Crazy Mama and Hand of Fate are two of the greatest rockers in the entire Stones catalogue. I wish they would be more known to the casual Stones listener. When you describe the "Stones" sound, these two songs are prime examples.

Your uncanny ability to tell the story and keep me interested all the way through and absolutely wanting more at the end. I think Keith should give you one of his 3000 guitars that he doesn’t use . Why not Keith think how cool that would be.

One thing to look at and think of, Mick Taylor's career did not excel after, he did well....but stayed under the radar, but loved his work. A question would be, what would Mick T sound like contributing to one song on a new album. That would be interesting, and if I was the Stones, I would pay Mick T mega bucks to contribute! forget any egos.

Hi Cindy....I think I made my point loud an clear with MEMORY. I do not think any other artist came come close to this. Mick's voice is not spectacular, it is how he uses it and learned to as he moved along. Yes, that is why they called Mick Brenda, his personalities changing often. A surprise of which Mick/Brenda you would meet. Yeah, aside from his grueling drug period, once Patti came in, he became the tamer and kinder Keith. He is so pleasant to listen to on interviews after. I feel good getting the word out, and folks appreciating it and learning more. I as a fan, watched this also....and still absorb. I should have mentioned that good stage lighting is all they needed, and we would accept them as is. Those props remind me of a flashy car with over flashy hubcaps and spoilers etc. LOL, I had friends like that, and always laughed at that gaudiness. all the best Cindy! thank you.

You do these documentaries as if that was gonna be your life's work! Voice for it, tone, plenty of research, the whole deal, man! I have bought most EVERY book, magazine, documentaries, posters, souvenirs, shirts ,hats, damned near every article written by the Stones, their roadies, groupies, bodyguards, you na.e it! And there was no internet when I started collecting. I just dug the whole scene and wanted to know more about the Stones than anyone else! I'm 60, and my first 8 -track of the Band was Black and Blue. Then I started to get coffee table books, and if I found 2 or more, I bought all I could get so I could very carefully remove the photos and framed them and still had whole ,complete copies of history. I never had a computer, still don't, but I did some hellacios collecting of posters, books, framed artwork, some very obscure and RARE collectors books, most every documentaries, albums by each members solo work, shirts, hats tour programs, But then they went commercialized these last say 20 or so years and became the most famous and huge, and rich bands of all times, and I can't justify spending more money than I have. I have a whole apartment completely decorated with the Stones . But I also started collecting my favorite Country greats, such as The Highway men, Hank Williams, 11 and 111. Jim Croce, Bill Joe Shaver. And one of the most popular and smartest, talented, Rhodes Scholar, boxer, military man, teacher that West Point tried so hard to get to teach for them, And he decided to take a trip to Nashville before going to be a teacher At West Point, and saw Johnny Cash at the Ryman, and with his huge resume, copter pilot, golden gloves, helluva football player soldier hugely intelligent soldier and Captain, saw Johnny Cash play that night and it was basically 3 second decision that he wanted to be the next Johnny Cash! And he struggled for years and worked janitorial jobs for Columbia Records for several years, bartender, and was deciding on leaving Nashville, and Cash heard the song that was to make them both very famous. What was the song? Hell, someone else tell me that song! I LOVE THE WORK YOU DO. IF YOU GET A CHANCE, YOU CAN JUST SEND ME A MESSAGE. I TRULY DIG YOUR DOCUMENTARIES AND I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR MORE ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS AND HOW YOU GOT STARTED TURNING ALL OF US FANS ON! THANKS FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND HIT ME UP SOMETIME, BROTHER! BEAUTIFUL WORK YOU DO!✌👍

