But there's a very good reason why so many none comic book fans embraced the MCU, and was tepid towards, or outright despised the DCEU. it's also why this video is and so many other clueless attempts to discuss the MCU's villain problem is laughable. It fans had such a problem with the MCU's villains, they would have stopped supporting their films, a decade ago, but guess what? their latest film Guardians of Galaxy 3, made over 800 million, and is one of the years highest grossing films. In fact the majority of Marvel's films are both critical and commercially successful. Including some of those films, where they "dropped the ball" but still made a billion or close to it. The heroes and their numerous interpersonal conflicts is what built the MCU, and time again the audience rewarded them for it.

In my experience a good villain should always overshadow the hero until the hero triumphs. There’s no reason why the hero should succeed in their first or second encounter. They should be knocked down in some cases further back than where they started. The Wolf in Puss in Boots literally kicks his ass, embarrasses him into retirement, and then gives him panic attacks throughout the film and then when Puss finally prevails it gets a huge rise from the audience. Not to mention the wolf has a memorable design and an unforgettable performance.

I think that Endgame Thanos is honestly less of an inconsistent portrayal, and more of a mask-off sort of portrayal. Behind all of his self-sacrificial rhetoric and justifications for his actions, what he really wanted was to be proven right. To show everyone that his way works and that he knew what was best all along. His actions aren't noble, they're an extension of his ego. When he's proven to be wrong, when his actions are shown to negatively impact the universe, he can't accept it and doubles down. If the universe won't recognize that he was right all along, then he'll create a reality where it will be so.

To defend Endgame Thanos, the journey to acquire the infinity stones made him the way he was in IW while the one in Endgame was three years younger and saw not only Earth stopping his first assault but actually killing him in the future. I have nothing against the MCU, but it continues to run itself into the ground and it really sucks because now it's too late to actually introduce iconic or obscure characters. I think it would be a fresh start where they can plan out ways to introduce certain characters and maybe even be slightly more accurate (like making Hank Pym currently Ant-Man). The idea was interesting : Wanda Maximoff riddled with devastation and grief after having to sacrifice the love of her life in vain to try to save the world, and being in the unique position of not getting it back years later like many others on had the chance to do so and doing her best to try to accept it, they made her character going through the 5 stages of grief until the phase of the acceptance. This phase is represented by the fact that when she realize that Westview's inhabitants were suffering, she put an end to it. Yea let me say that again, WHEN WANDA REALIZED THAT SHE WAS HURTING PEOPLE, SHE PUT AN END TO HER SPELL ON WESTVIEW. Wanda gave up her dream, her perfect life, the only time she was able to reach a bit of happiness and everything she wanted because she knew the consequences of forcing it to become reality and she KNEW that it was the right thing to do. She knew that damage had been done and she tried to fix it. How ? She isolated herself in the middle of woods because she understood that she was a danger for those around her and she wanted to learn how to control her magic so something like Westview never happen again. The problem comes from Multiverse of Madness and it’s awful writing. Why ? Because the movie literally acts like WandaVision never happened by just turning her into psychotic mass murderer for no reason which not only invalidate all of her character growth, and also ruins WandaVision in the process by making it pointless, but also but also by literally giving right to a dude like TYLER HAYWARD ( yea the one who leads the Sword and the one who also had no problem exploiting Vision and violating his integrity and his rights by dehumanizing him and literally treating him like a thing and who behind his supposedly desire to save Westview, have overall a bit more questionable motivations inside ). This movie ruined all of the complexity that her character originally had by turning her into a irredeemable evil crazy bitch for nothing. I’m not against Wanda being turned into a villain because there were a lot of times when she was a villain in the comics and she was great but if it’s really what you want, just do it well.

I agree with you for the most part I feel like you misunderstood T'Challa and Killmonger. They represent MLK and Malcom X at their most extremes. MLK's pacifism to the point of inaction being T'Challa and Malcom X's more active approach to the point of terrorism in Killmonger. Black Silence and Black Rage. Both are wrong. You can't ignore your brothers and sisters who are in need simply because you aren't suffering alongside them. You also can't weaponize your suffering and turn it into the suffering of others.

the D+ shows could’ve been a cool way to bring back old villains. have red skull return to earth after five years of wandering the cosmos in TFATW. have Wanda through her chaos magic and infinity stone fuckery accidentally bring back Ultron in WandaVision. literally fucking have 2012 Loki return to the present day MCU by the end of his show lol. Maybe not the Loki one, but stuff like Ultron could’ve been cool in the way he’s brought back by Wanda, but bides his time and eventually goes back to his comic roots in ant-man 3 by being a villain who antagonizes Hank Pym since Tony isn’t around anymore. or villains like Red skull could still want to take over the world but has a higher wisdom from his time protecting the soul stone and still doesn’t like the Earth he’s come back to. Pretty sure one of falcons first fights was with Steve fighting Red Skull.

