There's a beautiful chord called the Minor 4th that has been popularized by a certain band called The Beatles. It is now used everywhere in pop music.
In this lesson, I show you how you can use the minor 4th chord in your progression:
- Right after the root chord;
- By introducing the Major 4th first;
- Inside of other progressions.
I also show you some songs that use that chord!
If you like the lesson, leave a big thumbs up :) see you next week with a new lesson!

    Ladyfingers by herb Albert has been circulating through tik tok, and during throughout almost the entire thing, it's looping I-IV-iv. That's been my favorite progression ever since I knew what it was, and this is the first song that I've heard use it more than once or twice.

    I was just thinking today that more people should teach about stuff like this, thanks for reading my mind! Have you seen the movie rudderless? One of my favorite songs is "sing along". The chorus is in C, but the verse alternates between E and Am (with resolutions to G/F). I've always wondered how those chords were determined and how I could incorporate stuff like that into writing (obviously it works, but I'm not exactly sure why). Thoughts?

    I have never heard of it, but from what I'm hearing, we could analyse this in 2 ways: 1 - The E - Am is a progression of a minor 4th in E major (as studied in this video). Then, the chorus has a key change to C major. So basically, verses = E Major key, chorus = C Major key. 2 - The E chord serves a dominant function to attract the Am chord (which is super common in minor modes: to introduce a dominant chord on the fifth degree instead of a minor on the fifth degree, to create more tension and release into the harmony). In this case, the key of the verse would be A minor. And the chorus is in C Major, which is a relative key to Am minor (they share all the same notes). The second analysis makes a lot more sense to me, because the verses and chorus share the same relative key, and E is the only outside chord to both keys. Changing from keys from E major to C major implies a very distant key change (from no sharp to 4 sharps) which we don't feel that much in the harmony and melody. These are 2 ways to analyse the piece. This is a bit more advanced for a single KZread lesson, but I cover a lot of this ground in my online school (relative minor, dominant function in a minor context, etc). You should check it out when I'm going to reopen it in 10 days! Peace :)