@@jerrycohen8385 Hi Jerry, thanks for your support here and your appreciation. First I think your question to find 'that' song was Sunday morning coming down written by Kris Kristofferson. I did not start as early as you did (same age) with collecting, but I did collect the mags. I am in total sync with your philosophy, and being the 'go to' guy with knowledge and passion. But always wanting to share it and turn people on. If you do not know of Matt Lee, check him out on YT and FBook. He has some collection and a new book HOT STUFF. I had a Wedding/Bar Mitzvah video making business. Succesful because I did the work of 2 people when shooting and knew how and what to shoot so they would not be boring and clients pressing fast forward. All my videos were entertaining and visually moving like a movie. As I started hearing folks claiming to be Stones fans on KZread doing Stones album reviews and also some bashing of albums and rating them I just got fed up. Especially seeing comments praising these folks that did 8-15 min reviews by going to Wikipedia and copying info. First off a Stones fan has favorites, songs/era/guitarist/albums understood. But a real fan would not bash them. Even Dirty Work has some potential. I do realize their lyrics became below par post 90's. But folks do not know how to listen and breakdown the minute details of why they are the greatest, and why their performance has never been duplicated. A rarity in our lifetime. I got so fed up with it. We would listen over and over to them. The biggest problem was, folks do not realize they need to be played loud and/or thru headphones to get a FIRST understanding of their talents. So with all this floating in my head, and fed up with this fakers out there, I thought the fans needed to be spoon fed and understand who, what, where, why and how they do what they do and their real timeline. that is my short answer. cheers p.s. YT does not allow messaging anymore.

That's maybe a good thing for them NOT TO HAVE IT,ANYMORE! Seeing B&B was my first 8 track, I have had to replace it with cassettes, and CD's. And I was betting 100-1 you knew that I was Seeing that you knew the Kris riddle. Most people hardly listen to a whole song. And to me, my biggest concern and enjoyment is to hear a song once, and right away determine if it is a awesome lyrical story that jams and plays great loud, and is there a personal experience that I went through myself, and how darn good the music makes the lyrics blend and sound ultimately as a personal true story I ha e lived through myself. On B lack and Blue ,, I had this chick and we had a Memory Motel. Every Saturday and Sunday. It was not as soon as I b6the 8track, but many years after. And we both grew to love it when we were on our way every time we went for the weekend. And if you listen closely to Hand of Fate, even though the song has the gritty, grinding music and sound of the Stones, It's. A GREAT SONG About a couple having a great extramarital love affair HE HAD NO LOVE FOR THAT GAL of Mine----------- but HE HAD PAPERS THAT THE JUDGE HAD SIGNED! AND THEY WERE WRITING TRUE ,LIVE , ROCK AND ROLL TRUTHS. I AM INTO MOST MUSIC THAT YOU CAN SEE IN MY LIFE ,ON THE NEWS, REAL LYRICS AND THE STONES TO PLAY IT LOUD AND HE SLOPPY AND THAT5THE STONES METHOD OF DELIVERY, WHICH IS THE DAMNED HISTORY OF THEM!. SUNDAY MORNING COMING DOWN makes you feel the boy kicking the can and the smell of someone frying chicken, stumbling to the closet and finding his cleanest dirty shirt, wishing Lord that he was stoned! I don't think I have to get any points across to you. But so many people are not hearing ANYTHING! I Write poetry and my older brother is who turned me on to Kris. He's published a few personal poetry books and wrote one helluva book of poetry and 2 cd's published in Nashville and out of 13 songs, 10 are great, story tellers, but we k own there are many ignorant people who will read a book or a poem and miss the whole scene. So he wrote a forward at the beginning of the poetry and songs bc we know less than half will get what it's really about. Hell, I listened to Kris Kristopherson song Allen BILLY DEE, AND THE LYRICS ARE SO CLEAR, I figured it out before it was hLf wY through. Check it out. I was maybe 13 . When I heard the song that was telling about BILLY DEE, a good timing honky Tonkin party boy. Thanks again!

Steve, this one was truly worth waiting for. It's an outstanding job on a remarkable album. Your hard work, knowledge and love for what you do shines through and is just terrific. The story I heard behind the "Who The F*ck is Mick Jagger" t-shirt is that Mick had dropped in to a Miles Davis LA studio session. Mick was in an ante room of some sort waiting to see Miles, and someone told Miles that Jagger was waiting. Miles apparently said "Who the f*ck is Mick Jagger?" and kept him waiting a while. Bear in mind, this was during Miles' Dark Magus blacked-out windows years, so it makes sense .... Oh, and just randomly to say, (a) I love what Charlie does in Hot Stuff for a couple of seconds just after Mick sings the Jamaica line, and (b) I know exactly what her hair all drenched in spray looks like.

