The Malevolent Mutoids | Sci Fi Bestiary

Ойын-сауық

Under the fascist regime of the Terran Federation, might is right. Thanks to a policy of brainwashing, sedation and chemically altered rations, the Federation’s civilian population is kept in a constant zombie-like state to maintain peace and order throughout Federation Space. Not that it always works, mind you - and that’s where the military comes in.
In service to the Terran Federation, the cybernetically enhanced Mutoids made up the backbone of the Terran Federation’s military forces, especially in the support and crew fields. Unlike most military forces of the Federation, the mostly female Mutoids were unusually competent at repetitive, often complicated tasks. This is in part thanks to the cybernetic transformation that created the Mutoids in the first place, the first step being to have their minds and personalities completely wiped from existence, leaving in their place a cold and analytical mind, incapable of acting outside of their orders.
So pull up your collars, chew on some garlic and let's meet the Mutoids!

I've always liked the notion that the mutoids are intended to be entirely androgynous as well. That they're so completely stripped of identity that they're effectively genderless as well. I could see them being yet another kind of psychological tool of the Federation. Taking the outspoken and rebellious, and 'preserving' them as these walking corpses that enforce order. Dissenters would be confronted by formerly familiar faces, only with souless eyes behind them. Something of a counterpart to the faceless troopers.

That’s a great observation. Really love that, and certainly a level of intimidation and psychological warfare that really deserves some focus - definitely in line with Blake’s off-screen transformation at the start of the show too - in hindsight seems like a waste to send prisoners off-world when they can transform them into an army!

If you ask me, the Mutoids are almost a kin to the Cybermen - once human but were converted into walking talking corpses in giant suits of armour, subsequently losing all personality and memory.

100% - except one is a product of slavery, the other of a belief in immortality If you’ve ever seen the BBC comedy Hyperdrive, there’s an interesting comparison that can be made with Sandstrom, who seemingly volunteered to become a cyborg to pay off her student debts

Blake's 7 is such an amazing series. There was a time here on YT when there was an awesome channel that had the entire series. It was great. I watched it twice back-to-back and them started watching selected episodes and then sadly it was removed. I've looking into buying it on dvd. It's not too difficult to find but I'd also need to pick up a dvd player that's not region specific too. Anyway, watching clips about Blake's 7 is always great and reminds me that I really do need to get this series for my collection! I enjoyed the Mutiods video, Spaced Out!

You won’t regret it - even if it sounds like a lot of faff! An absolute stellar show, I enjoyed every second of it when I went through it last year - and I was watching it fresh! In case you haven’t already seen it, I have a video about the Liberator on the channel that you might enjoy!

I'm a subscriber and I've watch your video on the mighty Liberator! At one point in the past 10 years I bought a Corgi Liberator toy off the dread bay(eBay). I've got the metallic silver version.

If your computer plays DVD's there are lots of ways to play any DVD regardless of region. VLC would almost certainly do the trick if nothing else.

What's this show about? Is it a sitcom like Red Dwarf?

The Dirty (halfish) Dozen in space following a group of wanted criminals on the run, fighting against an oppressive government - essentially Doctor Who’s cynical cousin. Well worth the watch - the performances more than make up for the wobbly sets!

@@marcusblackwell2372 the writing is pretty stellar so was deliberately funny in parts too - but personally think it holds up as a solid drama! I have some compilations on the channel, maybe take a look and see what you make of it!
