I think he cast a spell on that card so that it can't be affected by any magic. Because why make that card why make that car so special. Because Alice is special to him.

@@dealinginfiction That was pretty much it. He sucked all the magic from the room like a vaccum and enchanted his final card to score the win. Not only does he miss Alice, but this scene happened in the final book of the series (albeit differently.)

Just like in the books

When remembering Q's magical journey started with actual sleight of hand magic, one can realize why his specialty turns out to be minor-mendings. He's the most gifted when it comes to physical manipulations in a small scale, just like one does when performing sleight of hand magic.

@@bip321boom Probably one of my favorite parts of that book was when we got to see the perspective of the students and they were kind of blown away because he had all this knowledge of magic from Fillory.

@@amazingmetapanda8166 As far as i can remember, he doesnt tell any students about Fillory. Its only after he's been kicked out and has played Push that he tells Pear.

This scene and the scene with Margo telling Quentin; "Margo Hanson : There's this thing about you, Q. You actually believe in magic. Quentin Coldwater : So does everyone. Margo Hanson : No. We all knows it's real, but you believe in it. And you just love it, pure and simple." (In my view) shows how Quentin was the only true "Magician" on the show, the rest of them were just powerful magic users, travellers, or gods.

the rest might be better kings or queens, or travellers, or better fighters, or better at magic, or gods, but lets not forget that, out of the entire main cast, Quentin is the only one who is an actual Magician, and this scene shows that perfectly.

True but the spell on the board game in the first season shows Q was one of the most powerful of the students the others were just introduced earlier he’s new and was able to make a black hole a spell Alice wasn’t even sure about

I just started reading the book recently, and in the book, Josh actually made the black hole! Everyone was drunk asf and he was like, "LOOK WHAT I DID!!" and they were all terrified

I loved this scene because TV Quentin finally got a moment to shine. Usually everyone else oneups him. S3 had a few good moments, but it was more of moral booster or lore keeper sort of thing, whereas everyone else was showing actual skills.

In an interview over the summer, Jason mentioned how Quentin was going to come back with the wisdom of 100 years as he spent in Fillory Past, something like that. Basically saying he was going to appear much more grown up.

@@TheMagiciansLoveX Yes but sadly he didn't appear to be more badass. Just ..grown up and well he wasn't exactly childish before so that didn't change much in my opinion. I really liked that he had a scene where he looked really skilled in something. The others tend to outshine him when it comes to skills.

@@ducklingscap897 yeah Quentin, went through a whole arc about questioning him self, being insecure and unconfident it was nice and very much needed to see Quentin feeling confident and contributing.

One of the coolest episodes, love that their returning to the real world. Q the card master doing what he's a god at

@@FirebloodDamian there were tricks , but the flicking was something Ralph did on purpose to mess with the others, apparently he's actually really good at it irl

This reminds me a bit of "Now You See Me" moment. "The first rule of magic-- always be the smartest guy in the room!" XD That's Q hands-down

This is Quentin’s strength. This is where he is most powerful. One-on-one, sleight of hand magic.

The game of Push is the one (1) time Quentin Coldwater has ever radiated top energy

The "Rules of Poker" card was great. "Give me whatever you want, I know one worse than that."

I absolutely love how word for word the book and the show are in this scene

I went absolutely crazy, they said a lot of 3rd book inspiration for this season, and this was an awesome rendition of the beginning of the 3rd book. This plus the Raven being there made me so gosh dang happy. Show continues to impress always improving.

Love when they blindside us with small out of order Easter eggs from the books. Couldn't wait to see Push in the show after I read the test chapter.

I liked the misdirect at the end oldest magician strategy in the book.

Well, you would have to master probability spells before and then be smart enough to beat magicians who have been practicing magic for decades and have played this game for all their life. Pretty difficult indeed.

Sucha cool scene, Quintin did his thing!

This was such a great scene! I loved seeing Q have the upper hand 😏

This was one of my favorite moments from the book I'm actually so glad that they put it in. Now that they have the coins and we've seen the bird I'm just hoping that they work in the briefcase heist.

The ocean eleven/ white collar episode of magician. This is the best quentin - smooth and smart

I never noticed Alice was on the Queen the first time I watched this

when i saw this i was screaming 'cause i instantly remember this scene from the third book

For those of you who don't know. Bobby Darin was the guy who wrote and sang, Splish Splash, and Beyond the Sea. So how the hell did those cuff links kill him? If you read his bio on Wikipedia and the events that led up to his death, I think it is safe to say that those cuff links are bad luck, like really bad.

@@TheMagiciansLoveXI'm guessing one of the doctors that operated on him was a magician who wore those cufflinks (at a guess they Abzorb bad luck but need to be periodically discharged) would ensure your surgeries always went well but if he hadn't discharged them recently or forgot well

his song, “Dream lover” and the Alice reference with the queen of hearts ?

I love how even when he had a chance to bring a King. He still allowed some fairness by using a queen. Ik it's also because of Alice's face but I like to read it as him giving his opponent some fair play

Its nice how they incorporate a game that you would think that people who don't have magic would only play. Like how harry potter books and films had their own games that were original but this incorporates normal nonmagic things into the show.

This is why I love this show

This is one of my favorite scenes from this season so far!

So that's how Kakegurui would look like if it were played for magicians

Quentin could be a dork and a sci-fi nerd most of the time, but he had his moments of ice cold awesomeness. Don't mess with the Q.

Seriously freakin' love this show, I will watch it again and again and again.

This is what I wanted to see from Quentin. Finally, Quentin gets to shine without any self-loathing or doubt.

Still one of my favorite scenes in the show.

Do book readers know who/what the "monster" ist that occupies Eliots body? No spoilers please. I am just curious how close the series is to the books because season 1 and 2 were not that close according to comments and they said they wanted to make it closer to the books. I am still afraid to read the books because everyone says the show is better and I don't want to ruin the story for me.

Who said they wanted it to be closer to the book version? The last interview I saw with Sera, she said it was "based on", and the books did provide some plots we might see develop but my impression was it was not going to be closely affiliated with the books, including book 3. Did I miss something?

@@lilymcallister9751 No I don't thinks so. i read it in an article and kinda interpreted it wrong. There is “so much” of Book 3 in the upcoming Season 4, he explains, and also in Season 5-because, as McNamara sees it, Grossman “brought everything to a chiseled, smashing completion. I’m really happy that we may be doing more of a strict adaptation this [next] year than ever before.” I thought this means they stick closer to the book but I couldn't find another source saying that soo I guess it was wrong.