@@FlipSideCT Steve, I have no idea where I heard the Miles story, so have no source for it. I hope it's true and it makes sense, but I'll look too and see what we can see. And on your comment below about Darryl, I will say only that I have missed Bill since 1991. It's weird to me that Keith said only years later he had never quite realised how good Bill was. hey steve was so looking forward to pt3 and didn’t disappoint👍🏻you never fail to put together a great doco☝🏻as far as the album i have a few opinions🤔i think firstly when it was released it was the longest as far as distance between releases so some fans were dissatisfied expecting something different😩i personally think the songs are strong but collectively maybe not, side A plays well although hot stuffs not a great opener but side B were the problems are with hey negrita, melody and fool to cry not a great trio together and even worse on cd format with 5 non stones regular sort of songs in a row!i think crazy mama placed before fool and rounding the album of with melody might of worked better👍🏻in saying all that i still have it in my top 6 fav stones albums🎸looking forward to any more doco’s you release simply outstanding😁

thank you for your kind words and sharing your thoughts. As mentioned, I understand the thinking and absorbed what you said. A 2 year hiatus of album releases. I do remember and know folks wanted that rocker album and disappointed not having Taylor. A huge difference in melodic musical flow and presentation. I guess my key comment point is, not to even look at this as a flowing album....but as different songs presenting themselves individually. Any one of these songs can fit in on any one of their albums. I am thinking of Some Girls, but do not have enough material yet....and not ready to buckle down and start reading this quick. cheers and thanks again!

The Black and Blue period, Stones at their most colorful, really creative period, i totally agree that B+b has some of the greatest Stones moments on vinyl and laying the path for how they mature as a band. Fool to cry, memory motel , Hey Negrita, Hot stuff are all big reasons why I fell in love with the Stones in the first place.

A brilliant deep dive into the incredible musical legacy of the Rolling Stones. As with previous FlipSideCT examinations, this series is rich in context that is as insightful as it is comprehensive. By exploring the circumstances around the album's creation-Taylor's departure, the gear, the players, the places, the amazing prowess and insanity of the mid-70's touring Stones, the album as audition for a new guitar player, etc., one is given a unique glimpse into a band that is forever in transition. Even today: RIP Charlie Watts and props to Steve Jordan. Underlying it all, is a scholarship that is deeply resonating for its curiosity, appreciation, honesty, and warmth. Very uniquely and importantly, it is also the investigation of a musician breaking down the parts of the whole to better understand the craft of the band and the craft itself.

I just finished this epic trifecta series on the making of Black and Blue. What an odyssey! I feel like I’m really getting to know the Stones intimately. I think their Black and Blue LP is way underrated. I can remember buying this back in 1976, and feeling like they were going back to their roots on this one. I was very attracted to the track “Melody.” It was such a departure in style but I really dug it and still do. “Hot Stuff” remains a staple on my Stones playlist for workouts. And as you sum it up near the end, the Stones are only human, just like us. That only endears me to them that much more. “*****” (5 stars)

The Stones in the seventies were so interesting... there was a lot going on professionally and personally. It became less interesting later on with the personal stuff, but that's not a bad thing - Keith met and married Patti, and is still married to her. His life was back on an even keel. More power to him. Bill Wyman of all people did the last outrageous thing - married a teenager when he was in his fifties!

@@FlipSideCT I love their music, but in 1981, I believe, came the Tattoo You tour. They, as before, left Kansas City off the tour. Many of my Friends bought tickets to see them at Red Rocks, But the local Rock Station that was KY102 began a petition to bring them to town. I think there was close to 75k signatures. They came, and I went to that one. It was evident immediately that they didn't want to be there too much. It was lazy & sloppy, I left feeling like I could have bought several of their albums, for the cost of my ticket, and enjoyed the music. I do understand their earlier tours were great, but, for me...I just wouldn't have come if I were them. They clearly did not want it, why do it? I will have to do some hunting, most of our master tapes were held by our bassist, and we lost him to Cocaine, 6 weeks after our last show. By then I was doing a contract with Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, producing several paintings in a 3 year project. I can no longer locate the drummer, who I've known since we were 12, and our guitarist probably would have burned anything he had...I may have a cassette somewhere from a practice, but I don't know after all the moving. Im back in KS, and ive had a studio built in my backyard, We are moving equipment in now, and if nothing else, I will post stuff from my project.

