    I'm waiting for my transitions glasses to come, and I'm watching to see if it is as cool as it sounds, and it is! in the summer, there is a resort that hosts all kinds of concerts during sunset every week, and the sun affects my vision a lot. at the resort, you can play with outdoor toys such as frisbees and soccer balls while you're waiting for the concert to start, or even during the concert. I NEED these glasses so I can see just a little better at those concerts and when I play lightning at school.

    I have photochromic lenses AND magnetic snap on shades for those glasses for when in the car. I don't see why people complain about going back inside because they don't get very dark anyway, barely noticeable (to the wearer). As you can see she was still squinting when outside and the lenses were not nearly as dark as regular sunglasses. Better than nothing though.

    There are few versions of transition type lenses which operate better in different temperatures. Another words one transition lense type might get darkest in hot temps then it does when it's cooler outside. While another transition lense type will do the opposite.

    Transitions may not turn *quite* as dark as sunglasses. It depends on the level of UV light that's outside. But they can definitely get pretty dark in bright sunlight, so they do have the convenient 2-in-1 appeal. Thanks for your comment. :)

    I really wish we could get transition tint for our cars windows, during the day it would help a lot with sensitive eyes like mine, and at night we would be able to actually see the road and everything around us...Here in Oregon last I checked we could get a prescription for a light tint on the windshield but that's just not the same and wouldn't be useful at all at night. Perhaps someday technology will make it economically feasible for such things. Till then I think we need a pair of prescriptions for driving and one for outside the car. I'm just thinking of all my eye strain pain during summer cruising.

    I recently got a pair of Transitions Single Vision Asph Poly Photochromic Grey lenses from a major Lens Optical Store. I do like them, but mine just don't seem to get as dark outside and never received a certificate of authenticity as most people say they usually do. I'm starting to think I didn't receive the actual "Transitions" brand and maybe a lesser version. Would appreciate your feedback on the authenticity issue and whether the brand would make a difference in lenses being more concentrated with the treatment? I'm in Texas as well so the sunlight is very bright for mine not to darken considerably, more of a smokey light color.

    History LVr I am the optician at Friendswood Vision here and yes photochromic lenses from Transition Optical do come with a Certificate of Authenticity. However, in my experience working at various optical, the optician pretty much discarded them as sillyness so I wouldn’t be alarm if you didn’t get one, and you can always call the optical and ask for the exact brand that you got. Photochromic lenses including those from Transition Optical do have a break in period so it is possible to that it turn a little slower at first and you might a good 5-10 minutes in full sun before they turn fully dark in the first couple of weeks, after that it should be dark within a couple of minutes. If the issue persist, definitely speak with your optical as there might be a warranty issue on hand.

    You might have got the Transition Xtractive lenses which would does turn a little bit in the car blocking up to 50% of light transmission vs 80% from the typical sunglasses. It's not perfect but it's definitely a lot better than nothing, the down side to the Transansition Xtractive vs the normal Transition Signature 7 which is what we have is that they take much longer to turn back to clear and they have a a little bit of a tint even when indoor (around 10%). We typically recommended to our patient who already love Transitions, who spent a lot of time outside and want darker lenses, those who are very light sensitive eyes even in indoor setting, and those who have a little bit of commute that doesn't want to keep track of a pair of sunglasses. Let us know how you like them! -Hoan (Optician at Friendswood Vision)

  • @hoantrinh2816

    @hoantrinh2816

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Buzmoo, I am the optician and Friendswood Vision here. Technically, the transition lenses in its clearest state is still isn't as clear as a set of clear lenses....however, the different in light transmission only a couple of percentage point so you shouldn't be able to notice. We recommend having transition and a no glare coating for general use. The only time I wouldn't recommend transition lenses is if you are are one of those that have a lot of activity and work and night and sleep during the day...because for one thing, you don't go out into the sun often so no need to waste money. Number 2, a clear lens with a good Crizal no glare coating will give you the best possible vision at night since it has the best light transmission efficiency.

    Maryanne Moll Hi Maryanne, yes, Transition Xtractive does turn up to 50 percent dark in the car and while it is far from the 80 percent dark of a dedicated pair of sunglasses but it does help. In our video, we were talking about specially talking about the Transition Signature VII which is our most popular transition lenses. The Transition xtractive does have its place for sure but it does have its drawbacks so the we often recommend the Signature VII over the Xtactive. Thank you for stopping by. Hoan Trinh - why do you advise against the Xtractive?

