KOF15 didnt do anything wrong! actually it cater to the fans of the series!! KOF has always been too hard for the casuals. fighting games in 2024 is all about assessiblity and making things easier.. KOF legacy skills is important if SNK got rid of Legacy skill they would go bankrupt.. They know their demographic fanbase and target towards them.

Just to be clear, the game will have more characters (don't know if its singular or plural) and in an interview they did confirm it and that probably means we will have an update. What they did say was that they are prioritizing garou development but that doesn't mean that the game is "done".

It’ll probably get at least Ryu and Chun-Li to tie into Street Fighter 6 getting Terry and Mai. It does seem to be a KOF collab rather than a Garou one, with Terry and Mai getting their classic outfits.

I never stopped playing KOF15 as I stream my encounters online with a buddy. I'm kinda stuck in South Africa where KOF events are nonexistent.

Bro 😢... The only times i remember kof being active in SA was the arcade days, now with everything online its just sad. Even comic-con SA does have kof events, there are ony events for tekken and street fighter

So as far as a KOF 16, thats not gonna be for a good while and thats great. oda said before in his interview with roofle that they want to bring back titles like a fatal fury, Art of fighting, and samsho which were the foundation of KOF to happen at all. Which is great, give KOF time to rest, and put it to the side and focus on the other titles. Seasons 1 &2 definitely had highs and lows, biggest issues for me were lack of stages, costumes (non existent outside of some getting classic fits), and no updates to the boss rush stuff after goenitz. I feel like SNK has learned from KOF 14, Samsho, and XV. Each of those did things well and each had issues and COTW is looking like the culmination of those lessons. Releasing early 2025 is smart seeing as how the only other major fighter releasing is 2XKO and at the moment it dont seem to be in the window of Fatal fury, also the terry and mai dlc for SF6 coincides with the release too. But yeah, all in all there were definitely missed opportunities with game from marketing, updates, content ect. it was just good enough if that makes sense. Them having moved the main office to a new city, opening up new offices across Asia-Singapore just recently-along with vying to be a top 10 developer in the future, SNK are heading in a good direction. Sucks that KOFXV couldnt have been more than what it was but ill just add that even if it had the extra stuff, NA was not gonna flock to the game as much as they are eyeing COTW for a number of reasons. The thing is, I’m a huge KOF fan and really want the game to do well. It had a lot of misses when season 2 came around and the player base drop off was pretty huge. No one wants to wait months inbetween for Shingo then Kim by themselves in a 3v3 game. Season 1 was amazing imo and should of kept to releasing teams. Looking forward to Evo announcement but yeah I think Shen, Oswald and one more character to actually have a solid roster will make me happy!

Fatal Fury has a different Player Base, I wouldn't explain all the KOF players to just hop in. I gather COTW will have moderate success in the US because it feels closer to SF gameplay.. And then people will realize that they are just playing street fighter with 4 buttons instead of 6 and then switch back to SF6 right away and word would spread like "COTW as good as it is, is discount SF6 so why play the discount when you can play the real deal?? " That's what Fatal Fury is Sadly, at it's core (sans real bout series) it's a Street Fighter game minus two attack buttons.

I honestly think theres few more things you dint even mention that did end up hurting KOF XV wide appeal lol. but i also want to add that the game is far from dead right now, even with city of the wolfs coming soon, SNK has revealed that KOFXV is getting a final season of dlc along with a "special dlc" character. the game is also having its world championship qualifiers as we speak with VSFIGHTING and UFA not so far in the future in EU. was a fun surprise to find out your a kof fan thou haha.

It would be cool for season 3 to add characters that fill out a team for the season 2 characters. Like give Shingo Daimon and Saisyu. Maybe Sylvie and Najd can be together with Mian. Add one more boss character and you can put them with Rugal and Goenitz. Oswald and Shen go with Duo Lon....stuff like that. It bugs me that they add DLC characters and don't put them on a team ....

