Something I noticed a lot in these stories is that the horror comes from just being in the wrong place at the wrong time, so avoiding it is almost impossible. I think that adds to the cosmic dread

The reoccurring themes and incidents are so interesting. Theres the burning mentioned here. The rotten meat or corpses covered in that yellow rot. And the bugs for certain. Darkness is also a big thing the light bulbs bursting or being unscrewed. The library of course. And although there is no real tie the shapeshifting students remind me an awful lot of not Graham. Finally and most frequently, there's the eye, the difference between open and closed is interesting but it appears so so often. I just feel like I need one of the string boards to tie this all together

I completely forget their names lol. I think it's said in that episode that Gertrude died in that some church (or was it somebody theorising int he comments?) Jon gets a lighter last episode and records a transcription from a man cursed to burn in this one. Inexplicable burning happened earlier with those two men in the clinic and there was that woman bound to a tree that was burned to death at the same time the tree was. @ademort8124 @lordtoademort8124 There is no true occult anymore--there is a Wikihow to create a "sour jar" to hurt someone. The "sour" is to sour their life. The jar is just a containment device for the sympathetic items--like the photo. Based on this, the spell jars were transmitting the harm of the altar circle to the subject--Gertrude. Its possible that breaking the jar didn't do anything, the man may have doomed himself just by entering. Its also possible the jars were diverting the energy, lessening the full force, which is why he didn't immediately die upon approaching the altar surrounded by dead animals (unless the animals were trapped there by a deliberate sacrifice). And, although the man claimed he didn't think he could be MORE cursed by taking the photo, HE DIDN'T KNOW SHIT, and it is very possible taking the photo with him made him like the jars, a focal point for the already devoted magic. Sacrificing himself or Gertrude's death may have been what made the photo harmless from then on. EDIT: Reminder. If magic worked, more rich people would be dead. Don't waste your time.

Each time an artifact is delivered to the Archives it's Elias' doing and ment to facilitate marking the Archivist. If Jon had destroyed the table immediately the NotThem would have been released and likely started stalking Jon. Sasha may not have been killed and replaced by it, but it definitely would've tried to kill the Archivist as soon as it could. Season 1 Jon was even less prepared to deal with the NotThem then season 2 or 4 Jon. It took until Full Power Mode was unlocked for Jon to kill the NotSasha.

But I listened again and the woman -Amy- doesn't say anything about the table, only that he seemed to have changed the decoration of the flat. So, I see two solutions here ; either Not!Graham shipped it to Jonh with the B&H compagny, but that begs the questions as to why, and how come every living supernatural creatures hates the Archivist lol ; or Not!Graham got rid of it when he stole Graham's life, and B&H somehow got it, but then again why send it to John especially? He's the Archivist, sure, and that seems important. But he's not the "boss" around, that'd be Elias...
