    I'm recently fascinated by going back to the beginning of channels & watching my way to the present. Here in 2021 my cat suddenly came out of hiding somewhere cozy to sit and stare at Ryan as he spoke...and just as I was about finished typing she jumped onto the entertainment center to be in front of the TV. I think she likes your voice Ryan :)

    I feel that minimalism is great for the person. Although our economy does rely on consumption. Minimalists and things like collaborative consumption will rock our system. This is something some of us should keep an eye on.

    great talk. I was kinds focus into minimalism when I was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. I had a job were I could afford most everything I wanted. but my cancer had me think about what was important to me and my life. I first started with my clothing. Even though I worn scrub at work I realized I worn the same about the same clothing on off time. I have about 50 to 75 items in my closet in all. I can simplify my life but my husband is a collector. How do I help him to get rid of this stuff that is just collect dust?

    Joanne Atkinson I truly hope that this message will be read by you. I also had an epithany due to a medical crisis. A case of septic and then in a coma with a NDE to top it off. I have been a collector of stuff my entire life. I have been the family closet/garage that whole time. After my time in hospital, I realised that I didn't need nor want all that junk. I am now giving or selling all of it. It has been a long road. Toys didn't bring me happiness while on a ventilator. The only really important item in life is those you share it with.

Or the jackknife he carried for 70 years ? What about that first issue playboy magazine ? ( worth hundreds)

    No of course not, if you like those things keep them this is just to say look at the things in your life and ask yourself is this important to me? Do I find joy or value in this item? If the answer is no then get rid of it if the answer is yes keep it :D hope this helps!!!

    Although I like the concept, and do have respect for the change these guys are trying to make to world, I should say the speech and the following Q&A were so shallow and mostly looked like show up, other than anything deep connecting the audience to the soul of minimalism.

  • @taniaohman9030

    All that said, West wind, i've seen plastic pushed on the world while hearing people say it will be bad for our environment. I've heard charge now pay later pushed on the world while hearing save your money for what you want you will appreciate it more. This is revolutionary. What they are talking about can only be for the betterment of life. Which a lot of people have grown up with the pushing of beliefs in ways that were not beneficial to life but only padding someone's wallet. If these gentlemen make money speaking true words to better life than I say more power to them! Gives them more time to spread the word for a minimalistic revolution wouldn't you say? No way, is this unrealistic.

  • @emma13254
    @emma132549 жыл бұрын

    I get that consumerism didn't make them happy, and minimalism is contributing to their happiness. So it seems to be their new "lifestyle choice." I listened to the entire opening remarks, and there was not a breath about living in harmony with the environment or all those exploited by our economic system. They still sound just like affluent white dudes, who can "choose" to have less when most people don't have a choice-and then market this choice into a brand. Nothing revolutionary here.

  • @Chaoskind386

    'Cos that's not what it's all about. Watch here: 1:32:32 And also, maybe nothing big-scale revolutionary but sometimes it's the small things that will make the difference. It's all just part of one big wave of change anyway, so just let everyone do it their way. If you want to fight inequality and our economic system on a global scale, more power to you! But I believe these guys are also making a big, positive difference in many people's lives and they are promoting a way of conscious living that CAN only lead to a better world. So don't be so negative because they are not promoting the agenda you would like them to. Let everyone play their own role and you go play yours. Love and peace.

  • @Chaoskind386

    @Chaoskind386

    And also, you can see what they are doing as: "and then market this choice into a brand." or as "they have found a way to support themselves financially, doing and talking about what they love" (but then you'll probably get jealous. I know I do.) Just open your heart and your mind and you'll see that these guys are for real and they are changing the world in the best way they know how. So instead of going around picking on other people who are "not perfect enough", just go and start doing what YOU think needs to be said and done. Don't wait for other people, who obviously have different objectives, to fulfill your dreams and goals. Only you can do that.

  • @Chaoskind386

    One more thing: If you don't see consumerism at the heart of our economic system, as the tool and weapon to enslave people in every way possible, you haven't really understood a big part of the problem. And for this problem, they ARE offering a very revolutionary solution, at least that's what I think.

    What's wrong with being white, a man and affluent? You know, a lot of poor people want to be more affluent. Are you going to be upset with them once they reach that goal? You also seem to think that there is a limit to the abundance of food and happiness and all other good things... maybe that's a premiss you could question?

  • @emma13254

    @emma13254

    Erika, the earth has provided us with vast and magical abundance, which is being pillaged and hoarded by a small number of elites. As a westerner who is higher up the economic hierarchy than most of the world's population, it is my obligation to understand how the system operates. One half of the world is in poverty. That is the major "premise" we should question.
