action in golf at the 56 Masters. His hand action was directly related to his setup and overall swing mechanics-which is similar to that of Bryson DeChambeau. Moe's hands could deliver the speed with minimal variables in his motion by starting and impacting on a single plane, his neutral lead hand grip simplified the motion of the club up and down and allowed him to keep the club face square longer through impact, his trail arm and trail hand were set into a more underneath and non-rotational position with 15-20 degrees of side bend at address (closely matching the impact position), and his motion worked around a stabilized lower body (flexed lead knee at impact) allowing him to maximize club head speed at the right time without over-rotating or lifting the body up (putting stress on the spine). Todd Graves goes into this in the video below, which includes video of Moe talking about his hands "chasing" in the downswing and release kzread.info/dash/bejne/moaMkqqKYc-nkpM.html

@@SuperDakiz Supe - Is it really possible to 'remove' the hands from the swing? They certainly link the movement of the body to the club, right?
i appreciate Moe, but he talks and other pros back him up as if he is the end all be all, but ironically nobody is copying him, and and I can't help but point out it took him four attempts to hit a particular high and long drive. I hope people understand what truly legendary means or even world champion means for that matter. From my experience and as hard as it may seem to believe, when demonstrating and now for them, truly not under pressure, they demonstrate on the first attempt and not the second or third or fourth, because even a semi-pro could do that. Just saying. And I don't care at all for his Ben Hogan reference, as if he has solved the mystery of the master move or essence of the golf swing itself, by theorizing which way the club will fall if removed from your hands, in concept or reality. Obviously his determination of saying the club will fall out the opposite direction, by allowing the club head to hit the ground and then with his own hands flip the grip end the opposite direction as his proof, is purely concept and not reality in terms of his own swing theory. What Moe does, is hardly genius, it is certainly admirable though and is needed and should be appreciated and given special considerations of course because he is in reality "X-experimental" and that's why research and development is a part of any legitimate business, an amount of budget is allotted for new ideas and discoveries. But all he has proven in reality, is the essence of what it takes to put oneself in a position in which, options are eliminated to a high degree. Its a reverse engineering concept in which the endeavor itself is too hard to measure and therefore somewhat ambiguous, so if expressed in the equation of "make or miss", then what he has done here, is shown you how to eliminate the possibility of Miss and now all there is left is make, which means everything happens at the beginning, and if you start out the event properly, then the byproduct is what you see because in effect, he cannot miss. But obviously he did four times in a row when making a claim and demonstration, and unfortunately, all his sacrifice and gallant effort, is flushed down the drain, because it's either we like the guy or we like the golf swing and everything it entails in terms of golf excellence because at the end of the day, methodology and technique is the system. Does not Moe, speak in terms of conventionality as we know it is wrong? Of course he does. The correct answer is right in the middle if you're talking about the ultimate in golf success, which means golf swing is the system. And since we know for now that it's safe to say we need to swing a club in order to achieve the ultimate in golf success, then it's obvious, we base our methodology and approach toward the middle as close as possible, where are the most options are available, and of course, the most volatile and chaotic lies because The cutting edge always becomes finer and finer. The reason I win this argument, and Moe does not, is because he is 100% right in game theory, what game theory has changed, when all of a sudden we enter "tiger proofed the Masters" into the formula. THEORY: Moe = master move CONJECTURE: MOE = marble size callus on the inside of his left palm. QUESTION: Moe = master move - callus marble = ? All i would have to do is examine his driver grip to start a clear basis for argument in clinical terms of research and development and has nothing to do with scrutinization or praise of the man himself because it's a question of golf swing plus golf excellence. Thank you

There's a TV Show where this guy is a genius. One episode he plays golf with his dad. Can't hit it out of his own shadow....

Your an idiot who knows nothing about golf.
Well what the heck is he doing? "I'll show you but not tell you." And repeated, "I'm the only guy who knows the Hogan & his secret" I lost all faith in Moe & some respect with those statements!! For those of us who spend literally millions $$$ on golf every year and want to learn and get better, he let's us all down. Moe was decent guy, but he let thousands of fans and golf disciples down my opinion. He just gives ya some potatoes, but no meat!

How many of those dollars went into Mr. Norman's pocket in exchange for handing out that information? If you didn't pay him to give you the knowledge, then he owes you nothing. Figure it out yourself, just like he did and like Hogan did. They spent hundreds of hours hitting balls to learn the secret, but now he is supposed to just tell everyone without an ounce of effort on their part? Yeah, sure.

I have been trying the single plan swing for the past few weeks. Some of my tee shorts are dead straight and land within few inches from the 150 marker on par 4s. Irons are going left and right. Constant tweaking and practicing make it better.

Moe was slightly autistic, give him a break lol. He clearly had very unique thoughts and dialogue. I've watched his videos and he'll say something like that, and then tell you the best he can in the next sentence.
The PGA shunned him because he was Canadian and eccentric. Couldn’t handle a Canadian winning.
