    On Evangeline, there is also a Romanian poem by Mihai Eminescu, called “Luceafărul”, which is about a princess who falls in love with a star, but it has quite the sad ending, though I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you if you you want to read it.

    Can I make a suggestion for Disney Explained? How about Roger Rabbit? It would most likely be a VERY messed up origin, because the original book, Who Censored Roger Rabbit, is almost completely different from the film. The movie is dark, but the book is downright cynical and mean spirited. Almost every single character is a complete a-hole (yes, even Roger).

    But he is referring to the actual origin of the story. Not who Tiana is based on. It doesn’t make sense to talk about her inspiration because it has nothing to do with talking about the original fairytale and the different messed up versions. Why would he talk about who was her inspiration? That is the whole point of Messed Up Origins. It talks about these adaptations and the original stories they are based on. Princess and the Frog/Frog Prince(whatever people want to go by) is a fairytale. The Disney movie is based off of that. So it’s not a new story. Just saying.

  • @sarahprince2412

    @sarahprince2412

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@jamieyoung9206 No it doesn’t make sense because Jon talks about messed up origins of these fairytales that we see in movies, tv shows, etc. Who Tiana’s character was inspired by has NOTHING to do with talking about the messed up origins of the fairytale. The original fairytale isn’t based on a black character btw. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Disney did this movie because the black community was bitching and whining about how there is no representation or that all their movies only had white princesses which was total bullshit. Hello, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Kiva, hell Nala(even though she was in animal form) came out way before Princess and the Frog and were/are considered princesses and they are NOT white. We didn’t have a problem with it either. So they have no say to gripe about how there was no representation of nonwhite princesses. Also, hate to break it to people but most of these fairytales that Disney took from for their movies are from WHITE European countries and cultures so it makes sense that the princesses would be white. Also also, what the black community needs to understand is that the majority of people here in the states are WHITE people so it makes sense that there are going to be more white representation when it comes to the media and in the entertainment industry. That’s just a fact. If I went to different countries is Africa then it would be expected to see more black representation than white people in their media and entertainment industry. Forced representation is a detriment to everyone. You don’t FORCE representation just because people bitch and whine about it. It only isolates people and can make them mad too because you are forcing race into everything. It also means that people want to be seen because of their color. If the majority of a country is one race then don’t complain that you see more of that race. Just saying. Wasn’t trying to make this long but I could give 2 shits who Tiana’s character was based on because this video is referring to the ORIGINAL messed up fairytale of the movie AND the movie took a WHITE character and turned her black just for the sake of pleasing the black community who were bitching and whining. I would have preferred Disney to do an ORIGINAL story based on African fairytales(there are plenty I’m sure) instead of taking a WHITE fairytale that is clearly European inspired and making the character black. That’s what annoyed me with the movie. They were just pandering to the black community to appease them. And NO, my statement doesn’t mean I’m racist for pointing out the truth or a Karen. Wanted to get that out there before you come at me.

  • @sarahprince2412

    @sarahprince2412

    2 жыл бұрын

    Also, I’m not trying to be mean but why is it you guys always have to bring up your own race when making comments? YOU guys are a detriment to yourselves when you constantly bring up your own race. To me it says that you ONLY want to be seen because of your skin color. Didn’t you guys learn anything from Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech? He said to be judged based on content of character and NOT on skin color but that is all the majority of the black community wants to be seen by. Then if there is a black person who refuses to play up the stereotypes or is a Republican/Conservative then they are called an Uncle Tom by YOUR own people because you guys think they aren’t black enough or they are traitors(which they aren’t btw). I’m just saying that when you guys make comments there’s no need to bring your own race saying my fellow black this or black that. Just say that you are a Jon Solo fan. White people don’t say they are fellow white Jon Solo fans. Asians don’t say Asian Jon Solo fans. So please, for the love of God, STOP bringing your race into comments. It has nothing to do with well you were oppressed as you people would say. Believe it or not, you guys are NOT oppressed. YOU guys have NEVER been enslaved. Slavery ended over 100 years ago so you guys never went through that. What IS happening is that you guys are being brainwashed by the Liberals into believing that you are being held down when in reality you aren’t. You are being brainwashed into thinking that you face racism and oppression. Statistically speaking, there is more black on black crime than white on black crime(that includes white cops). Also, the majority of problems that many of these people that are shown in the media face are because THEY caused the issues in the first place. Has nothing to do with race. Just saying. Wasn’t trying to go off topic but it’s time for you guys to stop making everything a race issue, bring your race into comments or say how everyone is out to get you. Everyone has faced oppression, been enslaved, faced bigotry and racism at one point. That includes white people. Time for you guys to move on already.

