The Modeling Of Rev. W. Awdry: James & Edward
Ойын-сауық
While oftentimes focused on the Narrow Gauge part of things, the modeling of Wilbert Awdry has been something that always fascinated me. Today I thought it'd be great fun to focus on two of my favorite models of his; Edward and James!

Hornby did a honourable job with recreating Jame’s model from the reverent.
This was a great history lesson on Audrey's models and also it leaves a great Mark in modeling history
I hope this series continues, Awdrey's models have always been really interesting too me, great video
Little mistake with James MrkI note. The model was sent off to Stewart Reidpath during the late 40's early 50s. Reidpath went out of business during the 50's so getting spare motors for the models that have them fitted was quite tricky.
I think Edward is my favorite. It looks so original in my opinion. I like how he put so much effort in it.
In my opinion the Reverent Audrey’s models are the best models in my opinion

I think he made some of his model engines from model kits
i think awdry did a good job with these models they certainly look apart from the hornby counterparts. well done :)
I would love for you to continue this series, I'd like to see the history of more of Awdry's models, especially Henry.
I love how these models look so vintage
I do like this idea so far, especially to go more in depth on Awdry's personal train models he customized for his characters.
I really like his edward mode because it reminds me of my own edward modle
Trainboy casually giving me more thomas knowledge. Bro is a teacher

Thank you brother man 🙏✨
Great video! As someone who works on RWS-accurate models myself, I take a lot of inspiration from the Rev. Awdry's own models. It's nice to see someone finally talking about Awdry's models instead of just the TV props. Maybe you could do Thomas next? Awdry made 3 variations of him, so it'd be an interesting topic.
Great vid! I would love to see more videos on Awdry's models. Edward and James are actually some of my favorite characters! What a coincidence.
Trainboy I have information about how Edward ran his motor had failed meaning that he wasn’t a good runner and his motor was donated to one of the Thomas models and Edward is now a static display
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRAINBOY. I hope someday you return to new Jersey. I love watching your day out with thomas videos they make me laugh
I love Edward with the copper chimney. It suits him so well
I understand Awdry was interested in model engines from a early age as his Dad had a live steam model railway in the back garden
One thing I can't understand is why the majority of the engines all use a Fowler tender.
Great video. Would love to more about his personal models as to my knowledge no one has covered these models in-depth.
I love Awdry's models, I wish I could go see them. His creativity and infinite want to make these locomotives a reality has left an undeniable mark on pop culture. Big respect for the man. RIP.
When are you going to continue with this series? Your Rev. W. Awdry replicas are so cool :).
Fun fact:that Edward class was Made in the same factory as the Indonesian engine
I smell another series
The perfect video to watch while I relax in bed
I saw Edward when I visited the talyllyn railway last month :)

@@ItsTrainBoyit was splendid really, though it did have covid restrictions. me and my family went to the museum which had several lovely engines on display as well as some of Wilbert's models, I remember seeing Thomas, Edward, Boco and Bear in one display then Donald (no Douglas sadly) and the narrow gauge engines in another display. Then we went on the train which was being pulled by my man, Tom Rolt. The ride lasted around an hour and a half and then we stopped at the cafe to get some food, then we hopped back on the train back to the main station at the entrance. and on the way I very briefly saw Edward Thomas and sir haydn pulling their own trains. Overall it was great, would love to visit again some time in the future.

I heard the dirt above Rev's grave was disturbed. he's been rolling around too much, allegedly

