I'm a BMW Fan boy, great lap record 🎉🎉well done BMW M division... I think BMW would get sub 7 minutes lap records if they work on Aerodynamics. BMW cars already have great mechanical grip so if only they do aerodynamics like the Porsche 992 gt3 rs and the new mustang gtd it will be a great car that will break and hold records for a long time

@@timothy6049 A CTR S Grade did this a second slower. BMW's main competition is Mercedes and Audi, and the RS3 was faster. Despite having AWD, the RS3 weighs less, and is down on power over the M2. This is a second slower than a 500hp Z28 Camaro from 2013 (10 years ago). The M2 weighs 3,800 lbs now, and is basically a SWB M4 with the same weight. Nothing special here.

Actually do u really know what compact is? It’s about fitting a a lot in a small space, so if it’s weighs even more that means it’s even more compact, definitely makes it a worse car but compact doesn’t mean light weight

That's why this is no longer an M2. An M2 is supposed to be a handful to handle - that is its character. This new version is quick but doesn't make it the best. Weighs more than a previous gen M5. BMW have the ingredients all wrong for this latest car (notice I didn't say M2 because its not one).

@@DannySarbs I had a manual 2023 Supra I didn’t like it Toyota doesn’t know to tune the suspension It was too twitchy no confidence while driving I bought because it seemed like the best BMW light small b58 sub 60k in reality it’s only good if you want to go fast in a straight line which it did made a lot of muscle cars mad

The grip is all to do with advancements in tire technology, BMW with their 1.8 Tonnes behemoth of a compact sports coupe didnt do their best

I like that the M2 in the bottom right is looking at the red dot most of the time

You can tell a great driver for making time look… easy and fluid between turns. Also great job BMW, for making a car that can be a daily driver AND beat yesterdays super cars.

But the suspension feels like shit on the road exactly because manufacturers like BMW tune the car for Nordschleife lap times and not for every day comfort. I bought a 2020 M2C but the ride was terrible, I sold it after only 5,000 miles. The older M cars were far more comfortable. The Nordschleife lap time tuning is ruining modern sports cars.

Tire size and power are the biggest differences for that lap time. Still a hideous rendition of an M car. I would take an f87 m2 over this a million times over. I own one anyways.

Driver was Jörg Weidinger - no date provided on the official Nürburgring website, which is unusual. According to BMW it was some day in april.

If you slow the playback to 1/2 or 1/4 and watch the brake and throttle bars, you can really see how he uses trail braking to max effect!

Always been curious with these new BMWs, especially M models, what is the thumping sound on upshifts particularly the higher rpm upshifts? May be a dumb question but certainly sounds different then other cars.

wow very impressive speed! I am wondering about not hitting red line on upshifts but maybe the curves show that isn't necessary. in that way pretty low stressed result. congratulations ///M for such a heavy car! awesome!

I along with many other people do not agree with the way M is going with their designs and just their cars overall, but the M2 is an exception. It looks really weird, but it’s pretty cool. And this lap is very impressive too.

When was this recorded? It appears that it was last fall or maybe early spring? For a small car, it is as heavy as a M4.

Suspension was set to "SPORT". This mode is optimised for the Nürburgring Nordschleife, You would use "SPORT+" e.g. for the Nürburgring Grand Prix race track. Engine mode was also set to "SPORT" because of the linear power application.

Mostly tires made the difference between the Lambo, and @@B__L I think you mean 1 second slower. The Honda CTR S Grade did it in a second slower using the same tire (MPSC2) and some light weighting (probably less than 50lbs), but it really goes to show what 800lbs less weight can do for handling. Audi RS3 was faster too, which says a lot considering it is AWD and the M2 is not, yet the M2 is heavier. Back to the drawing room boys.

Did they ever get the steering wheel back in front of the driver?

The gauges for the data logger look 100000x better than the awful cluster that comes in the car.

Thankfully the car runs better than it looks.

The version of the M2 in the Thumbnail looks like the car the M2 was destined to be. What we got looks like someone described it on the phone.

Is this a stock M2 or has it been modified in any way from what we would pick up from a dealership? Impressive, regardless!

Google type r nurburgring cheat. It's been pointed out by numerous experts that Honda likely ran a modified car to achieve that time.

The Civic Type R was actually a factory modified Type R S Grade that is stripped in the interior and is lighter than the regular Type R. It doesn't even have an infotainment system. And then you have a Civic that you spent over 50k on.

As these guys said, the civic wasn't stock. The CTR posted within 1 mph of a 400hp PDK Carrera 4S on the long straight. Sounds like a lot of extra boost to me!

What a time. BMW still delivers raw numbers Even though zf 8 speed is a great piece of equipment you can clearly see a noticeable shift lag in the track setting. It's a shame

The audio being out of sync w/ the on screen tach is a bit odd from such a large company. Cool car and track driving though.

This car is amazing, but the people that drive this track are something else. Like these dudes do your best lap on the sim but in real life. Like what?!

Very impressive. Sacrifice car's weight by adding half of M4's parts and with that ruining the whole idea of the 2 series just to beat a 15-yo 997 is a true testament.

I wish you guys brought back the e46 m3 GTR as a 50th year anniversary edition that would of been so cool

Mmmmmmmmmmm….. Amazing how fast the Tach climbs; lots of quick response power on tap! Trying to tell if the driver is a left-foot braker. Don’t think so, cause both Throttle and Brake Graphics don’t indicate at the same time. Also, never got to 8th gear on that last straight; must be too tall to be useful for racing. Great vid BMW!!