  • @hoantrinh2816

    @hoantrinh2816

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@b1lf435 We found that the most popular complaints against transition lenses in general is that they don't turn back to clear fast enough which take about 5 to 7 minutes for the normal transition lenses. The Xtractive Transition take about twice as long so it's about 15 minutes before it turn pretty clear. For a lot of our patient, 15 minutes is a deal breaker. Also at it clearest state, the Transition Xtractive has a about a 10 percent tint which some people don't like. The biggest benefit of the Xtractive lenses is that they are a bit darker outside and do they turn a bit in the car so we do recommend it for patients who are light sensitive or they spend a a lot of time outside. Ideal patients who love their Transition Xtractive are building contractors, motorcyclists, delivery drivers who have to go in and out a lot :)

    For mobile phones and other digital devices, you would want to look into getting blue-light blocking lenses such as Essilor's Eyezen+ lenses, and/or anti-reflective coatings such as Crizal Prevencia. These types of lenses/coatings in glasses can block harmful blue light that's emitted from cell phones and other digital devices.

    Hi Xiaodong, I am the optician at FW Vision, and yes you can have both blue light blocking properties and transition at the same time. At a matter of fact, transition lenses themselves does have some blue light blocking property so it enhance the blue light blocking ability of the lenses so we highly recommended. I have Eyezen +1 lenses (blue light blocking lenses), Crizal Prevencia (blue light blocking no glare coating), and Transition lenses so if you want the ultimate blue light blocking lenses, that is my personal set up which block about 40 percent of the harmful blue light.

    New transition lenses should go back to clear after a short time. If you are someone who get's their eye's checked at regular intervals tinting & un-tinting process of the lenses won't be a issue. But if you are someone who keep's glasses for multiple year's meaning more then you really should. In that case transition lenses can form a slight permanent tint to them meaning they wont go back to completely clear anymore. But that does not mean the transition part of the lenses won't work anymore.

    As an optometrist i'm a bit surprised that you yourself prefer to wear transition glasses rather than simply having regular clear prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses for when you're outdoors. You I'm a retired optician and I honestly never recommended anyone to get transitions for the very reasons you not only mentioned but even showed in your video. Most people's main need for sunglasses is for driving on sunny days, but as you pointed out because your car windshield has UV protection and the UV rays are what cause the glasses to darken. So really transitions don't work very well at all for be prescription sunglasses when it comes to driving. Also even being out in direct sunlight your glasses really didn't get as far as sunglasses really should be. I could still see your eyes pretty well through your lenses. Also they seem to take quite a while to change back to clear after going inside which may not bother you but other people don't seem to like that at all. Then the added cost of transitions also comes into play as well. It really isn't that difficult to change from regular glasses to prescription sunglasses. Now to be fair for someone that works outside everyday then yes I think transitions are a very good choice for that person. I think your review of transitions was very fair and everyone should decide what works best for them. This topic seems to have generated a lot of reactions from people.

    They don't look like they block very much sun from your eyes you are still squinting a lot they're better than nothing but I would definitely say they do not do the job of sunglasses

    James Ramputi hi James, I am the optician at Friendswood Vision here and also the cameraman for the show lol. Yes in our particular footages, the lenses hasn’t turn completely dark because we weren’t outside that long. What you saw was film live and she just walk out from the offfice....if we were to film it again, I would have her talk a bit more since it does take a couple of minutes for the lenses to turn dark, we were out there for like 45 second. The Transition Signature VII lenses can block up to 80 percent of light in the right condition (in full sun at like 80 degrees or lower) which is on par with a lot of sunglasses. But yes, if you like dark sunglasses, transition lenses aren’t quite as dark especially in condition that’s less than full sun.

    That is false I know this cause the glasses I was using was single vision lenses which has transition. I bought it like 10-12 years ago which was the last time I got my eye's checked until last week. Now I got new semi-rimless glasses which has lined-bifocals lenses with transition. Again my old glasses are 10-12 years old and the transition part of the lenses still work's. But the lenses does have a very slight permanent tint to them so they don't fully go back to crystal clear.

    1:35 no they have not turned into sunglasses, they are a little bit tinted at the most. The real magic of transitions is, they stop working. If you want to turn your prescription glasses into to sunglasses, buy a clip on or have them made up as sunglasses.

    She talks about all these diseases you can get from UV light, but her lenses are really small. That's not the best protection for her eyes...
