I was today years old when I learned I could drag a layer mask to another layer by clicking and holding option while I clicked on the layer mask and dragging it to another layer. Thank you Phlearn!

Not exactly a keyboard shortcut for creating new layer mask. Much quicker to just click on new layer mask icon.