I think the weirdest part of the infinity saga is that it's always boasted as an 18 film saga that leads up to Infinity War and Endgame but that's actually not true. Most of those movies don't have anything to do with Infinity War or Thanos at all. You only have to watch 5 movies to understand Infinity War and Endgame. The Avengers, Captain America the Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America Civil War, and Thor Ragnarök. If you only watch these 5 movies you won't recognize some new faces or know what their powers are, but to be honest, the standalone movies don't really explain those things either.

It seems that your only criticism of Guardians villains is their lack of comic accuracy, which is silly, as by your own metrics, they are fantastic villains for their films, wonderfully performed, and perfect foils for the protagonists. Ronan is perhaps a lil weak, but he *is* a perfectionist like the other villains, which is the opposite of the heroes. Ego, the sovereign, and even taserface are all incredibly insecure villains, mirroring the guardians character drama in the film. And Evo is literally a eugenicist who toys with the innocence of life, razing entire worlds on a whim, compelled by his own weakness and vulnerability, he is the PERFECT guardians villain.

Oh no, Thanos vs Hulk isn't the most disappointing fight in mcu. Thanos vs I-ve-got-one-knife Loki. Or they sucked equally. But Loki, as proven by Endgame, can operate Tesseract without any use of technology, so he could just port the whole whip away from Thanos, or even just himself and Thor, as they established that Loki had suddenly started to care for the most petulant, big-headed, selfish, and arrogant Thor we've had ever, in Ragnarok. Bottom line is, illusions, stone, his personal skills of transportation even without the stone - Loki shouldn't be dead that easily even by the rules of MCU, regardless of comics. And he'd gladly compromise to name himself Friggason, not Odinson, within MCU.

I actually think the mcu having an osbourn can work really well, introduce a Norman osbourn that becomes the new tech giant after stark, peter is paranoid because his last encounter, have peter spy on him because he knows he’s the green goblin, it’s just a matter of time until he exposes himself. Then have a goblin like character show up and after a couple fights it’s revealed that it’s not actually osbourn but rather the hobgoblin (any iteration) who was given tech BY osbourn to kill spiderman (like the cartoon) then you can do sone twist that Norman created the goblin serum and used the other guy as a test subject and then uses it on himself at the end of the movie. Also I don’t know how I feel about ned being hobgoblin, there would have ti be a lot to write around, maybe have his mom die, without ever having his best friend and his mom dead, he has lost his moral compass. He goes to college and scores an internship for a newly developed oscourp industries where ding ding ding he becomes a test subject for the goblin serum for either money or a sense of power after being at such a low point in his life. Now got get osbourn green goblin, and you get ned fulfilling the “don’t worry I won’t a villain and try to kill you” line from no way home. As miles said “make 2 cakes” lol

Yes because maybe Annihilus should have been in the villain of Endgame or the 2015 fantastic four movie as I thought other suggestions than just using Dr Doom again better yet make him be the villain of the MCU Fantastic four movie because I know he was originally going to be the main villain of Guardians of the galaxy 3 before changing it to the High Evolutionary which was a better choice because it doesn’t make sense why would Annihilus created Rocket Racoon if his motivations is all about wanting to live forever and that he is paranoid. As for the other suggestions for what villains they could have used in the 2015 fantastic four Is the Moleman,Mad Thinker,Frightful Four or the Red ghost and the super apes

@@srstriker6420 ironically the high evolutionary would have been my pick for the fantastic four villain. Well, he would have been the heavy anyway. If it was up to me the fantastic four would have had three villains. 1. H.E. (The heavy) 2. The puppetmaster (the renfeild) 3. Reed Richards of counter earth(the usurper) Dr. Doom would be relegated to cameos leading a revolt in latvaria with an army of doombots and mindless ones. Which would be elaborated on in a “hail to the king” style oneshot.

I think it would have been much more interesting if the original thanos/ farm scene was much later in the film rather than the first 5 minutes. It would have made his sacrifice of the stones way more impactful, plus if they hyped up a rematch to then see thanos just living a normal life would have been satisfying and a great way to add a true sense of subversion.

