i miss my old home town, i remember it vividly as a child right down to the rainbow coloured door handles of the c&a building int ole in road to sliding down the bits at the side of the stairs inside the crucible. I feel i was so lucky growing up there. I still hold the place close to my heart sheffield is a very special place to me. Ive watched some recently videos and i can spot some things that havent changed but its so different now.

Much like the rest of England things were so much better in Sheffield back then. It’s incredible how many places are crumbling to nothing right in front of our eyes. So sad to see a country get so much worse steadily throughout my life. Where will it all lead to in the end. God help us.

Excellent video, if a little short. Sheffield was much better then in many ways, less pedestrian ways, less students, better parking and many of the old stores etc still there such as Walsh's, Cockaynes ( AKA Schofields ), Redgates, Crazy Daisy, Fiesta etc etc. No Sports Direct, coffee bars and such.

Due to a lack of Vision, of valuing and maintaining the brilliance that was - the hold in't rd as an architectural modernist phenomenon & cultural asset - Sheff City Council filled it in. There was a more lucrative opportunity looming with Meadowhall shopping complex.

@@harrytheaker meadow hall reason makes a lot of sense. A new bigger project with capital behind it must have turned heads. @@SheffieldVideos City centre full of druggie homeless people and a council that cares zero. Look mate I have been a Sheffielder for nearly 60 years so I know what I am talking about. Lack of investment, crumbling empty buildings, e vapor shops, noodle bars nothing useful or classy here. The good old days have gone forever. No mention of mentally ill people walking the streets with no one to help them get back on their feet. You're joking, right? Lewis and Debenhams and Woolworth are all gone forever. Small pockets of Sheffield only survive where the £50 millionaires live so how can you say not really. It's a NO BRAINER. It's a socially deprived city and the situation is only going to get much worse. 100 years into the future and possibly imagine the overcrowding then if you have the insight which I doubt.
