There are not very many films that I would describe as perfect, but The Matrix has to be one of them. It is an amazing example of every aspect of the film just coming together perfectly. The script, the structure and editing, the performances, the music...all of it REALLY hits the nail on the head just right. I've seen videos that analyze the screenplay, videos that analyze the themes and philosophy, videos that analyze the foreshadowing, the world building, the scene transitions, the opening, even down to the ending song choice. This is one of those movies where the stars absolutely aligned. As good or bad as you think any of the sequels are, a "Stars align" moment like the first film was never going to happen again.

Hmmmmmmmm, Not the Greatest but it's up there with DUNE, TWENTY THOUSAND LEAGUES, ALIEN, THE TERMINATOR, and PREDATOR as far as a Human driven adventure. A lot of cool twists among another A.I. take over Conflict. They did well.

@@ScriptSleuth It really is! An underrated gem in my eyes. The movie’s script features some of the most heartfelt scenes I’ve come across in anything. It’s well worth an analysis, as more people need to check it out! The Best Years Of Our Lives holds a special place in my heart, and part of that reason is to do with Robert E Sherwood’s wonderful script! :)

I was pretty surprised by your inclusion of The Matrix on your series. I watched your video and I have to say, in spite of all your attention to detail, that I still remain unconvinced of its narrative merits. I hadn't seen The Matrix since it was released and recently did a re-watch with my teenage kids who are still mercilessly teasing me for ever showing them such "a load of terribly clunky, cliched bollocks" - their words not mine - though I am now inclined to agree. This has had some damaging consequences, as they no longer trust my recommendations. It will now be an uphill struggle to get them to watch really great films such as The Godfathers and No Country for Old Men that you also analysed in such a wonderfully nuanced way.

What!? The matrix was the most badass and awesome thing for me growing up as a kid, and when I rewatched it again for the first time in a long time, I was blown away, maybe its because I also grew up watching Kung-Fu movies and what not, idk, but that boggles me that they think it's "bollocks" they're bollocks

@@johnchief270 I think calling my kids "bollocks" because they don't value a film you like is rather childish as well as pretty offensive. As Script Sleuth says, film "speaks to everyone in different ways." Although I am undoubtedly biased, my kids are definitely not bollocks.
