Dang! That was a scary fall the horse took at 5:47. I believe JW was lip syncing cause that couldn't of been his voice. First time to see Loretta Young's sister Polly Ann Young in a movie. I enjoy seeing Gabby Hayes in these old movies.

John was quite athletic and agile when he was twenty-six; and a heck of a horseman. It's a wonder why it took him ten long years to break through into main stream film. Remember, this same year, 1933, Randolph Scott was already making "A-Westerns" for Paramount. Luckily for us, Wayne would have forty-six more years of fine work to give; maybe even more had he not smoked so much. A lot of those actors quit for not breaking through after a few years; Duke never quit!

Wow John Wayne singing. As surprising as clint and marvin singing in paint your wagon. Did they use the same set in several films. Speedway racing with horses and stagecoaches. Cool.

The main actress Polly Ann Young has a few sisters and the most famous was Loretta Young we all know from so many movies. Miss Polly lived a long life and made quite a few movies herself.

Wayne made a ton of these formula B-and-C Westerns at Vitaphone and Lone Star (later Republic) after his basically wooden lead performance in 1930's Fox spectacular "The Big Trail", which almost sank the studio. In these, he relearned his craft and all parts of making a movie, creating the John Wayne persona Walter Wanger saw for "Stagecoach" in 1939.

Does anyone know who wrote & where the opening instrumental music came from ???.....its not listed in the credits & other copies of the film don't have it.....the horn & guitar have heroic strains of good triumphing over evil which to my ears personifies what JW is all about.

I've watched a few of these Lone Star pictures over the last few weeks. They obviously had a problem with the locations. The road where the stage stops and the cliff dropping into the pool are used in almost all the pictures that I've watched. The original rodeo footage was great however.

BUT a very satisfying movie and thank you for the upload. And the leading actress, sister to looretta Young, was good. The camera angles never show his right hand ( that would have been strumming and/ or picking ) . What we can see of left hand doesn't corespond to typical chord shapes ,and doesn't change in time with chord changes . So regardless of any vocal efforts or not , the guitar was faked . But this was the era of Singing Cowboy , both in films and music . Gene Autry , Rex Allen , Roy Rodgers , etc, etc . Lone Star Productions didn't have one , and it would have been almost neglect to not try to gain a little crossover action . With apologies to Bruce Willis , Kenau Reeves, and Don Johnson , it's generally more successful to take a good singer and guitarist and teach them to ride a horse on camera than the reverse .

Sorry, this is bloody awful, not because the movie is inherently bad (I actually love old B-westerns) but because it’s laced with that horrendous electronic music score that Sony created for this and several other of the Wayne Lone Star/Monogram productions when released to laser disc back in the ‘90s. They did this to more or less try to “re-copyright” these films-this was the first time any of the Line stars had been transferred to home video from 35mm prints. Ultimately, though, the only thing that they own are the actual scores themselves. The underlying films are completely in the public domain. Interestingly enough, when this same set of films was shown on AMC it was, thankfully, WITHOUT the music scores.
