Nice! For me, the quartz movement isn't an issue. After all, the Cartier Tank & certain Longines DolceVitas have quartz movements & are great wee watches. That blue model would look great on a suede dark grey strap & the red one would suit a black alligator strap......in my opinion.

Thanks for the video on these. I think you're the very first. I really like these from the moment I saw them a while back. I jumped on the preorder price as soon as they opened about a week ago. I think the price is fair for the design and quality. Sure, an automatic movement would have been nicer. BUT, I am also not a dress watch guy and for a timepiece I may find myself not reaching as often as my main tool watch variety in my watch collection, I think it makes sense to not spend all that much $$. So, the Swiss quartz movement inside is perfectly fine. And, I'm glad the case back is screwed down with 4 screws and not a dreaded snap case back. Will make battery changes much easier. Although I am not a dress watch guy, I have found the need to add one to my watch collection for those rare occasions I would have liked to have one but it was absent in the collection. My dream watch is a JLC Reverso 1931 Tribute Small Seconds with the red dial. For me, I always imagine a square/rectangular watch to be very fitting with a red dial. But, I am nowhere in the ballpark to play and spend around $9k-$11k for one. And, if I'm being honest with myself, unless the JLC Reverso is a duo face of some sort, having the plain back reverse side is a bit of a gimmick. Nothing to really see on the reverse side of the dial and pretty much the dial side will be the only side I'd ever really look at and rarely flip to see the back. Sure, you may save the front crystal from taking damage and cracking. But, I can't imagine that a severe enough impact that would damage the front of the watch is alternatively applied to the case back would be good for the movement within either. Thus, this Memoir fits the very budget friendly bill. And, of course, I pre-ordered the red dial version.

Very nice, I didn't expect this kind of watch from Second Hour. "Australia" on the bottom of the dial is a very nice touch. I would imagine fitting a mechanical movement into a curved case like this wouldn't be easy and probably lead to a much thicker watch case altogether.

Nice and a suitable model for someone only having occasional use of a dress watch. Ideally, they could have done without the seconds hand, which reveals the quartz movement and is not needed for a dressier small timepiece.

Hello Pete. I'm not a dress watch guy, but I must admit this is a lovely watch. I love the Cartier, like styling and overall quality. The Swiss quartz movement makes it an ideal grab and go to the office (or home office as I work mostly from home 😂). Value for money is there, in my opinion, particularly at the presale price. Right off the bat, I discarded this because it is quartz. Sure, we all know the arguments for and against, but it is also good to have limits and stick to principles when collecting in such a wide marketplace. But there is absolutely something special about the Memoir: it seems to have nailed the design. That certainly applies to the dial, where the different textural finished and subtly layered depth gives us so much more than virtually any competitor, especially at the price. Importantly, it also applies to the proportions and thickness, which I have come to consider a must for a (close-to-tank) rectangular-shaped watch. And ultimately it applies to the case, although frankly, there is little going on, but thanks to those perfect proportions that is also not necessary. There is no thickness to mask, and we need a simple elevating frame to accentuate the elegant dial further. The brushed sides further reduce the visual thickness and emphasise the transition and the lovely curve. Furthermore, we're treated to an absolutely charming decoration on the back, and ultimately the whole design language plays nicely with the brand's logo on the crown (and it was a wise decision not to put this additional pattern on the dial as well). Two of the crucial design decisions leading to such an attractive watch are: 1. not reinventing the wheel but running with the art deco (like so many others, I know, but not equally successfully); 2. going with a small seconds. The small seconds is, in my view, the best use of the dial real estate a rectangular watch offers, and actually we're far less spoilt for choice with this criterium. While I'm sure the JLC operates on a higher level, at face value the dial is less visually compelling. Albert Villa has clearly designed a small seconds gold and black watch that I cannot retrieve on their website. Perhaps the closest, like for like, is the Hamilton Boulton small seconds quartz L (confusingly measured 27.3X31.1, so judging visually probably excluding the lug length?), which I also consider a favourite deserving of a mechanical movement and probably even more of a daily-wearer. I think the Boulton's case makes even more of an asset of the curve, but than it curves from the dial out already (not truly rectangular, more towards tonneau). Among Longines mini dolce vita's for women there is a lovely small seconds dial (circle in a circle), which is deserving of a size up for larger wrists, I think (otherwise in this line, my vote goes to the sector, but ultimately I prefer that style round). And then we have some micros entering the rectangular space like De Guzman, Soner, and Benjamin James, none of which do small seconds, I think, and none of which do this better than this Memoir nor e.g. the rather attractive Oris Rectangular, which has arguably the best date implementation substituting the small seconds. So, after all that analysis, I actually left am half-tempted. At this thickness (and not something to sacrifice!) I guess the only mechanical option would have been manual. Not my preference, but this, I think would be such a distinctly dressy piece that this would be excusable and may not have deterred me (even if a relatively cheap Chinese movement). Unfortunately, except for being slim, this Ronda movement is nothing special. 25 month standard battery life (34 month extended) is not enough to make an argument against any mechanical. Concluding, I think I should stick to my guns, especially recognising the current size of my collection and the fact that even at 350USD (and thus e.g. half the Hamilton, incl. VAT), add import costs and this is far from a truly affordable quartz watch. Is it worth it for absolutely great and cleverly detailed design at this diminutive thinness? Yes, for the rightly motivated customer or collector, certainly. Add the surface hardening (Second Hour's is not a coating?) is such a welcome addition for a smart occasion-watch. Having seen it on the wrist of Caseback Tim, the only other thing I might do differently is the colour-matched straps. It presents well, but makes it less formal and versatile. The red on Tim's brown strap really improved in my opinion, and I wonder if this may apply to others. For now, my favourite colours are the deep blue or perhaps the formal versatility of the black for this reason. I'd love to see the green, if not all other colours on other straps.

Ok so after this comment I looked up the Lorier Zephyr. I get what you are saying since it has a Miyota 9000 series automatic movement and is 8mm thick for about $100 more however the Tonneau shape by its nature makes the watch LOOK bigger (to be fair I have no idea how it wears). That said I like the dial and colors of this Second Hour much better and although both are Art Deco styling this is closer to the Tank whereas the Lorier is a Tonneau (barrel) shape. I already have a Seiko SUP880 tank that is quartz but has no second hour and is EXTREMELY close in design to the Cartier Tank - down to the cabochon crown. Both the Second Hour and Lorier could use some tweeks in my opinion. Maybe offer a 9000 series movement of the Second Hour for $100 more ... or go mecha-quartz and eliminate the ticks of the second hand - which might bring the price down ... or offer all three: Swiss Ronda, Seiko Mecha-quartz and Miyota Automatic?

@karlsenula9495 I disagree with ya on a few point. The dial is bar better and more interesting in the lorier. And you're looking at an early price rpoce second hour... the actual price will ve the same as the lorier. And I actually own the watch. I know how it wears. Just as thin, with an auto movement. 2nd hour is very overpriced and their branding isn't as nice either. Sorry but for the price...lorier is FAR better.
