Stephen King is very talented, no doubt about it! I watched Rose Red for the first time when I was 11 or 12 and it absolutely scared the shit out of me and still does as an adult. Still one of my favorites along with Storm of the century. The film crew did a great job at making this movie as well. Sometimes the movies disappoints from the book but i think they did a great job with this one

I remember when I first watched Rose Red, the entire plot with professor Miller ended very oddly. In the beginning of the film he had a pretty prominent role and it faded out prematurely. Learning now that he actually passed away before he could finish this film makes it make sense. It makes me wonder how the movie would have ended if he didn’t pass away.

I've been watching The Haunting, both the 1963 movie, and the remake done in the 80s, I believe. There were very similar themes in both that reminded me of Rose Red. There is even a mention of the Winchester mansion. I loved both of those movies, especially the 1963 one, and I loved Rose Red. A very good movie.

If I get multimillionaire one day, I´ll call all these set designers and the remaining crew from these films (who are still alive) and build up a huge sort of Disneyland of movie sets, so Rose Red and the Goonies ship floating on the water and everything will be rebuilt to the tiniest details and small groups of people will be able to come in and experience memorable scenes and explore the sets as if they were in the movies. Don´t know why nobody in Hollywood had this idea already, would be paradise for enthusiasts!

I love the mini-series. Perfectly cast, filmed, etc. Sets amazing. Once you get past the beginning where the actors are selling the series, you get to interesting and less "ra-ra" info. I saw this back in the early 2000s when it was first broadcast. I bought it on DVD - but haven't seen it on streaming, and my DVD has been in storage for 10 years :-(. So disappointed that this is not on streaming media. I've checked Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Apple, AMC, & HBO Max. I finally found it here on KZread just recently. I'm sure it will be taken down again soon...

I love the movie, If only the two issues I have are the editing/color correction and the CGI was a victim of its time and budget. I used to work at the Winchester Mystery House. I never found it frightening or strange, but the grounds were more haunting. I used to love cleaning in the cold winter when tours were low and relaxing with coworkers in the stock rooms. Fun times.

So, does this mean Rose Red was based on a true story? I know the Thornwood Castle is supposed to be the location where Stephen King filmed his TV movie. It was also the location where the remake of The Haunting was filmed. Was the real Rose Red demolished like the heir said he was going to do? Lots of questions, no real answers..

Rose Red is loosely based off of the legacy/life of Sarah Winchester, and her 11-storey (prior to the 1906 earthquake) Victorian California mansion she built with the inheritance of her deceased husband, $1000.⁰⁰ usd (about $25‐30k adjusted for today/inflation), he invented the Winchester Rifle...

Stephen King wrote "Rose Red" as a loose retelling of "The Haunting of Hill House." He and Spielberg were working on a remake of it together- which eventually became the 1999 remake- but they couldn't pick a preferred way to remake the story, so they went their separate ways and King made "Rose Red." He was very open about it being a reimagining that blends his favorite elements from the original stories together and brings something new to the table.

Kayla Perkins I believe that was just a metaphor that one of the characters used. Ellen wasn’t a vampire. Just a ghost in the house that appeared to unsuspecting victims 😅 and basically the leader of Rose Red. The house ate people for power.

I heard that Stephen King was a bit of a bad dude when it came to "original ideas". Many people had sent him scripts to read over, only to find them released later in print with his name on them. He came close to admitting doing something of a similar nature in a documentary, but stopped short of coming clean and fessing up to it. Preferring to blame his bad behaviour on his alcoholism instead.

No, Stephen King has never admitted or been found guilty of Plagiarism. He has admitted to writing around 2000 words per day to remain a skilled and active writer, Rose Red was written by King solely as a TV movie. He was a teacher of English literature and once a struggling writer, more or less. Success brings jealousy from others. Stephanie Meyers among others, is guilty of Plagiarism, though not indicted by any law agency. Starquant states but offers no evidence, only slander.
