Bless your heart Adrian. The moment I started this vid I remembered this song and can't believe it never occurred to me to learn it and now I absolutely have to. And since a few songs in my repertoire are in open E, it's absolutely perfect. Many thanks for the unique stuff you do.

By far the biggest benefit of playing in Open D is that it has so much less stress on the guitar neck than say, Open E. & You can always go up to Open E by using a capo on the 2nd fret.

Hi--you didn't actually ask me, but I just bought an acoustic after playing only my two electrics for years. I knew nothing about them, but a @PaulDavids had a couple videos about acoustic shapes and tonewoods which helped me a lot, and then I ran across a bunch of excellent Martin demo videos from @MaurysMusic. I ended up ordering a left-handed copy of Adrian's Martin 00-15m from Maury's which arrives today! Highly recommend these videos for any acoustic novices such as myself.

No one did more with open D tuning than Berry Gibb of the Bee Gee's. How many of those songs have a basic form and sound around strumming of chords in open D. Take away the lead guitar, and all the fancy instruments and the basic Bee Gee's sound is chords strumming in open D. s s
