I kinda theorized that Rebecca's arrival was almost from where it left off in Henry Gets the Express where Gordon could steam up at the right time and Henry took his Express in one day, and he was sent back to pulling it again - though this could be a prequel to when Rebecca arrives like despite Gordon doing well, STH knows that he probably needed more time to get ready and couldn't handle the Express by himself, which would've led for him to buying Rebecca and Gordon not happy about it at first but later warmed up to her eventually.

Hot Take about Season 21: I actually prefer Rosie in red. Not only is it appropriate with her name but I love how it actually looks like something you could see on a railway. It strangely gives me LMS red vibes.

I use to think she looked good in red too, but when Ian McCue revealed not long ago that the real reason they made Rosie red in the first place was literally just for comedic purposes with James, i realised it was all a sham, and her original pink livery suddenly became so much better. By having such a bright and unique paintwork it actually helped her standout as a character in my opinion, her being red now means she just blends into the background like any other engine and doesn't have nothing special going for her at all. We were pretty much hoodwinked into thinking they changed Rosie because of stereotypical reasons when that wasn't the case at all... it was quite literally just for a laugh. Pink Rosie >>> Red Rosie.

I really wish that the unfriendly elephant episode was about Henry. It would be SUCH a nice reference to Henry and the elephant and it would be a nice thing to see that Henry's afraid of elephants since his incident in the past

7:01 I feel like the seagull going past the back of Bradford could've been a shot with Toad, due to his fascination with the sea and also where it specifically passes on screen.

What’s funny is that I’ve been working on a BWBA rewrite and started with Season 21 by folding most of the cut episodes into it… at least, from a conceptual standpoint. “Triple Header” and “Super Rescue” adaptations combine with a HEAVILY reworked “Chucklesome Trucks” (in which Gordon convinces the trucks to be extra troublesome for Rebecca since he knows her wheelslip will make stopping more difficult… with disastrous results) and a rewrite of “Gordon and Rebecca Coming Through”, “Thomas’s Animal Ark” gets a Donald and Douglas cameo thrown in in place of the elephants helping Thomas through the snowdrift, “An Engine of Many Colors” is added back in, and “Rosie is Red” now acts as the season finale.

It makes sense how some of the better written episodes of the BWBA era were intended for season 21.

Seasons 20 and 10 had 2 extra episodes for reaching a milestone

I have a theory for why Pinchy was in the Rebecca's dream as a cameo: Diesel 10 was gonna make one more appearance and this third Rebecca episode is where they probably got the voice actor who voiced him in both the final cut of Day of The Diesels and The Missing Christmas decorations and his render too

I honestly think Rebecca having four or five episodes in one series doesn't sound like overkill at all, I would've loved for a character arc similar to series 1 present in series 21

Oliver and Toad could’ve been in the animation, they might’ve switched their models with Samson and Bradford. That is something that can be done in animation, even when one is finalised, models can be switched in an early stage and the animation would be kept.

Though it's a tad bit nitpicky, I wanted to say that headkeeper Jack was a character prior to series 22. He first appeared in (I think?) Season 17. He just wasn't named until Season 22

That it’s supposed to be showing “kids can help make the world a better place” but I think showing them decorate the coach rather than using sharp tools would’ve been a better idea

I have a few things to say: I’ve been seeing lots of people thinking that in Samson and the Fireworks, Oliver and Toad’s models were swapped out with Samson and Bradford's, as it's possible to do that with CGI animation. I believe the story behind that is that in the entirety of the BWBA era, Joe Mills only voiced a passenger in Confusion Without Delay. I’m suspecting that for whatever reason, he wasn’t willing to do any more voice work for the show after that, hence Oliver and Toad’s models being swapped out. Of course, it’s been confirmed that Seeing is Believing was never intended for Season 21, but something tells me that since Merlin was a very popular character, Andrew Brenner wrote the episode during that Season and some of the animation was already completed, hence the absence of the road near the Vicarstown Bridge. I wonder if maybe the last two missing episodes of the season were never actually refitted into BWBA episodes. If Chucklesome Trucks had Rebecca defying all odds by not getting into an accident with the trucks, I imagine maybe a part two was planned where they actually caused her to crash. It also might be a bit of a stretch, but I wonder if maybe a Pack episode was also planned for this Season, but like Ian said, it was a concept they didn’t find worthy of pursuing.

Man only six Episodes. I wondered what the other two were if they were planned. So that solves the mysteries. Thanks Theorist.