I was a big big fan of KoF14 and played it a ton! Unfortunately, I've gotten more into SF6 these days, but I still want to jump back in and play some KoF from time to time. My favorite grapplers of all time are in here! (except Goro ;-;)

Garou 2 2025 XVI 2026 XV could get season or two.

Right now, the rosters with the DLC is good but now I heard new special dlc character coming at Evo next week

I play and stream Kof 15 almost everyday and i can tell you that people are definitely still playing the game so that’s not a problem.

As a Fighting game this game is Extremely well balanced this Quality of life stuff wouldnt matter at all because no matter what KOF wont strive in the West And thats a fact atleast for now that is. More characters coming but this is the best Roster is the best its been lol

Hopefully this next announcement will breathe some life into the game

The only major thing they did wrong imo was take too long with the matchmaking adjustments, just like how they took too long with implementing rollback in Samsho. Hopefully their online issues have taught them enough to put Garou 2 in a good spot. Regardless, i think kof 15 has been doing about as well as any fan could have hoped. It's never going to come close to something like street fighter or tekken because despite those games having high skill ceilings, they both have much lower skill floors than KOF in regards to making cool things happen on screen. And learning three characters just increases that difficulty. You need something with a very low skill floor like DBFZ or 2XKO to ask someone to learn multiple characters. It'll be interesting to see what they announce at EVO for what i assume will be the final updates/season.

Let's cut to to the chase, and this breaks my heart as a KOF player Even if KOF 15 has 1 Good Rollback from the Start 2 Good Matchmaking from the Start 3 Hypothetically has a Good one player mode comparable to SF6 4 A Good Cinematic Story Mode comparable to MK9 (arguably the best cinematic story mode of any FG) 5 Hypothetically has SF6 Graphics or better 6 TEN BILLION Dollars prize in World SNK Tournament accompanied by loud marketing 7 All the countries where KOF were popular at were all given Free visas and accomodations to travel 8 Billions of Dollars spent at marketing from thee best marketing agencies/firms/entities in the world to the most popular influencers both casual and respected FGC names 9 The Best Single Player Fighting game content 10 15 DLC's per year with 2 free making it 17 11 10 boss rush 12 Every character has an EX version 13 Every character has an alternative attire 14 Yearly and Constant updates and transparency from the Devs It would still be the LEAST entered tournament in Evo this year, because the problem with KOF is STIGMA!! it just does NOT draw in the states people are DRAWN AGAINST it The numbers should tell you that KOF is the LEAST popular FG in the US, even Indie games and other oddities like fighting EX layer are more popular than it heck even Eternal Champions and WeaponLord are more accepted than KOF A Street Fighter 6 with KOF 14 Graphics, bad netcode bad matchmaking, piss poor content would EASILY outsell a KOF 15 with better than SF6 graphics, smooth gameplay, having all those fourteen items mentioned above.

SNK has adopted the NRS cycle with their games. I don't like it, but it's better for their sale and keeping the lights on at snk, so be it.

Personally, I think there needs to be revisions in the gameplay, and a sense of progression. KOF looks the same as it has since the beginning. No one seems to age, no time skips, no torch passing, same costumes from the beginning. As for gameplay, the mechanics are pretty much the same as previous entries with minor tweaks. I've been doing the same K combos since KOF 13. Buffing all characters mixup potential would help as well. There's a bit too much emphasis on short hops, and throws don't really do much. If they take these things into consideration and probably restart the entry count with a completely new saga, then there could be something special. But for fighting games in general, I think these teams should take more chances with 3d fighters. Wheter they be spinoffs, Tekken is showing people that it can be done with great success.

For me the massive problem was the matchmaking. When I'm learning a game I just want to queue up and get fed an endless stream of mediocre players until I learn to play better, and... they just neglected to make that part of the game work. Malpractice really. I tried! I really tried; a few of my buddies are big KOF fans and I wanted to enjoy it with them, but it didn't work out.

