I'm 61 & grew up on I Love Lucy, but this is the FIRST TIME I've watched Lucy & Vivian in "The Lucy Show." I'd seen their iconic scene in which they install a shower, but never whole eps, so I started at the beginning of the series & watched S1 & S2 on YT & am now this far into S3. Vivian leaves after S3 & I'm dreading seeing her go.

Please, please STOP calling Vivian Vance, "Ethel"!! Ethel was an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT CHARACTER! THIS character is Viv, NOT Ethel. How can you watch these vids & not hear them call her, "Viv," over & over?! These 2 characters have NOTHING TO DO with Lucy & Ethel from "I Love Lucy!" They are different characters with a different relationship, different backstories, etc.

@@DonnaBrooks Lucy is the same basic character, someone who is well-meaning but gets herself into wacky situations, which is why she rechristened herself Lucy. Viv, here, is the same basic character as Ethel, a more sensible friend who usually gets roped into Lucy's odd situations but, on occasion, is the protagonist. The only differences are that Viv is dressed and coiffed better, but sadly, there are no male leads in The Lucy Show, and so no hilarious battle-of-the-sexes interactions.

Hi there! Just wanted to say the actress' name is VIVIAN Vance, not Ethel. Ethel is just the name of Vivian's character on I Love Lucy. Her character in this show is named Viv. So you can say Lucy & VIVIAN are the best onscreen friends or comedic duo or whatever. But in THIS series, neither the actress nor the character is "Ethel". You wouldn't call Tom Hanks, "Forrest" for the rest of his life just because Forrest Gump is probably his most iconic role.

I loved The Lucy Show & Here's Lucy, and watched them both when new, but preferred Here's Lucy.Alot of current stars guested on that show.In The Lucy Show,Vivian Vance and Lucy acted about as they did on I Love Lucy.Lucy worked for Mooney at the bank, but mainly on the colored ones.I don't know why Vivian Vance got off the later seasons unless she got ill.The colored ones were the best. Some people get the two shows confused, but they were two different shows. Here's Lucy lasted several years, parts of two decades. It was on Monday night...wonderful memories of childhood.I never missed it.I liked the blue counter and blue tile in Mooney's kitchen. It reminded me of the kitchen counter in the Cunningham kitchen on Happy Days.

Actually, Here's Lucy lasted six seasons and it was the least favorite in terms of production and writing and in ratings; the show had it moments but it just wasn't has good.. Vivian Vance left the 'Lucy Show' because of contract negotiations fell through in 1965, she later agreed to make guest appearances..Lucy wanted to end the series after Vivian was no longer on the show but CBS convinced her to continue.. All The Lucy Show episodes after season 1 were filmed in color but CBS continued to broadcast them in Black and White until 1965. Although the writing quality went down after 1966, the ratings want up after the show's content changed and the Lucy character moved from Connecticut to California and she became a bank secretary to Mr. Mooney and the writers dropped the family element.

The bank was closed on Saturday, those were simpler times, the money went farther back then. At the grocery store one dollar could buy more, a gallon of milk was around 40 cents and a loaf of bread was around 20 cents, a pound of hamburger meat about 60 cents.

Always climbing around, installing showers and getting stuck, being glued to the basement wall, falling into the chimney, roller skating, driving fork lifts....you name it, Lucy tried it . Vivian Vance was born in 1909. Lucille Ball was born in 1911. "I Love Lucy" was 1950-59. and "The Lucy Show was 1961-67. So, they were in their forties on I Love Lucy. And they were in their fifties on The Lucy Show. They were older than you think... and still doing very physical comedy. Think about it..."Lucy and the Contact Lens" was in 1964... Lucy and Viv climbing thru a little doggy door on the floor, into Mr Mooney's kitchen. Ages 52 and 55. Not just climbing, but perfect timing, perfect everything, full makeup, cake in the face, never out of character... Respect....

Well, hopefully it was not real chocolate, but something else that was safe to eat. Any dog that is trained to be an actor is valuable & would be protected by knowledgeable trainers, but this was before the Humane Society started monitoring the treatment of animals in movies & on TV & before the public knew that chocolate was toxic for dogs. I was in my 40s before I first discovered that grapes are toxic for dogs. Now there's a whole list of houseplants to avoid if you have cats & foods that shouldn't be given to dogs. We keep discovering new things about plants, animals, the human body, etc.

@@caroldannenberg9778 OMG, a cake wouldn't cost $5 in 1964!! It probably cost 1/10th that! Gas was only 25¢ a gallon when I was a child in the '60s. We used to have "cake walks" at fairs where people would pay a nickel (5¢) to walk in a circle around the music stage until the music stopped & whoever was at the designated corner when the music stopped won the cake. You'd have to have 100 people in a cake walk to reach $5. That's a lot of people for small towns & rural areas. Most of the world's population now live in cities, but back then, MOST of the U.S. population lived in rural areas, small towns, & farming communities. It was an entirely different world.

A woman could make a living out of being a housewife, or homemaker and be with the children. It only took one income, and that supported a family of five comfortably. A new home cost around $15,000.00 dollars, a new car $2,000 dollars and a family vacation around $500.00 dollars. The vacation was usually to visit the Sequoias in Northern CA. This included the hotel room, the cost of gas to drive up there. A 10 day trip, with the family, and make family memories. This gave mom a break from the doing laundry and cooking the family dinner.

  • @DonnaBrooks

@@caroldannenberg9778 Wages were lower, but the point is that prosperity was more UNIVERSAL than it is now! Labor unions were strong. Taxes on the rich were very high. These were policies that Eisenhower & the GOP of the time supported. There wasn't the huge wealth disparity that we have today, with people working full-time having to live out of their cars, while entitled brats inherit daddy's money & don't work a day in their life. Life was more economically fair & the Democratic Party was the party of Labor, of the working people. Now they don't give a crap about working people. I grew up in this era with my mom being a housewife & my dad working lots of overtime in a factory. Back then, products were built to LAST. They were also built to be REPAIRED. We darned socks, changed our own oil in the car, picked wild berries, & canned food. We were way more resourceful & self-sufficient & there was less waste. Now our economy is based on cheap disposable crap, built-in obsolescence, & marketing that convinces people to buy more than they need, to go into consumer debt, & to buy new things before old things wear out. So all these factors led to a society in which families WERE able to live off one income & were able to save money for major purchases. We saved up money & Dad rolled over his vacation time sometimes for 2-3 years so he could take it all at once & we could go on road trips. That's because we saved money by doing so many things ourselves & by not paying $5 for a cup of coffee or paying for cable TV or internet or smartphones.
