Technomages are still one of the most interesting creations in SF.

The series was never given a chance. I would have loved to see a 2nd season.

@@FlorinC1984 It was hamstrung by the network before it had even hit the screens with episodes shuffled around and way too much studio interference. Like Firefly it was never allowed to show its full potential.

Craig Jones I honestly use the "continuity" viewing order and it worked for me rather well considering the contradictions in the chronological order: War Zone The Long Road The Path of Sorrows Ruling from the Tomb Appearances and Other Deceits Racing the Night The Needs of Earth The Memory of War Visitors from Down the Street Each Night I Dream of Home Patterns of the Soul The Well of Forever The Rules of the Game

I will always have a love/hate relationship with TNT. I will always love them for allowing Babylon 5 to be finished but will forever hate them for aborting Crusade...

I really enjoyed Crusade. I was very disappointed when it got cancelled.

Another Sci Fi show killed by brainless network executives before it had a chance to get going. So much potential, just pissed away.

I really loved Crusade. I just wish it were given the time to develop and find itself.

It seems that whatever Joe touches (writes) turns into gold that becomes tainted (ruined) by the powers that be... For my part, Babylon 5 was my all-time favourite series (and it will probably remain so 'till my death), Crusade was a rough jewel that was never given a fair chance to develop - much like Firefly...

+Rudolf Trost Agreed! Great minds think alike my friend! Did you know that Straczynski is planning to remake Babylon 5 into a feature film? His reason is because he wants to do it the way he originally intended to do on tv, but never got the chance. Personally, I am against it because it is one of the best sci-fi tv shows out there that became the first series that was designated as a "novel for television" with a definite beginning, middle, and end. I think he should either remake Crusade, or focus on a feature film that focuses on "The Great Burn" or "The New Earth Chronicles" in which humanity had evolved into pure energy beings and become the new guardians of the universe, guarding and guiding the younger races. What do you think?

+Julian Schecter What he is planning is filling in the holes in Babylon 5 and start a franchise that will continue into the Crusade. Since so many of the original cast are gone over the rim, he has to reboot his story - which he also did during its 5-years run, first after Micheal O'Hare became ill, then to counter the 'powers' decision to add a pilot ace to the series and later to work around the decision to cut season 5. There are many who do not like the 'new' season 5 because it took place outside the Shadow War story arc. I say to these people, "You don't get the point of season 5: Straczynsky made something that was never before shown on TV - the Rise of a Galactic Empire." I, and I think many with me are more interested in what happened during the Crusade and in-between the end of that show and the Lost Tales. Your suggestions are, of course, very valid; but they have been done to death in other TV shows. jms was always about showing something we never saw before; I hope he continues on that path. Hell, I even read his comics and liked them to no end. The man has a sideways view on many topics. Take for example his run on Spiderman, a well)established character with a long history that he immediately made his own by adding z line to the well-known introduction," Peter Parker was a student who was bitten by a radio-active spider... jms added "but did the spider bite him by accident or was there a purpose?" It changed the whole dynamic of Spiderman...

+Julian Schecter If jms reboots Blake's Seven, it will reach a new audience. I know many younger people who are turned off by the cheesy-looking effects of the series and if it could be rebooted, a lot of the mistakes in the original series could be avoided. Furthermore, the story was not finished with that last gruesome scene where they all seemed to die; there are many stories about a surviving Avon and Vila and their further adventures that lead to the fall of the Galactic Empire. If done right, it could even surpass Babylon 5...