My big issue with KOFXV is the lack of game modes. I use Time Attack and Survival modes to explore my characters. It's really weird that they're not here. Also, where's Kensou? He's my main of MAINS! Having Athena without Kensou is like having Mario without Luigi! It's weird that he's not here. That's 2 games he's missed, now!

I agree with the modes but my issue is a lack of costumes/skins. Some characters like Terry, Leona, DLC characters had costumes while the rest doesn't.

their graphics are still outdated it has no pizzazz. Once they stopped doing 2d they just haven’t found their footing even garou seems so outdated. They need to do arksys style 2d bring some pow factor to it. They still feel like they are developing for a hand held or iphone game

You're totally right This is the mark of the downfall of kof as a series and fighting games in general,expect nothing better but half done games with washed out companies catering to easy mode loving fans who will spend $60 and then drop the game only to play the game for one second just to pay for the DLC Leaving us hardcore fans with a husk of a game,the end of times is near

As someone who loves kof and kof XV, I 100% agree SNK dropped the ball in a few places. 1. They did very little to attract new players to the franchise or reduce the barrier of entry. People still think kof is a hard franchise to get into, and they're right. Still charging $60 for this game 3 years later is also kind of insane. 2. The broken matchmaking bug did irreparable damage to the game's public perception, mainly because it took SNK a year to fix it. The bug itself wasn't as bad as people made it out to be, as you could still find matches after some waiting, but taking so long to fix it was the worst part about it. 3. Single player content is super weak. The special endings with specific teams is nice but it really needed something more. 4. Overall presentation was mid. Not only the graphics, but the game's menus and UI were nothing special. Even the main menu art looks like a placeholder on a pure black background with no animation or ability to change it without mods. 5. The opponent AI is BAD which in turn made the Boss Challenges and other single-player modes bad. The fact that it is very reliant on input-reading makes the AI just not fun to fight and easily exploitable. The way you fight the game's AI is very different from how you would want to fight other players. I'm personally fine with XV's roster. It's huge and has a lot of my personal favorites like Hinako and Darli, but yeah, kind of a bummer that so much of XIV's cast is missing. SNK didn't totally drop the ball though. Gameplay and game-feel is still top tier and I think it's better than SF6 in that regard.

Unless is 98 or 2002 kof is too hard for me. I’ll support them by buying them but won’t play them

Did the game not sell enough? Crazy they dropped it as quick as they did. They supported it, it feels like, a fraction of the time they did on 14. Weird. They’re like “we’re working on fatal fury now. Peace”.

I love king of fighters, the lore is amazing and I would argue outside of the anime fighter space it has the best character designs and concepts in fighting games. The devs actually care about characters and continuity. Just don't play it cause the online space is never big enough. KoF is honestly the best fighting game franchise that no one plays. Yeah KoF XV just really lacked content. No alt costumes no new colors to unlock. Barely any modes and boss battle only having 2. Gameplay is great but I don't want to play ranked all day after I get all the story mode endings

The Goenitz/crossplay update BROKE the game for xbox players. There was a glitch that would cause the game to send players back to the title screen. The online matchmaking experience was terrible waiting an hour only to fight the same player over and over. Lobbies not working. Fuck this game. Once the new city stage was added there was a sound glitch on the level that made he hear silence during the fight but hear the effects of the fight during the character select FUCK. KOF XV 😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂 It's the reason i reinstalled Killer Instinct 2013. I had high hopes for KOF XV because of how good 98 & 2002 was Never again SNK.

Was this game impacted by the Saudi buyout? Thus potentially putting the game in flux while the buyout was happening?

Lol they took a long time (more than a year??) to balance Konen, Jenneifer and all other way overpowered chars. Making KOF somewhat stale and "boring" to the masses.

Yeah after season 2, I stopped playing. I hate most of The Ash Saga characters were missed in the based roster and season 1. Also the balancing wasn't great, imo.

The problem is not evolving like other games
