I only got into TMV recently, but I REALLY like their music.. but I'm glad that I'm not alone in finding his live performances somewhat.. spotty. He's definitely not the first singer of a GREAT band to be much better in studio than live, RHCP are one of my favorite bands of all-time and Anthony Kiedis sounds straight up AWFUL live most of the time

@Aloysius2113
4 жыл бұрын
@@enaidealukal9203 it's pretty accepted that cedric isn't the best live singer. But I always think of him as a guy who started off mainly using shouts with occasional melodic lines (ATDI) who kinda fell into being an actual singer because his best friend wanted to start this crazy prog band. he can be very impressive on their albums, when he's not jumping around, instead putting 100% of his energy into the vocals. he's a terrific performer to watch though.
@enaidealukal9203
4 жыл бұрын
@@Aloysius2113 yeah he's AMAZING on the albums, and there's definitely a lot to be said for bringing the energy on stage as the frontman, even if the vocal performance suffers for it... and its hard to completely nail all the notes live every time no matter what you do. But not that many people who aren't musicians notice if a singer is slightly off-pitch live, especially when they're caught up in the overall atmosphere and action of a live show so its actually a pretty minor gripe. For those of us who are blessed/cursed with a good ear, it can be pretty hard to ignore.
I'm declaring this the greatest shit ever.
This is my first time checking out TMV. I read somewhere that they were a prog band, so I had to check them out. I get a very strong King Crimson vibe from this (especially when the sax came in). I like it. Before this, I watched some concert footage taken three years later (in 2010) and there were different guys in the band, and there were only 5 of them, and it wasn't as good as this performance.
@Pandamasque
2 жыл бұрын
TMV are almost as diverse as King Crimson in their vibe, sound and personnel. The 2005-2008 era is considered to be the most proggy and the most grand in terms of live arrangements. Alas, there aren't many pro-shot performances from then. In 2009 they went for a more stripped down approach, even while playing the same songs.

He's obviously a really talented singer, and the vocals on the studio tracks are amazing, but he is definitely pretty pitchy live (which is not very unusual, properly hearing yourself and hitting the right notes in a live concert setting is pretty difficult, even for professionals with professional-level audio engineers and mics/monitors and so on)