You should make your own plan on what you would’ve done if you had been in charge of the MCU
I like the ideas you’re putting out, personally I wouldn’t completely overhaul everything. I’d keep most of the major antagonists the same structure wise. I’d introduce the masters of evil for Phase one, have them be reoccurring villains through future phases. Keep Ultron, and Thanos as the main villains of phase 2/3, Focus on the fantastic 4, and Doctor doom for phase 4, and then eventually wrap up with Galacticus in the final phase, whatever number that is, I’m not the biggest expert on the whole Timeline, I just think he’s make a great final villain. All the other villains would still be distributed evenly, and have enough time to shine on their own before dying.

Absolute travesty we never got a proper post snap mcu, that builds up to endgame. This would have been the perfect time for a Hawkeye and Widow film. Punisher spin off and more. But Marvel hates money sadly
Adam Warlock Could Of Replaced Captain Marvel And Led The Charge And We Could Of Gotten A Movie Of “Him” Instead. Plus Nebula Should Of Done The Snap Instead Of Hulk…
The most disappointing villain I’m is Gorr, I’m so mad they wasted him when they had the source material right there. I wished the movie could be remade or he comes back like damm
this is why I think Garou from one punch man (mainly webcomic), is one of the best villians i have seen period, we spend time with him, seeing what makes him tick, the tribulations he has to overcome, and we know he will eventually lose, its in the series name, but in this he makes a perfect foil to saitama, and the conclusion between the two is incredibly satisfying

Honestly at some point, the MCU should just reboot itself like a James Gunn's DCU sort of thing. I know they probably won't do this, but I feel as if there will be a point where these movies won't be reliable money makers anymore.
I want Dr. Doom and Magneto to team up and fight the Avengers
Would've thought you'd tackle Agatha Harkness, given how much they changed her character from Wanda's mentor and ally to the Avengers and Fantastic Four to full on supervillain.
Overly dark villains are quite often the result of bad (rushed) CGI.
great conclusion to this series, one of the best critique videos i've seen. cheers
I think it makes sense that Mysterio shows his face to Peter because he wants him to trust him. But, perhaps his "real face" is also a mask. That'd be neat.
Had a huge collection of marvel collector cards growing up in the 90s, but never heard of Kang. At this point I don't even care to learn who that is.
We need to make our own Marvel fan made content like Star Wars fans on KZread.
A psychological drama about Yellowjacket declining in all areas of life while secretly being manipulated by his resentful robotic son would have been a masterpiece with the rights aesthetics. Instead we get this popcorn crap that isn't even good popcorn.
A Villain must be a worthy rival or a formidable obstacle, but Marvel villains are a checkbox to be ticked.

At this point I don't want them to touch Silver Surfer, Galactus and Fantastic Four. Just stop.
I think that Wanda’s case is a little bit more complicated because technically WandaVision was kind of a redemption / new strat arc. ( Before jumping at my throat let me explain ) In my opinion WandaVision was an interesting way to develop her character ( and mostly after Infinity war / Endagame events ).

The final battle in End game was poorly lit on purpose. It’s a technique used to either hide bad CGI or to save money on detailed rendering. I’m assuming it was for the latter here

Jason Statham Would Of Killed It as Taskmaster…
Can you do a video on Marvel TV's villains, and how they are better than the movie ones? (and if you think many of them are also bad, I would still love to hear your opinions on them)
It seems that your only criticism of Guardians villains is their lack of comic accuracy, which is silly, as by your own metrics, they are fantastic villains for their films, wonderfully performed, and perfect foils for the protagonists.

His criticisms are less on lack of comic accuracy than on the film versions failing to live up to the comic versions; the problem isn't that they were changed, but that those changes made them worse. Ronan was terribly forgettable and Ego could have been better if the writers hadn't forgotten he was a planet. HE was a decent villain but never especially threatening.
Nice analysis, thank you!
And you just earned yourself another Subscriber sir

Hey, now that you've done MCU villains Can you compare them to the Marvel TV villains? like David Tennant's Killgrave from Jesseca jones, Grand fucking Ward, from AoS, the Daredevil's Kingpin and more? I'd like to see the contrast and similarities and if the most long running of these, AoS has villains that fall into the same MCU trap (one I know does, but she's balanced out by a pretty fucking terrifying counterpart)
If a villain doesn't have a strong personality, then they need to embody the force of nature type. Be a seemingly unstoppable force that, through sheer force, leaves a psychological impact on the protagonist.
Hi, i just want to say that I love your ideas. Can you do vids about you can fix the bad parts. Of MCU, or your own version?
Probably Peter trying to prevent Norman from being the goblin but by doing so, he created the goblin.
