The Machine

Фильм және анимация

A young man is approached by an old man claiming to be a time traveler.
So here is the tale of how this movie got made. After starting the San Diego Sci Fi Filmmakers group in 2009, a group of us (Phil Roberts, Jason Lethert, etc... )decided to make a feature film. Then a second one.
During filming of the second one, I told my Jason that we should make a few short movies to fill in our down time. He agreed.
That night I wrote an 8 page script called The Machine.
It was a story I had been wanting to do for a while, and the original premise was that a young man finds an old man lying dead in a time machine, still clutching the keys. He takes the keys and starts gallivanting around the universe. In the end, we discover that he was the old man all along.
Paradoxical? Absolutely, and that was what made the idea so intriguing. Jason and I tossed the script around for a week or two until it became what you just watched. Its not the greatest, nor was it meant to be, but it enabled Phil and I to create an ever expanding universe (check out The Interview and The File short movies).
And I cant wait for you to see whats coming.

Great example of a "bootstrap paradox", where the time machine is the paradox. Since he gave it to himself, it was never created. It just was. One of my favorite time travel movies, which contains a bootstrap paradox, is Somewhere In Time. The pocket watch is the paradox in that movie.

Exactly, it is yet another poor ending. You know I have been laid up with an injury and went through movies like crazy . SO many have no endings and leave you unsatisfied. The comic book movies consistently do not develop characters and also leave you in the lurch . They are already counting profits from the next sequel. This story had promise but just pulled the plug and gave up.. haha .. Too bad.

I, too, am sad to hear of the passing of Danny Morris. His family & friends are in my prayers. I have many questions about this great story & would love to see its continuation. As Zane Leonard & lonewolf9390 said, this really brings to mind the Doctor & the TARDIS. down to the key and the ornate stopwatch. " Its bigger (on the inside?) than you can imagine."

One thing wrong. Time does not work like most films depict. If you could make a time machine, it would remain stationary in a W, X, Y, coordinate Z, with W, X, Y, Being the 3 dimensions, while Z being time itself. Since we know the earth revolves about it’s axis, while traveling about the sun, which is traveling about the solar system, which is traveling about the galaxy, which in turn is zipping through interstellar space, any particular spot on earth is never in the same spot for very long, & this is not even taking into consideration that the universe is expanding at an accelerated rate. So, if you was to use such a machine to time travel, even for a few seconds in either direction, chances are high you would end up in the cold barren reaches of space, since everything about you is whizzing by constantly, while your coordinates remain the same.

No. The center remains the same Just like flying in a jet with a ball. You can throw it forward and back. It travels with the plane. At same speed. If you travel in time. Space is also moving You don't stop moving. Also like a glass of water in a car. It remains level because it's same speed

"premise was that a young man finds an old man lying dead in a time machine, still clutching the keys. He takes the keys and starts gallivanting around the universe. In the end, we discover that he was the old man all along." Paradoxical? their is no dead man, no time machine, no gallivanting, just a typically rude yank in a failed state living with a black girl who resents him, then an old bearded hippy who claims to be him and gives him a key while siting on a park bench. we here a lot about the black girl's work live, but neither have anything to do with the story. It would have been a lot better if he had stuck to the description.

The character Eric is not a nice person. I can't see him following the 4th law - 'always be kind' His attitude to the man is appalling. He doesn't look at him for a long time, when he is speaking to him. The film promises better things to come but the young man has a lot to do to improve his acting. Good luck with all your plans. I wish I was able to make a film like that.

Warning, the premise is not new. Dozens of time travel stories have similar subjects such as an older self travels back in time to warn the younger self or to give him something (i.e. an object or advice). The problem with many of these YT videos is that they are mostly 1st chapters with cliffhangers and no middles or conclusions. First chapters typically have lots of exposition to set the stage for what's to follow: build a mystery, introduce characters, pose conflicts, and to get the ball running. If you like starting stories but not finishing them then you will like this video. Notice all the thumbs down....they aren't necessarily because the story is bad, just severely incomplete just as it was getting interesting.

I have a theory about time travel. It works but it is useless. You are in TIMELINE A and go back. As soon as you arrive in TIMELINE A of the past the timeline splits. You are now in TIMELINE B. You can do anything you want and it will not have any effect on TIMELINE A. OK, now you jump forward but one again as soon as you arrive in TIMELINE B of the future the time line splits and you are now in TIMELINE C. Everytime you jump you create a new timeline. You can never go to the same timeline twiced. You do not have to worry about a paradox because it is impossible to create one. We will never meet a time traveler for they are forever lost in time. So I say that time travel is possible but it is pointless and worthless. The only thing it may be good for is getting a new start on a life that was messed up.
