    Moving yes, but going backwards CONSTANTLY will not win you decisions in muay thai unless you deciceivly destroyed your opponent. It's how muay thai is scored and has always been scored. It's not in the mauy thai spirit to move back like that. I started training muay thai when I was 13 and my brother trained snd fought in Thailand for years. It's how it's scored, aggression is part of the spott

    This may have been a sensible strategy from Goncalves, but no one ever wins a Muay Thai decision by going backwards that much. Muay Thai is about staying tight and seeing who is the strongest and when in doubt, judges will always reward the aggressor. Agree or not, that is how the sport is judged and has been forever.

    Yep totally agree. I don’t think the game plan was totally wrong, he just needed to circle smaller, so he could counter more effectively. Every good fighter circles but when you circle so wide it can be misconstrued as running away. Muay Thai is scored so heavily on aggression and balance when fighting that Walter needed to do more to dethrone such a dominant champion.

The most annoying part of this fight is the moment any sort of fight/exchange that goes beyond Goncalves’ counter attack attempts happen - he either sits on the ground, falls on purpose, ducks and turns around into the fetal position, or grabs onto Rodtang to waste time and attempt an illegal throw. @@jameshughes4501 Pfft haha You're beyond amusing and highly uneducated ignorant casual. Doesn't matter if it's Thailand or it's not Thai Stadium Muay Thai. Running in Muay Thai is looked down upon and it will not score points or look good at the judges regardless where the fight is located unless it's France or USA since the judges are cross eye in both countries and they do not the rules or the point system to properly score a Muay Thai fight. Running away in Muay Thai will help yourself to losing a fight. You do not ever run away in Muay Thai if you want to win a fight and persuade the judges to your favor that you are not timid to engage. Look at the rules and point system in Muay Thai in Stadiums and One Championship before you write ignorant comments.

    The more you learn about combat sports, the more you begin to appreciate excellent displays of offense *and* defense. One of the aspects of attacking is ring generalship. If Rodtang had moved to cut off Goncalvez instead of chasing after him in a straight line, Goncalvez wouldn't have been able to keep circling out and away. By continually catching Rodtang's kicks and countering off them, Goncalvez was able to take away one of Rodtang's primary tools he uses to stop opponents from circling out. This left Rodtang more dependant on his hooks and his footwork when he wanted to stop Goncalvez from circling out, but Goncalvez had superior footwork and managed distance well. Instead of being frustrated, try and take lessons from both fighters and apply them to your own sparring sessions. Nobody ever bettered themselves by criticizing others.

    lol, the Question mark kick has nothing to do with Brazil, so certainly shouldn't be called 'The Brazilian kick'. That's like claiming Tea drinking started in England. Just because they use it doesn't mean they can claim it. It's a Karate kick, so, is a Japanese kick :)

  • @skamarfire

    @skamarfire

    Nobody is claiming it bro... it's just part of the history of K1, this kick was known as the main weapon of Glauber Feitosa and Francisco Filho... it was poppularized by them, as they had Karate and capoeira background, so when brazilians do the kick it looks smoother and more effective... I think football is also a contribuiting factor
