The Many Victims of Patrick Mahomes

Спорт

Since the 2017 NFL Draft when the Chiefs selected Patrick Mahomes at pick #10, he has been terrorizing the rest of the league and certain players get that treatment many more times than others. Today we go over some of Mahomes rivals and why they can't seem to beat him on a consistent basis.
Who do you have winning the Superbowl? Chiefs or 49ers?

    At the ripe old age of 28 years and 21 days old, with a 27-20 win at Minnesota, Patrick Mahomes became the tenth player in NFL history to record a win against at least 31 opponents (the 32nd team, of course, is his Chiefs). Including the playoffs, the only team he has a losing record against is the Colts-but even then the Chiefs have a positive point differential in Mahomes' games against them (and his lone win came against former 1st overall pick Andrew Luck in the playoffs). In his six years as a starter, he has already beaten 12 different teams in the playoffs, including every AFC team outside his division except the Patriots and Jets (the Raiders have had one playoff appearance and the Chargers two during his tenure, but he's never faced either in the playoffs). He could beat his 13th different opposing starting quarterback in the playoffs on Sunday, by far the most of any quarterback before the age of 30, and if he does win, that 15th postseason victory will put him alone in 3rd place all time behind only Joe Montana and Tom Brady.

    Old guy here. Chiefs fan, but I need to point out the case where the NFL didn’t do KC any favors. Back in the AFC championship game with the Chiefs vs the Patriots with the goat Tom Brady in 2019, the exact scenario happened. Chiefs comeback, tie the score, we go to OT. Patriots win the coin toss, get the ball, go down the field, score the winning TD. MaHomes never gets to possess the ball in OT. The talk about OT rule change goes NO WHERE, nobody gives a shyt about the Chiefs. Fast forward to the Chiefs vs Bills divisional game in 2022, where the epic “13 seconds” game happens, exact same setup, Chiefs tie the score, go to OT, win the coin toss, get the ball, go down the field, score winning TD, Josh and the Bills don’t possess the ball at all, lose the game. Heartbreaking loss for Buffalo. But wait, there’s more!!!! NOW it’s a HUGE problem for the other team, we’ve got to change those pesky OT rules in the playoffs. RESULT: NFL rules for OT in the playoffs are CHANGED for the next following upcoming season. Viola!! So, I don’t want to hear any BS about how the league benefits the Chiefs.

    Head-to-head Brady's first 7 seasons compared to Mahome's first 7 seasons aren't even close. Brady's stats are far behind Mahomes at 7 seasons. Mahomes is set to break every record of Brady's in half the time.

  • @enzocirnigliaro8956

    @enzocirnigliaro8956

    3 ай бұрын

    @@Ray-sj2iw 1) Brady's first 7 seasons were in a completely different era than Mahome's first 7 seasons, it's not really a 1 to 1 comparison. Teams were more run-heavy, you could still hit the QB and receivers coming over the middle, and refs were more lax with defensive holding/pass interference. QBs threw for less yards, less TDs, and three more interceptions in the early 2000s. During that time Brady was just seen as a winner who always came through in the clutch, but he wasn't lighting up the stat sheet, just like Mahomes during this most recent playoff run; he wasn't throwing 400 yards and 3 TD every game, but when the Chiefs needed a play he made it. 2) Brady had an average at best receiving core when he came into the league, and he was on a team with a defensive-minded head coach. The first year he had an elite receiver, he threw 50 TDs. Mahomes had the advantage of having an elite WR and an elite TE to throw to as soon as he became a starter, plus he had one of the best offensive minds in NFL history calling plays. Throwing 50 TD passes in his first year as a starter is still an amazing feat, but his TDs were slightly inflated bc Andy calls a lot of screens, shovel passes, and those WR "pop passes" that are basically just jet sweeps but count as a pass statistically. Most other teams would just run the ball in those goal to go situations, but Andy uses those quick passes and screens as an extension of the run game. 3) Brady's statistical prime was from his late 30s into his 40s, which was probably partly due to finally being able to play in a more pass-heavy era. He wasn't putting up Manning/Mahomes/Rodgers type numbers when he first came into the league. Mahomes has had the opposite trend. He was lighting teams up chucking it deep in his first year as a starter, but now he's lost his elite deep threat and defenses know how to play his deep passes better, he's switched up his game to being efficient and throwing it short, letting his receivers pick up YAC. Not taking anything away from him; it's extremely impressive that he's been able to completely switch up his game after defenses made adjustments and still remain incredibly efficient. 4) Brady's level of production in his late 30s into his 40s is something no QB has ever done before. Most QBs fall off a cliff around age 38-39 at the latest (Brees, Roethlisberger, Manning, etc). Considering Mahomes relies on mobility a lot more than Brady, there's no guarantee he'll be able to keep this production up when he's 40+ like Brady did. I still think he'll be elite well into his 30s tho. My comment on Mahomes being a victim of Brady was based on the fact that Brady is 3-2 against Mahomes overall, and he's 3-0 when it really matters. And since Brady is done, it's not like the Burrow situation where Mahomes has time to even the score.

  • @Ray-sj2iw

    @Ray-sj2iw

    3 ай бұрын

    @@enzocirnigliaro8956 LOL any more excuses? The in-the-grasp rule on QBs took effect in 1978. The hands-to the head rule 1980. Brady has never thrown even close to 50 TDs in a season, he has never thrown over 5,000 yards in a season. Mahomes has thrown 50 yards in one season and threw for more than 5,000 yards in a season twice. Now what QB rule are you talking about? You know, the one that makes Mahomes better than Brady? Was it in 2001 when the NFL announced Protecting the passer will be emphasized even more. Taunting rules will be tightened, with 15-yard unsportsmanlike-conduct penalties flagged. Or was it in 1996 when they did this: Hits with the helmet or to the head by the defender will be flagged as personal fouls and subject to fines. This is being done to protect the offense, particularly the quarterback. So what rule is talking about? How was it more legal to hit a QB in 2001 than now? Bahahaha. You should actually have some idea what you are talking about before you comment and look stupid.

I did some research and found that the Minnesota Vikings lost 16 games since 2021 by 8 points or less (one touchdown and a two point conversion to tie it up). It is worth noting only one of those losses was by 8 points, all the others were by 7 or less. The chargers had 17, which blew my mind. As a Chiefs fan we are beyond blessed to have Patrick at QB, Andy as HC, Spags as DC, Brett Veach as GM (please bring back Eric Bieniemy as OC) and Butker to kick field goals. But coach Harbaugh will get the Charges straightened out fast and look for them to start competing for the division as early as next season. I see the Raiders as a work in progress but they always compete hard and will continue to improve. As tail end Charlie in the division, even Sean Payton can't fix the dumpster fire Denver Donkeys Lol

    Really, the AFC, in general, are victims of Mahomes. From 2018 to now, of the other 15 teams in the AFC, the Chiefs have ended the postseason for 10 of them. The entire AFC South has been conquered, the Colts in 2018, the Texans and Titans in 2019, and the Jaguars last year. All of the the AFC North souls have been claimed, the Ravens this year, the Bengals last year, the Steelers the year before that, and the Browns the year before that. The only AFC teams Mahomes hasn't sent packing are New England, the Jets, Broncos, Chargers, and Raiders. The Patriots, Chargers, and Raiders have made the playoffs once since 2018, and all got bounced by someone else, while the Jets and Broncos don't know what the postseason is.
