The Magical Island of Yakushima // Japan vlog 20

The final destination of my Kyushu trip!
Yakushima (屋久島) is a subtropical island off the coast of southern Japan. It's the rainiest place in Japan, which allows the ancient trees and moss to thrive.
I came to here to hike the moss forest that served as inspiration for the Ghibli movie, Princess Mononoke, and to see the native animals. It rained most of the time, but I still got to hike around, bathe in the seaside onsen, cycle around the island, explore hidden waterfalls, and see many monkeys and deer.

If you take the ferry, I recommend the Yakushima Ferry 2 from Kagoshima. It takes 4 hours, but it is the cheapest option. If you're a student, there's a discount too!

I read that princess mononoke took inspiration from this island and I feel you captured the essence of that perfectly! Your camera work was so good and immersive that it felt like I was there myself. Do you have an ig that you post highlights of your trips on?

@@midori20 My pleasure and it's all good! Tbh I grew up watching anime and Studio Ghibli films with siblings since really early 2000s and slowly became immersed with Japanese culture lol. Finding the time to visit and explore is a huge challenge (work and life in general), but I know I'll make it happen one day :)