    @@sarahprince2412 Hello Sarah I’m going to keep this short and sweet because I don’t like to argue with people who have clearly never read a book or left the small town they live in but the truth of the matter is Tiana’s story (the driving force behind the movie) was 1:Tiana getting her restaurant 2: Tiana’s BLACK POOR BACKGROUND and 3: Prince Naveen overcoming his entitlement (Which had nothing to do with what I’m speaking on but it’s a major part of the film). I’m sorry that your neanderthal brain couldn’t understand a concept so complex as a story being contrived of multiple inspirations but it is possible and it is very true. The fact that it is widely acknowledged that both Pocahontas and Mulan are POC characters with their inspiration also coming from historical figures while the historical figure that inspired Tiana isn’t given any light doesn’t give the story justice. Also, until you get a sociological degree with a focus on Black issues you have NO business telling me ANYTHING about what we go through and how to fix it. I mean this with every once of disrespect I can muster, Have a blessed day.❤️

    There was a really strange version of the Frog Prince by Jim Henson, I think from the 70's. It was when he was starting on the Muppets and might have been the first appearance of Kermit, Robin, and Sweetums but don't quote me on that. That one started off similarly but took a few unusual turns. It begins with the whole situation involving the Princess making a deal with the frog (played by Robin) for her ball except... she actually tries to keep her promise, only to be hindered by the same witch who cursed the frog. Also the witch put a curse on the Princess so she can only speak in anagrams, and is plotting a coup. It's a lot of fun if you get the chance.

    @@moondivine2288 Because she was the first official black princess but she's a frog for majority of the movie. Disney has a history of turning POC into some sort of creature and not turning them back into the end. Also let's be honest, her falling in love with an actual frog is just nasty. It's one thing if she saw him as a human first but she literally fell for him as a frog which is weird and still makes her a furry because she knows she's a human but doesn't 100% know he isn't just a talking frog. At least the prince saw her BEFORE she turned into a frog so it's not as nasty

    To me the moral of the Disney version is very clear: it’s ok to have wishes and dreams but a star in the sky is not gonna make them come true, effort and resilience will. Tiana promised never to kiss a from in exchange for wealth and Ana as she broke that promise to herself and her father she got turned in to a frog until she could learn that lesson. Once she discovered that love was more important than wealth and got married regardless of the reward of being a princess, she got her wish.

    Perhaps, the "princess" is the average person and the "frog prince" is something they want but it requires "bad things" (like kissing the frog or throwing it against the wall, etc.) and the "king" is they conscience (like Jimmy Cricket) to help us do the right thing to get the reward. Example: the average person wants to be educated. Some bad things are taking classes that don't have anything to do with the degree. Our conscience is there helping us succeed with the bad things and getting the degree.

    The French expelled from Acadia ended up in many places. In the 13 colonies it was limited to those that would accept Catholics...which wasn't many, maybe just the Carolinas and Rhode Island. Many of the Acadians ended up in what is now Louisiana, which is why the southern part of it is (still) called Acadiana, and where the term Cajun comes from. (There are also places there named Evangeline, after the poem.) Fyi, for those outside the US, I am Cajun but grew up in the northeast, and no, we learned pretty much squat about all this in school, so I don't blame Jon for getting some of the facts wrong.
