An amazing video. It’s a shame that no one from these locks (employees}, are not around to fill in the blanks and questions. Thanks for the video, Darren. Cheers buddy.

That's an excellent video, even if there's pretty much no trace of what you were showing us! It's amazing how much things change in only 30 years.

Really enjoying these videos, finding them fascinating and also a bit sad that the old canal and locks have been filled in/demolished. Just think about the time and work that would have took to build them and also the support it would have given the local industries.

Worth noting the 'new' lock at Lemonroyd is so deep because the Kippax locks were removed in the reconstruction. It had to cope with the fall of both the old Lemonroyd Lock and the Kippax Locks combined. Lemonroyd is therefore one of the deepest locks on the canal system.

Hi, My great grandfather and grandfather were lock keeper at Kippax and my mum lived there. When you are in the trees and you say you are on top of where the lock stood you are about 15m out, the raised embankment you walked along is where the canal was so the lock would have been there. Regards, Kev.

This video is a great help to my understanding of the old River Aire and Navigation. I plotted some of this route when I discovered the old lock in St Aidans nature reserve.

such a shame! they've ruined it...a beautiful picturesque place turfed over, covered in marshland and brambles, all in the name of "nature reserve!" Should've left it as it was and preserved it.
