Great question leloodallasmultipass! I had to go ask the software team to get an answer on this. MakerWare will still slice the model outside of the printable area so when you go to print it there may be some knocking noises and a mess of filament at the edges of the platform. While it probably won't break your machine it's not something we really recommend doing. Maybe try cutting the edges of the model off in a 3D modeling program like 123D Design.
What if my model is just slightly too big for the platform and I DON'T WANT TO SCALE IT? Can I just print it if I don't mind the edges not being printed, or will that just confuse the machine and cause it to go skynet on me? I have been searching for this answer for a while... the answer must be somewhere but I haven't found it.
When I try to load my file (step file) onto makerware it doesn't let me but when I try another software it works but it doesn't generate g code on the software?
MakerBot MakerWare accepts OBJ and STL files only. If you have any other trouble be sure to send an email to support@makerbot.com
gotcha- tks. no prob, I am decent with Rhino but I just wondered how anal I had to be. glad I was too busy to just go for it last night;) I'll just shave off the edges with the Rhino "light saber tool" which totally exists so don't you dare call me out on that.