Before I respond to your comment, it is nice to know that you are also a fellow Blake's 7 fan too! You know good sci-fi when you see it. :) Based from what I currently know, JMS is not doing a reboot of Blake's 7, but yes, it would be awesome to see what he can do with it because he is also a fan of that show. However, he appears to be more focused on his reboot Babylon 5 feature film. Also, as I stated previously, there is no need for him to do a reboot of Babylon 5 because that story has already been told. Besides, unlike Babylon 5, Blake's 7 does not have the huge fanbase (at least not here in the US) compared to the UK, so a reboot of Blake's 7 does seem more viable and welcomed. I would love to see it come to fruition with a whole new interpretation, providing if it is in the right hands. Back to Babylon 5, originally, he was going to do a sequel to "The Lost Tales" with a storyline that focused on Garibaldi, but that got canned due to the WGA strike in 2007. Personally, I liked more the second story about Sheridan and Prince Vintari, even though I did enjoyed some of the philosophical discussions between Colonel Lochley and Father Cassidy on God and religion. What was your impression of TLT?

Yep, I agree with most of you. B5 was the best ever, and I'm a HUGE syfy fan. I'm almost 69 years old, seen all the tv shows and read all the books. I was completely addicted to B5. Well developed and brilliantly acted characters. And very diverse personalities. It had everything, especially brilliant writing! I was Absolutely infuriated when UPN tossed the show to TNT - I couldn't get TNT! I missed the rest of the series!. Had to wait for the reruns. Grrrrrr!I would take that show back in any other form. Interestingly enough, when the show was being dropped, SyFy network wanted it really bad but just couldn't find the funding for it, such a shame. The B5 Universe is immense and rich, creating a new arc wouldn't be that bad, this time have an extragalactic threat coming from the void, the blackness between stars. Should be interesting.

The music in this was awful, at least compared to B5's amazing scores. The acting was wooden too often and the sets/CGI were bland, especially the Excalibur. I hated the intro too. Negatives aside, there was a good foundation to build on and all the main characters were starting to come into their own. I was happy Lochley was brought back (she had much promise) and liked Galen, I always wanted more technomages in B5. I wish it had time to carry on!

Off key stuff is good when timed correctly. But Every. Single. Scene just grinds. And that intro, boring and AGAIN that music. Ugh. Could have been good. Suffered from the disease of "early 2000s"

He's right, having been spoilt with Christopher Franke's epic scores, the Crusade's soundtrack was somewhat underwhelming. However, Crusade had immense potential, sadly wrecked by production bosses' clueless meddling and their baseless assumptions about the show's lack of popularity.

The cast was so unique. I just wanted more and more and it got canceled way too soon. :(

personally speaking, I think the main reason this series never really took off is because the music. for some reason, the series never had the same kind of impact that B5 had, due to the music. sorry

So the ever-escalating demands from TNT executives for changes to the story had nothing to do with it? Those story ideas from people who never told an interesting story their whole lives were pure gold, that's your theory? The music was weird and took some getting used to. Big deal.

Studio bean counters are the absolute worst. Yeh it’s a business but gotta spend money to make money, this series had a large built in loyal audience from the jump and no doubt in my mind if it was given a chance to find its legs it would have been a great success

Crusade could have been great, had it not been for TNT's meddling. I still think B5 needs a proper follow up series though.

I love BAB 5, grew up with it, but Crusade kinda rubbed me the wrong way. It was a fine show but something was either missing or I expected too much to be in the old format. Still, damn shame they didn't continue, it would make a great point for a remake or reboot, that way the old BAB 5 still stands.

Just finished re-watching it. Some of the viewing orders are strange, luckily I used the chronological order this time, but still not quite right. Not complaining this time, I really enjoyed it regardless! I miss B5, and so sad that so many cast members have passed onto the rim.. Also funny and sad, to see all the B5 ideas in DS9 :) :(

I loved the show but the thing that killed it for me was the first show showing a conflict on earth from now and saying it was from there timeline other from that it was a good show.

If only jms didn't dislike crowdfunding we could get the rights to crusade and do a remake!

Babylon 5 was only ment to be 5 years Crusade was also to be 5 years but was change to be only 13 eps.

It was too bad Crusade got canceled and never fully developed into a series.

