The Mechanical Apple Watch
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
It may look like it, but this is not a Jony Ive design. If Apple were to make its own mechanical watch, it would undoubtedly look a little something like this, the Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope. But what is Junghans, who is Max Bill and why did they make a Chronoscope?

Again this is why you're my favorite watch channel. As a trained Industrial Designer since the mid 1970s, I love Bauhaus, Junghans as a brand and the Max Bill line of watches. Thank you for featuring Junghans... Bravo on another great video.
My wife is starting to catch on to my closeted watch fascination. She asked, what are you watching? I realized, that's exactly what I'm doing, watch-ing.

Surprisingly rough and poor quality execution in these closeups.. the rough metal and paint edges on the hub of the hands looks like a gardening implement. The inconsistent and hairy paint finishes …
Nice to see Watchfinder return to this format of videos. I love the podcast style. But this is why we come to this channel.
I have owned the Junghans Max Bill time-only automatic version (no chronograph) for about 6 years now, and it's still beautiful. Not the best in terms of performance or finishing of course (I only paid $430 USD for it second-hand), but the DESIGN is second to none. It is so crisp and pure ... I just love to stare at it. I especially love the way that number 4 is portrayed. Pure Bauhaus!

Just an amazingly well designed watch. I've got mine last year and it is simply stunning. Just the simplicity of it makes it something special. I've got the "normal" version without the day function and a polished case instead of the PVD case as shown. In my opinion, the polished version is the better version of the Max Bill Chronoscope range. It looks great both on a leather strap or on a Milanese strap. Hate the term but it really is a strap monster. The case back is a bit prone to scratching so a butterfly clasp is almost mandatory and compliments the watch as well.
@JakobHelm

I disagree regarding the straps. Imho only very simple straps fit this watch. Just plain leather straps without patterns or very visible seams. No nato etc. "A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
Just superb! Thank you for bringing out Junghans. You are absolutely the best!
Thank you for this channel... stunning like always (and story and the video) !
One for the records really .. this video does a great job of explaining design , engineering and existence , and philosophy so elegantly and eloquently , like some form of divinity inspired it , including bauhaus and the concepts behind , so serene that it provides serenity . Great job talking hands , great job indeed

You have to be mindful that when you choose sapphire crystal it can alter and compromise the dome effect. But as far as i know when sapphire breaks it shatters completely instead of getting a crack. So it is not invisible. It is relatively scratch proof. but you have to weight durability vs aesthetic. I love dome effect. It is gorgeous. IF sapphire alters the dome effect, I'll rather go for the aesthetics of this beautiful watch.
@ludeknovotny3967
2 жыл бұрын
@@raypatson8775 It's always more likely to scratch the crystal than shatter it to the point of getting a crack. Not to mention the Junghans is using some sort of protection layer so it's harder to scratch it, but if you scratch it, you cannot polish it even though the crystal is plastic. And that is a huge problem for me. I would rather have a sapphire glass or just a plastic without any layer over the top.

The difference between a Junghans watch and an Apple watch? In 5-6 years, the Junghans will still be up-to-date and operational. During that time the Apple Watch will have seen several new versions and may or may not still have its original functionality.

Not to disparage Junghans in anyway, but in those 5-6 years, I will be able to use voice assistant, calculator, weather watch, count down timer, stopwatch, and a lot more on an Apple Watch. It's a comparison of Apple and Orange, just don't look down on any one of those.

Glad to see Junghans here on this channel !
Max Bill was a student of the Bauhaus design school which fundamentally influenced his later designs. Jonathan Ive is a big fan of the Bauhaus school and its minimalist principles. That’s why we find so many similarities in the design languages between the works of Max Bill and modern Apple Design.

@@TheDonCucaracho that’s such a wonderful choice! I love the Braun design and especially their watches. Only flaw is their QC nowadays, often the seconds hand does not alight well with the markers as it was with my BN0024 but it’s a bit hit or miss. But if you get a model that you’re satisfied with I really think you can’t go wrong. German brand and that design can easily set you back 10-100 times that money :)
Junghans Max Bill is my first mechanical watch I bought more than 10 years ago and it is beautiful! I prefer the plain three hand with date version..
That was the best intro ever lmao. What is Junghans, who is Max Bill and why did they make a chronoscope? Pure gold
Hi it be nice to see you doing video about Gshock like the GWM5610-1
Although the Max Bill gets a lot of the love for Junghans, I myself have the Meister Calendar. Similar to the Max Bill, it's 40mm and all dial with a domed acrylic glass. The dial is stripped back and minimal. So it's easy to read, even with day, month, day of the month and moon phase as complications. It's a little older in design than the Max Bill, but is similarly elegant.
Love your voice and your humour!
This is the most beautiful watch I've ever seen
Great video on a very important watch. These designs are extraordinary: timeless time pieces. When a design has so few details, each detail must be exceptionally well judged. BTW, on some views, the day seems misaligned on this watch.
I love their design and i had one in the past. They are great but the finish matches the price range and i mean that in both the good and the bad way.
Easy to look at and very legible.

Nomos is considered more 'premium' but in terms of design, I feel they're a bit too overly simplistic often unless you get one with the weird complications like the Autobahn line or something else. This is a chronoscope watch for around 2K USD which is a really good deal. Similar Nomos would be twice the price. If it is your first watch, I'd recommend this over the Nomos. Again Nomos is a great brand but just a bit more pricy.

This was fantastic. Informative, creative, and great camera work. Thank you.
I do like this watch. I'd say if Apple really did make a mechanical watch they'd probably take minimalism to the next level. That would mean removing all numbers from the face apart from the ones actually representing something - if it's 10 past 10, theres no need for the other digits to hang around. Digital watches (well, digital clocks) have been around for a very long time. I wish there were more of them. It's one of the reasons i find A Lange & Sohne's Zeitwerk appealing. Now imagine that but with more clean minimalism.
I know this will draw alot of ire...but I want to see a video on the Alpha homage "Chronograph" Minute timer. I know it's an homage, but it's a Mechanical "Chronograph" for under $300...I just want to see your take on it.
Sorry for my lack of knowledge but how would sapphire ruin the lines of the watch as you pointed out at 9:15? Tnks.
