I often used to go to the Rex as a teenager in the 70s. Fond memories.

Went to the Ritz as a boy in the 50s, still remember the cigarette smoke curling up in the light from the projector and the smell of women's perfume. Migrated to Aust in 1957, still have strong, fond memories of the time.

I was born on Paulet Rd., Manor estate and saw The Wizard of Oz at the Manor cinema during WW2. We moved to Handsworth after the war when I turned 7 and transferred my allegiance to The Plaza cinema. On Saturday mornings we used to go to 'The Darnall Dick' for the kids shows.

ABC was the one I went to as a child, every Saturday morning, good times.

I remember going past the Ritz building, watching it slowly deteriorate. Then coming home from a 5 year stint in Cardiff to see that it had gone.

Bloody brilliant I tried getting into the Ritz and Adelphi a few times when they were abandoned, to no avail 😂 sad the Ritz is gone now. Beautiful buildings

There was another one on the pond road on arbourthorne

used to love sat afternoon in manor ( kids afternoon)

There used to be loads in the early days 30s 40s 50s 60s and 70s since vhs came out in late 70s cinemas started dying out in the late 80s and with main ones in towns city's or big shopping centres

Sadly those historical buildings have been taken for granted and most are relegated to the scrap heap .They should be restored and kept alive for today's audience who know movies on their telephones. Keep these landmark. Restore them . When we lose Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Quentin Tarantino the world should mourn because these men worshipped cinema

There was one on arbourthorne to called the carlton cinema not far from the manor one.

darnall had 2 cinemas there was 1 across the road just a little bit down from the industry pub on darnall road....we used to go there as kids in the 70,s

Three - Little Dick, Lyric(opposite the Industry) and Balfour!!!

What about the ABC cinema where Argos at Angel Street in the city centre and the one that was on To The Wicker Sheffield.

I live just up from the rex, didn't realize?
