One thing I love about this series is how you don’t judge these designs completely on accuracy. So many dinosaur creators just go “this isn’t 100% accurate and if therefore bad,” but you stray away from that and judge the designs as just that, designs.

people that thinks something is accurate by a % is the clowns in this community. They do have no idea what the living animal looked like. Thanks for the clowns tho, that makes us laugh so good!

@@grandiosa86 I don’t disagree with what you’re actually saying but I wouldn’t say people have “no idea” if we’re being fair lol. With most dinosaurs I’d say that sentiment actually is the case since we only have a very general idea of what they might’ve looked like (and that’s if we’re lucky), but that’s not the case with all dinosaurs. There’s many of them that we can definitively say that at the very least we are pretty damn close, all things considered. Hell we literally know everything down to the actual color of a handful of dinosaurs (a couple marine reptiles too) as far as their physical appearance goes. Behavior and stuff like that is far more speculative of course, but as far as physical appearance goes we definitely can come VERY close with some species, barring a few relatively minor details. Please don’t take this as an argument or anything though because like I said I completely agree with you for the most part, I’m just commenting this as clarification so some random idiot doesn’t read ur comment and think “epic, this fire breathing rainbow colored spiky dragon T.rex design I saw on deviantart is technically accurate!” Lol.

@@grandiosa86 yeah of course that wouldn’t even make sense. You’d have to know what they looked like with 100% accuracy to even come up with those percentages which is an oxymoron if I’ve ever seen one. Sadly though, it sometimes feels like a lot of people in the paleo community might as well be a walking oxymoron themselves with the ideas they spout as facts lmao. By adding to ur comment I just hope to further deter some people from thinking that way at least. Sometimes it feels like you’ve gotta write a full on thesis just to say one small thing that way random idiots don’t run away with it and interpret it however they like. Gotta love the internet & the paleo community

It just sucks how such an awesome dinosaur is often either overlooked, or just used as an Allosaurus punching bag. I’m honestly amazed such a badass looking dinosaur as Ceratosaurus is so very often underused. My personal favorites are the JWE and PK Ceratosaurus designs.

One thing I've noticed is that more recent interpretations, at least in gaming, are portraying ceratosaurus as a more "brutish" creature. The Isle, Primal Carnage, Ark (mod), and even Path of Titans, they all seek to portray ceratosaurus as something that can stand its ground. Certainly better than "local punching bag" that seemed so prevalent before

The ideas surrounding the dinosaur have changed over time. Cerato was overshadowed, mainly by Allosaurus, and underrated as a result. I think it mainly comes down to its size. Our species has a bias towards admiring large animals...and cute animals. In reality, Cerato lived around Allo and co-existed with it, which makes you wonder what their relationship as species was like.

It's insultingly ironic that people want to design awesomebro dinosaurs with osteoderms and don't appreciate enough this real dinosaur which had osteoderms and crests. To me when I was a kid, Ceratosaurus really felt like a decorated mini T-Rex, and it doesn't matter that it's only mid sized. I also like the fact that since dinosaurs like Saltriovenator existed and probably looked like Ceratosaurus, it's design can be used in any setting set throughput actual Jurassic period.

My exact thoughts and interpretations as a young child as well. My favorite dinosaurs, well visually favored are those with decorative crests or uniqueness from others. Before personal experiences My favorite carnivore was ceratosaurus; unless dilo & cryolophosaueus can be counted but not sure if their in the actual dinosaur family. Unfortunately allosaurus got me with some personal game experiences on a full realism server which lasted multiple real years as a pack I helped create blossomed. So allosaurus with its fancy crest alongside personal bias of great experiences win me over..... but I'd be lying if I said cerato wasn't still my more favored looking just by appearance alone. Appreciate how The Isle game either cerato or allosaurus can easily kill one another as well. It's not just one dominating the other. It's also why hadrosaurs tend to steal my heart with those like Para, Lambeosaurus, and just.... all of the unique crests and displays they can have. Yet, again personal experiences of a shantungosaurus wins my heart for personal love because I managed to keep one alive in the same game on a semi-rule server for multiple years. Not a herd with generations like the allos- but a singular individual. Who loved through countless events, every single carnivore and rule breaking herbivore attack, hackers, and more. I call this ancient grandmother shantungosaurus "Grandma Shanty" I could just love shantu's due to their immense size or power... but I've never cared about *_Who the MoSt PowErFuL oR BigGeSt._* ever. Even as a kid that never mattered to me. I just appreciated each dinosaur or creature for their own individual uniqueness. Even what would be considered the bland maiasaurs. They are unique due to their appearance, others just take that build and expand on it. But I've rambled far too much already, sorry just it brings so many memories or thoughts with this topic. ♡

There's a cool one that you might have missed: it had a brief appearance in Disney's Fantasia, during the Rite of Spring segment. Here a mixed herd of stegosaurs and brontosaurus(?) get stuck in a pool of mud whilst migrating across the endless desert. Here a pack of four Ceratosaurs are seen attempting to hunt them. They have the large nose horns and osteoderms, plus maybe a little bit of the crests, but weirdly seem to lack teeth

Worth noting about the jw ceratosaurus. When the scorpios rex attacked it, it used its jaws and arms to wrestle the cerato down, but the camera moves away as this happens. Later, when it's dragged off, you see the cerato was hit with quills. Maybe I'm looking to far into it, but I interpret this as that initial attack failing to kill the cerato, and the cerato putting up enough of a fight offscreen for the scorpios to have to use its venom. Also, a high quality mod for Ark, Ark Additions, has an interesting ceratosaurus design. Its got venomous spikes, and is actually pretty strong for its size. Accurate? No. Cool? Yes, at least in my opinion.

I don't think that's accurate to say, its just how its portrayed. you could say all raptors are underdogs too cause they're smaller than another predator they lived but really they just hunted their own prey without really interfering with the larger predator. Even then Ceratosaurus is not the smallest predator in the Jurassic Morrison (Allosaurus is only two meters longer) there are lots of predators like Marshosaurus that are way smaller than it in the environment.

There was this movie made by the asylum called age of dinosaurs, they had a T-Rex size ceratosaurus, it had a blue body and a bright red head Jurassic Park builder and it was portrayed as one of the main villain dinosaurs besides the human sized carnotaurus and the pteranodons

It's almost like they took the design from Jurassic Park and mix it up with a t-rex, also with the size

I doubt you will see this but there are a bunch of other spino designs I hope you look at, video games, movies and tv shows. Terra Nova the tv show has a spinosaurus called the “empirasaurus”. Fossil fighters, fossil fighters champions, fossil fighters frontier are all DS games that have unique designs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Season 7 Episode 1 - “Tempus Fugit”. Dino crisis 3s’ (Miaplacidus) is a spinosaurus with lots of genetic mutations! Teen titans “nega beast boy” episodes “the end part 1-2” have a white spino. The isle also has a new design and model for spino, along with the neuro spino. Just a few others I came across! Hope you check them out and hopefully I provided enough content for another vid!

I always thought that cerato looked like a smaller awesome bro rex when I first saw it. Its really ironic how people complain about how dinosaurs aren't cool enough and need osteoderms and spikes even though there are plenty of real life dinosaurs that have these features.

You've done Fantasis before, how could you forget the Ceratas in that? They were threatening the animals stuck in the mud in the extinction section