@@FlipSideCT Hey Steve, I will try my full commentary again. Perhaps it needs to be posted in a couple of parts...maybe the error message was due to the length of it as one posting. Now, 1 of 2. It is a sad state of affairs when you have to say or put up disclaimers isn’t it…sigh…but it is a sign of the times. I have to admit I am one of those people who is not a fan of B and B. To me, before your 3 part dissection of it, I thought of it as a bit of a mess but after hearing your research and thoughts, now do see more merit. Not being a musician, I cannot fully appreciate it either. It is an exploration of many genres isn’t it. It’s a bridge between eras too: Mick T to full on Ronnie. The Stones are one for growth, or were, as I'm not sure some of the recordings of the last 30 or 40 yrs vary much. I do appreciate growth with acts, but I also enjoy bands like the Offspring as you know what you’re going to get, and there won’t be experimentation as they are consistent with their product, not unlike a fast food joint, I suppose, haha. Having said I don’t really like B and B, I do think Hand of Fate and Memory Motel are up there with the best Stones material. I think I became aware of the Stones around B and B, or perhaps during the 75 Tour of the Americas. I recall a photo of Mick in Maple Leaf Gardens in one of the papers when they hit Toronto (and I see that you included a ticket stub from one of those two shows…boy is it a shock to see tickets prices back then). Later, I have memories of the group from the promo materials and cover art, up in record stores for B and B. Back then, and even now as an adult, I find that the look of the band appears somewhat thuggish on the album cover. I wouldn’t have wanted to meet them in an alley, haha. I don’t believe I appreciated Billy Preston until the last few yrs, after he died. I had no idea how highly he was regarded. He added so much musical flavour with his funk didn’t he? It was a surprise to find out he played on Saint of Me, which I think is one of their best songs, and very underrated, along with Out of Control. With so many stories of Keith and a knife I suppose I'm not surprised to hear he may have pulled one on Billy about the volume of his keyboards, but one would think that is something he should have taken up with the soundman instead. It’s shocking how much talent was used and looked at to be Mick T’s replacement. Most of them have never been “names” but may be well regarded by those in the know. Hopefully they had satisfying careers, albeit on a smaller stage. When I read a few yrs ago that the mobile recording unit was in Calgary that surprised me, which isn’t known to be a hotbed of music, or at least rock music as I'm sure some Cdn country musicians have come from there. It just seems to be an odd resting place for it. Maybe I will make it out there one day. The Lotus stage is truly one of the most iconic stages ever, and likely far ahead of its time for the attributes it had. But that is the Stones, always pushing the envelope and the industry to new heights. They seem to have been the first for the B stage, huge video screens, great video screens, blow up figures, concert song votes, maybe even special seating like pits or behind the stage balconies, etc. It’s still hard to fathom the phallic balloon, almost even now, at least in some spots. I don’t think I clued in that it was converted to a dragon head until now. 45 plus yrs ago when the phallus made its debut, seems like career suicide, but that’s them thumbing their nose at authority. In 1990, Madonna was threatened with arrest in Toronto for simulating masturbation on her Blond Ambition tour. She would have loved that too, but she backed down with her 3rd show at SkyDome. Thankfully the authorities in Toronto don’t blush as such things anymore. After that, one mayor got upset at the name the Barenaked Ladies chose. Again, we have matured since. I had never heard of or seen that Pirate Zemaitis guitar of Keef’s before. I agree with you that it was gaudy, but if it plays, that’s all that matters right. I'd also not know they had lines of smack on stage. The coke was obvious but heroin seems counterproductive to performing when there is a nodding out moment/period. I guess heavy users don’t experience that maybe (shrug). Even when high or strung out Keef can still be more articulate than most people. After your first two parts came out then the shocking and devastating news about Charlie. From what little has been said it sounds like he went in for what was thought to be a procedure where it was assumed he would recover and then something took a wrong turn. It must have been awful for the band to not be able to gather back in the UK due to various pandemic restrictions with international travel. I'm sure they will have something once the tour is over, perhaps in the new year. Before you were able to release Part 3, there was also the 20th anniversary of 9/11. It certainly isn’t as strong as it once was for me, but I can still recall vividly experiencing it a country away, in absolute horror, shock, revulsion, disbelief…. I can only imagine what Americans and New Yorkers still live with. North Americans have been extremely lucky that we haven’t had war on our doorstep like so many other countries, including other G7, G20 ones, but on that day, it was experienced here. I couldn’t believe how long P3 was at over 2.5 hrs. My eyes popped out. It reminds me of the length of time the shows were on the 75 tour based on the LA Forum show. Keith’s tshirt with Who the F is Mick Jagger, which I have seen before, reminded me of the novel I read a few decades or more ago as a teen, The Man