The Mechanical Apple Watch

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

It may look like it, but this is not a Jony Ive design. If Apple were to make its own mechanical watch, it would undoubtedly look a little something like this, the Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope. But what is Junghans, who is Max Bill and why did they make a Chronoscope?

I have owned the Junghans Max Bill time-only automatic version (no chronograph) for about 6 years now, and it's still beautiful. Not the best in terms of performance or finishing of course (I only paid $430 USD for it second-hand), but the DESIGN is second to none. It is so crisp and pure ... I just love to stare at it. Just an amazingly well designed watch. I've got mine last year and it is simply stunning. Just the simplicity of it makes it something special. I've got the "normal" version without the day function and a polished case instead of the PVD case as shown. In my opinion, the polished version is the better version of the Max Bill Chronoscope range. It looks great both on a leather strap or on a Milanese strap. Hate the term but it really is a strap monster. The case back is a bit prone to scratching so a butterfly clasp is almost mandatory and compliments the watch as well.

  • @JakobHelm

I disagree regarding the straps. Imho only very simple straps fit this watch. Just plain leather straps without patterns or very visible seams. No nato etc. "A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."

You have to be mindful that when you choose sapphire crystal it can alter and compromise the dome effect. But as far as i know when sapphire breaks it shatters completely instead of getting a crack. So it is not invisible. It is relatively scratch proof. but you have to weight durability vs aesthetic. I love dome effect. It is gorgeous. IF sapphire alters the dome effect, I'll rather go for the aesthetics of this beautiful watch.

  • @ludeknovotny3967

@@raypatson8775 It's always more likely to scratch the crystal than shatter it to the point of getting a crack. Not to mention the Junghans is using some sort of protection layer so it's harder to scratch it, but if you scratch it, you cannot polish it even though the crystal is plastic. And that is a huge problem for me. I would rather have a sapphire glass or just a plastic without any layer over the top.

The dial is stripped back and minimal. So it's easy to read, even with day, month, day of the month and moon phase as complications. Nomos is considered more 'premium' but in terms of design, I feel they're a bit too overly simplistic often unless you get one with the weird complications like the Autobahn line or something else. This is a chronoscope watch for around 2K USD which is a really good deal. Similar Nomos would be twice the price. If it is your first watch, I'd recommend this over the Nomos. Again Nomos is a great brand but just a bit more pricy.

@@flyingphotography5770 no that’s not what I meant. I like the look of the watch but if you look at the clip again you will see the day and date change multiple times.

I do like this watch. I'd say if Apple really did make a mechanical watch they'd probably take minimalism to the next level. That would mean removing all numbers from the face apart from the ones actually representing something - if it's 10 past 10, theres no need for the other digits to hang around. Digital watches (well, digital clocks) have been around for a very long time. I wish there were more of them. It's one of the reasons i find A Lange & Sohne's Zeitwerk appealing. Now imagine that but with more clean minimalism.

I know this will draw alot of ire...but I want to see a video on the Alpha homage "Chronograph" Minute timer. I know it's an homage, but it's a Mechanical "Chronograph" for under $300...I just want to see your take on it.

I own a lot of watches from cheaper pieces from the likes of Hamilton to some expensive pieces like Omega and Rolex. I also own this exact watch. Guess which one gets the most attention by others when I wear it? Literally anytime I wear this, I get at least 1 person ask what it is because it is literally so eye-catching. I'd say it is easily the best looking dress watch in the market. I also own their Meister Pilot watch (look it up) which is my other favorite design for large watches. Junghans as a company punches way above its weight. You won't find such attention to detail in watches even 2x their prices.
