RIP 🙏 to legendary actors Robert Vaughn, David McCallum, and Leo G. Carroll! Thank you gentlemen for those great childhood memories in the 60’s watching one of many of my favorite spy shows, The Man From Uncle.

David McCallum. Was a beautiful and gracious man. When his marriage ended to Jill Ireland, he said that it enabled him to find the love of his life. Robert Vaughan was always classy and sauce. The girls in my school were crazy about them and the excellent show. RIP to both of you and thanks for the amazing performances.

This was one of my all time favourite TV shows: The Man from UNCLE with spin-off movies like The Karate Killers. Robert Vaughn was the ideal sleuth, suave and sophisticated, besides being handsome in his own way. His diction too was commendable. Karate Killers also guest-starred the lovely Diane McBain [she recently passed]. Diane also was in The Deadly Toys affair, another UNCLE episode, that also guest starred Angela Lansbury.

Looking back on this favorite show of mine from "those were the days," one thing I realize now is how gracefully Robert Vaughn shared the spotlight with David. I mean the show was supposed to be SOLO's, but Illya stole it (without trying to) out from under him, and Vaughn, with coolness and camaraderie, turned the whole thing into the coolest TV bromance I know of. And all these scenes re-viewed here reveal how well Vaughn and McCallum worked as a team. Well done, numbers 2 and 11. And thanks to you, Catherine, for these videos. Dang the producers for turning the show into campy fluff. Still--gotta love it.

Napoleon Solo was equally popular as Illya, so nothing was stolen. Many men and young boys wanted to be Napoleon. Some girls have said they also wanted to be him. David probably got more fan mail because it was unusual for men and boys to send fan mail to a man on a show like MFU. Anyway, they shared the spotlight and remained friends for years.

Just finished watching Series 1 in black and white. Reliving my childhood. OK so they were corney and not up to todays standard, but they are great fun. But I still remember the thrill of the opening sequence where Solo is behind the glass as it cracks from the gunshots. The really daft thing is that they worked on only about 10 location sets and you see the same places again and again. Even the same vehicles. And they never really got outside MGM studios and back lot.