The b est episode was the last, it was excellent. Many other episodes were good as well. This did have a lot of potential, but the premise is its weakest point. A bio-weapon which took 5 year to kill everyone was a bit odd, but once you get over that it was reasonable.

I loved the show BUT I can't agree with JMS about the cgi . IMO it was far better in S04 from B5 than in Crusade

I think the connection with B5 was not done in the right way. There was no strong Drahk threat that would connect the viewer with the show. It was just a passive threat and some random Star Trek like visits to other worlds. Not interesting enough to keep the less fanatic B5 audience involved.

Yeah, I was surprised because her character has somewhat hard facial features.

TNT pulled the plug on this series before episode 1 even aired. It's too bad, I think they prefered to put their $ into airing "Witch Blade" instead.

I've read the problem was TNT figured out that the B5 audience wasn't watching anything else on TNT and the TNT core audience wasn't watching B5.

@@Scopper81 That's it in a nutshell (there was also some internal politics between TNT Atlanta and the TNT Los Angeles offices. The LA faction had landed B5 for the network)... The irony was that the actual ratings had exceeded their expectations when the episodes actually aired but by that time, it was too late to bring the show back. Sets had been struck and the cast had moved on to other projects.

I couldn't get into the show and I tried to watch it, but ended up not!

They should remake the whole Babylon 5 and crusade series since they have run out of ideas.

It was a good show but should have just kept Babylon 5 more.

TV exc have a long and hollowed history of canceling the good shows . I think they have sold out to the compation

Insufficient darkness in crusade. Too cartoonish. The darkness of b5 is what made it complex and captivating.

But the main ultimate villains in crusade and babylon 5 were the shadows. Which take a dive in season 4 and leave beyond the rim.

Space:1999 had an episode with a dragon, in name only, and it was 1000 times better, and 25 years earlier. That is still my favorite episode, now almost 45 years ago. That weird whirring sound, the creepy tentacles, the eye ..... man, space can be really fucked up sometimes.

I thought we all agreed never to mention this series ¬_¬

This looks really bad. And that logically means it would have had a fanatical cult following and some really weird cons.

It's easy to blame the studio for their interference and some of that is justified but everything about Crusade was just bad. Seriously JMS, a D&D model for the characters? How could you fall back to tropes after creating the rich characters of B5? The effects were often worse than those in B5s first season, the music (an 'artistic' choice to distinguish the show) was bloody awful, the ship and interior designs were bland. The sets, uniforms and props were amateurish at times; they re used props from Starship Troopers that just didn't fit in the B5 universe. The whole thing felt very, very low budget. So JMS cancels the show after just a few eps. Fine. But he goes on to create Legend of Rangers, possibly the worst garbage ever to be associated with the franchise. And then years later, Lost Tales which was more of the same. I loved B5 but there comes a point where you have to wonder if JMS is really the creative genius that people think he is....

JMS didn't cancel the show, TNT did. TNT had decided they didn't want the show after all, and just made it impossible to make the show with their more and more ridiculous demands. There's only a few things I didn't like about Crusade, the music and the grey uniforms being a couple of them. Mostly it looked like it had a lot of promise though. It had a rocky start, and the pilot episode demanded by TNT was totally unnecessary. But the hints given about the story arc that was about to be revealed made it sound very interesting indeed. The Drakh plague story being just a red herring, and the actual plot dealing with the fallout from the Shadow War and the Telepath War. I've read the unfilmed scripts, and the way the actual story arc was about to kick in towards the end of season 1 was just brilliant. Oh well.

The B5 was best show ever. Crusade was total crap. Boring, irritating cast and did I say boring? They should have continued the story from b5 not making another first season where nothing happens to only get warmer in second season. Did I said the cast was really bad?

too cheesy, bad cliche characters, little to no set, terrible music, bad acting, no direction. glad it was cancelled. would rather watch legend of the ran.... oh wait.. no i wouldnt.