He doesn't have a grave, he is ashes... I know this is a joke, but just saying...
What an amazing story…👍🏽
This is gonna be great help when I make my second awdry model replica as I have made his jinty Thomas
Any video that you make is good. I would love for you to make more videos like this. It's up to you though.
THANK YOU!
Yes please do more videos like this
On a side note, the LNER Shire class is also known as the D49 class
Yes, we like, please do again
Interesting video, I really liked hearing about Audrey's models
I hope to see more of the Rev.W.Audrey's original locos.
I had a James until he had an accident. I loved Hornby trains when I was younger
Another great video
LNER locos are always referred to by their numeric class, the Shires/Hunts being D49s. Edward's model being a Midland 2P, I don't know why hornby didn't use that as the basis.
One of the early people! Also I have a question, will this be a series of videos?
Interesting fact about the Furness Railway K2 Class. Some of them had Edward style side windows as early as 1913/1914. I recently found a picture of a K2 with a fitted experimental superheater and the side cab windows were Edward style. The superheater was fitted to the smokebox. 'Furness Railway k2 Class superheater' is how I found the pic while image searching on google. The superheater was called a Phoenix Smokebox Superheater and was fitted to two of the K2s in 1913, but removed from both in 1914. I've not been able to track down any LMS era K2 pictures, so all the photos of the K2s I've seen are pre-1923.
great video
From what I've heard, the Edward model at least currently does not work. Interesting note on another Awdry Model: There were two models of No. 8 Montague "Duck". He got his nickname because the first model really did waddle due to modifications. So, when in the Books and Model Series, When Duck is introducing himself and says people call him Duck because he supposedly waddles, that's actually a reference to the model.
I think the Hornby Edward is a Modified LNER Hunt Class with a SR Schools Class Tender.
I would love to see the other characters in this series. From some of the pictures I can see there are 3 Tobys...
You should make a video about the character bloomer
I feel Like Henry would be an interesting subject for this series, especially because, He was broken, Awdry was fixing him until his death, when Henry was lost.
This was entertaining to me
I really like his Thomas and James model. It's pretty cool that hornby make there James the same was the Rev w Audrey made his
Yay!
0:57 jinty Thomas confirmed
Perhaps the Ffarquar engines next? Or maybe Gordon and Henry?
Edward is based off of the Furness Railway k2 class steam locomotive.
Very good and informative video, would definitely like to see more. Though the Hornby Edward is a LNER D49. I don’t know where you got “LNER Shire class” from, but that’s just wrong.
I personally love Wilberts Gordon model. But all of his models are great.
To be honest Awdrys models are the beast
This sounds good
MOAR !! MOAR I SAYZ!!
railway series edward looks similar to molly the yellow engine
You probably should have metioned at the end that the original james model also survived at the awdry study, however it was repainted to be just a random engine and not james anymore
last time I checked, edwards original motor was harvested to be used on one of the thomas models, but this might be wrong so idrk
Good video trainboy I love awdrys models but I have a question for you what is your favourite type of train
Hello trainboy love you vids, also I wonder do you know about live steam models just wondering
love this video make more
Hey trainboy love your videos but quick question what are your thoughts on the adventure begins i think it was one of the best cgi specials ever made
Cool video
did Edward get new a fowler tender at some point like with James and Gordon and possibly Henry too?
tbh, the LNER D41 would have been a better option than anything else for recreating Edward, imo.
Can you cover his models that never ended up in the books/shows?
New series pls 🙏🏼
More please
Have you considered getting the kato oo9 Prince? I know I have.
Pls do percy
Yea
I always wondering were is his Gordon model
be fair my favourite awdry models as follows percy , spare percy, james, toby and Mavis
I want a tram engine model so bad
Cool man
Cool
Who built the TV show models?
that reminds me 😫 why does James have to be so hard to model if you wanted to make your own
Can you make A Video Called the true story of Thomas And The Breakdown Train
👍
I don’t know what to comment.
Edward
43 min in, 2.3 k views I think he is doing good
:)
How about bloomer?
Edwards looks way closer to a drummond then.anything else.

James Mk1 was a model of an Irish 5ft 3" gauge loco, quite funny really
It's great to see the spotlight turned on Awdry's models more, however it's a shame that there's quite a bit wrong with the information presented such as using a picture of William Middleton's illustrations when saying that Awdry was an artist (the illustrations he famously hated) to saying James was built as a Class 27 and rebuilt into a Class 28, when actually he was built as a Class 28 with the pony truck and larger driving wheels from the very beginning. I can see that pretty much all of your information has been taken from the Real Lives of Thomas site, which is an amazing resource sure - but is now very outdated and has been proven wrong on information over the years, such as James Mk1 being re-chassied in the 1980s, when it was actually in the 1950s.

Pin this or AEG Thomas will eat the Class 40 model.
I'm not sure about how well the Edward model ran because I think it rolled. I'll see myself out.