Who Killed Mick Jagger. I hadn’t realized that the blind fan, Rita Bedard, whose name I didn’t know before P3, was from this tour. That is one incredible story, so thanks for filling in some blanks. The choice of Ronnie for the band was inspired. He is so underrated as a guitarist and has been not only a perfect pal and guitar bookend for Keith but also for Mick’s antics onstage. I'd not known any of that before and it’s a shame it wouldn’t come to pass. Sometimes you need to test an idea out first. Looks good but it seems obvious it would screw up the acoustics and sightlines for fans. I found it quite startling to see how Mick was so glammed up on this tour with makeup, and a bit on the 78 one as well. He does like to dip his toe into some trends, thinking it keeps the Stones relevant, when they should just keep on their own path. And his long hair was my least favourite look of his ever. You made mention of his singing style changing, I believe (I wrote these notes a few wks ago when I watched the final installment but didn’t put them into prose on a PC until now). I find that he doesn’t sing anymore on tour. He barks out lyrics. I'm sure it saves his voice although he has been forced to postpone shows in the last 10 years or so due to vocal issues. Anyway, I think the “barking” may have started on this tour. Certainly in 78 when they were showcasing Some Girls, with its punkiness, typical singing wasn’t a priority. I still am blown away by your collection or ability to source out live bootlegs and footage. I hope you have insurance and backups of your stuff. So much of what you show is new to me and I consider myself a well above average Stones fan. Clearly I have a ways to go. Your research is so under the radar and sublime. The Colorado State University footage was of interest. I wonder if this was the catalyst for Keith’s ongoing hate on for and annoyance with Elton. Come on boys, make up. It sure is something to see the tickets prices back in the day. I have to say, even the shows in 89 were reasonable. I cannot believe how tall and mature you looked as a 15 year old in the Catskills. Times certainly have changed. I remember even as an 11 year old, and certainly later, looking at the promo material for Black and Blue and thinking it seemed a bit much. Bondage and bruises…hmm. Even in the 70s that was out there. Now the band is self censoring. Is Mick being too corporate or sensitive when a meaning isn’t what others have labelled it? Considering slavery is the topic of Brown Sugar (and perhaps heroin to a lesser degree) I have to admit, the beat of it seems a bit to uplifting and boppy. All the band in 75 and 76, except Ronnie and Bill, looked quite a bit older than their age in my opinion. Keith had an excuse with his drinking, drugs and smoking but not sure why Charlie and Mick did. Those outfits on the 76 tour in Europe were rather colourful to say the least, haha Then the stories about Marlon being babysat by Mick and only having one outfit are interesting anecdotes. How Marlon made it to be an adult is something else; he is made of tough stuff. That was certainly quite a tale about Mick’s girlfriend’s boyfriend pointing a gun in Frankfurt. Wow. Hadn’t heard that one before, nor that Keith had unplugged guitars and fell over onstage but considering his addiction, they don’t surprise me. The Baader Meinhof story was completely new to me. Yikes. I hadn’t known Mick and Bianca had gone to the Montreal Olympics but considering Mick is a sports fan I shouldn’t be surprised. The Knebworth tale about not being paid is shocking. Outdoor concerts let alone festivals can be very challenging. I have to say I LOVED going to the SARS one held in Toronto on 2003; I didn’t go for the music but for the experience of being around 500k people, and I survived with great memories, plus I ended up making a friend from the UK who flew over with his two pals to see the show. I also enjoyed the experience of the last show I saw of the boys in June 2019 at their one Canadian show, north of Toronto. Partly it was seeing the band up close again, outdoors on a summer night, but also because my dad who was dying of cancer and who had less than a year to live, arranged for me to get to this out of the way venue as I hadn’t figured I would skip it due to logistics. That made it even more special. And now it’s the last time I saw Charlie as well. I can’t say I mind the stage props as much as you. I think the use of them is to give the audience more bang for their buck and considering the cost of tickets. But is that not a chicken and egg situation? If you didn’t have so many bells and whistles and we were just there to bask in your presence and listen to your music then maybe the prices would be lower. Make the stage look like a garage with maybe some decent outfits and lighting. That’s all we need. Love You Live hasn’t always been a go-to live album for me, but I wore out side 4 as a teenager, I think. I had always thought the second disc was all recorded at the El Mocambo in Toronto, my hometown, but only side 3 with two other songs on the release being recorded at Maple Leaf Gardens. As of now, Stones fans are likely rolling their eyes at Sir Paul’s comments about the Boys only being a blues cover band. I'm not sure why he felt he needed to say that. Whatever. The Beatles had fewer than 10 years under their belt and barely toured. The Boys have almost 60 and are a touring juggernaut. I will leave things with that, and once again I tip my hat at the incredible work you deliver to us. Take care and cheers, K (PS sorry for the length of these replies...you just put so much amazing material out there for us)

@@FlipSideCT And as a separate reply I am VERY excited to hear you will be dissecting Some Girls and it sounds like the El Mo incident and charity gig. With Toronto being my hometown (although I don't live there anymore, it is still less than 1.5 hrs away so I do get back a lot), if you need clarification about anything, let me know. I'm sure you have the Oshawa bootleg but I seem to also have an original review from that Apr 79 show in Oshawa. Cheers.

@@kathleenwilliamson5151 Wow KAthleen. a potent comment presentation. I read it all, and admired your fandom and appreciation for the Stones. Very cool to see and read! I really kept to top sources for gathering legit info. Plenty was new to me also and I felt the need to pass it on. As we see and learned, there is such a science and well thought out plan with them most of the time. There were/are many reasons for the disclaimers. When dealing the mass public, I try to diffuse as much as I can upfront. There is about 2-5% nastiness sent to me, and I try to filter that out, as you can imagine the work I put into this, they do not deserve to watch it for 1 min. I have experienced a more appreciative viewership as I posted these disclaimers and started removing those haters from posting. I just have a low tolerance for negativity. I will say, my Keith Toronto 77' is going to be enlightening.....at least for me.....I thought I would be coasting into Some Girls, but there was so much info on what happened and when/where. There was not one source that contained a perfect flow that I could follow. My sources are excellent so I compiled each one and pieced together the completed timeline along with other findings....up to the Paris studio start. I am sure you will enjoy. Thank you for your views and comments, I enjoyed them and appreciated your time to understand my details and what I brought to all. thanks!!

I agree with weeooh1-I’m a Stones fan and a historian so your work is fascinating to me. I’ve only seen the Stones a few times-81, 89, and 05-and I THOUGHT I knew quite a bit about their history but YOU sir are a living, breathing, Stones’ encyclopedia! You should talk with Ken Burns about a collaboration! 👍🏼❤️🫡

@@FlipSideCT yes I saw that…interesting, and it concentrated on the Stones rhythm section (AKA Bill and Charlie) which was long over due, but I think you’re right - The perspective of serious and informed fans like you is ultimately the most enlightening…in my view anyway :)

@@FlipSideCT The Rolling Stones along with Billy Preston, Ollie Brown and Stevie Wonder were replaced with lookalikes in 1976. Whatever I have to say about that pales into insignificance. The question I often ask when watching media from around that time is "Who knows?" Keith and Anita leaving the hospital with Tara are the real ones. The promo videos shot in Kiel were the real ones. I haven't seen evidence that the real Stones began the European tour of 76, but later footage of the tour is of the replacements. See I don't know if you are oblivious to this or you are a facet of the cover up. Must admit it had me fooled for decades so I should give you the benefit of the doubt, but if you rewatch the video, sure as day turns into night there are two different men shown as Keith.