I feel like what the Production team should've done when Arc went bankrupt was push back Season 21 and JBS to 2018 I know that they had to do yearly season releases starting with Season 8 but I feel like if they had pushed back the season and the movie this one time, then we probably would've gotten a proper Season 21 and maybe even a different BWBA movie

I think the final two would've been School of Duck and Rosie is Red. School of Duck is not only Duck's only speaking role in BWBA, but the whole concept feels closer to the original series compared to most of the BWBA episodes, that plus the mention of Toby needing Hannah kinda sways that this might've been another missing concept that was heavily reworked into a BWBA format with extra emphasis on recycling. The only reason why Rosie is Red might've been another reworked script is due to this being (aside from Hunt the Truck) the only time in BWBA that heavily features Edward in some significant way. None of the other BWBA episodes featured him this much so who knows?

Can’t be either of those two. School of Duck was specifically written with the UN goals in mind. Rosie is red also isn’t brought up in Ian’s newest email regarding why they made her red. I think the simplest answer is that the other two episodes didn’t get into BWBA. As Ian said in the original email “some ideas weren’t worth pursuing” That means at least one got cut outright I’d think

I actually think School of Duck was one of the episodes. I know that mark moraghan said it was for season 22, however in Ian’s first email they said they had 18 scripts ready to go, BEFORE being sent to Jam Filled. Meaning that the unused episode concepts he mentioned were probably not mentioned to anyone outside the writing team until season 22, so after that fact they would’ve been seen as S22 episodes if that makes any sense. The Environmental aspects of it could have just been a coincidence. (I know this hurts my head too)

Aside from another Rosie story, who knows what the 8th other unknown story could’ve been? We probably won’t know for a while now at least, maybe it was something that popped up in the BWBA era or maybe both this other mysterious story and the Rosie one were ones lost to time. I originally considered maybe any story from Michael White could’ve been one of them but I just realized that wouldn’t make sense since he only started writing by Season 22. For all we know there could’ve been something about that Railway Museum Sir Robert Norramby brought up in Over The Hill (with maybe it being heavily reworked into the Marvelous Machinery stuff in Season 24) and all the BWBA production stuff probably made that whole concept glossed over where they might not have ever even gotten to writing stuff about the Railway Museum idea plus I doubt something like that would just be in a single episode and there probably would’ve been some two part arc to it, maybe another narrow gauge story with any one of said concepts utilizing Duke as it’s said he was going to be part of The Earl’s museum or some other narrow gauge engine (hopefully Sir Handel and the fact he went back to being arrogant and irritable in Season 24 could mean they wanted things to go back to normal with him already), maybe something with Hiro foreshadowing the BWBA era where he was in a promotional image for it with possibly him leaving for Japan earlier before Season 24, maybe finally something with Norman as there was something for Paxton and Sidney here but we can only dream, or potentially a Henry story as he was the only original Steam Team member not to play major roles in Season 21 so he could’ve had something but not about him leaving the Steam Team since as we know that was only very last minute during the production of Season 22. Heck Henry potentially having something in Season 21 yet nothing with him being in BWBA could work as he was already kicked out by then (though it would be interesting if he was originally going to have the main role in The Unfriendly Elephant considering his own experience, but maybe Rosie would’ve had the role as the way Nia handled the elephant situation seemed like one a female character would be better at handling than a male one). Don’t think there’d be anything with Diesel 10 as he’s been Missing In Action since Season 17 and isn’t meant to appear much anyways but it would be a surprise if there was and if that were the case it would give some reason to why Rebecca imagined his claw in Season 22 and the fact Splatter and Dodge were going to reappear in TGR and how he appeared in the CGI remake of Trying has me wondering if they ever had anything else planned for Diesel 10? Don’t think there’d be an adaptation for Gordon Goes Foreign and I think they just simply wanted to make any reference to anything in The Royal Engine or even Super Rescue where we surely would’ve heard something about both around the production of Season 21.

I have to remind myself that the cgi series writers don't care about continuity or build dates. Gordon is the prototype A1 built quite a bit before Scotsman. Making Gordon the older brother.

I don’t see that as evidence that the CGI writers don’t give a crap about the lore. I’m sure Scotsman just likes to joke about it. He is the most famous locomotive so he probably likes to tease Gordon and belittle him to make himself look cooler.

To think at the time we didn't know what the remaining episode of Season 21 would be, but it's kind of strange that we were originally gonna have another Bulgy focused episode in this season. Also, does anyone think Rosie really would have had the lead in The Unfriendly Elephant as she was supposed to have another lead role in this Season?

Great video! Outside of Diesel Do right I don’t think any of the other BWBA episodes would have really worked in series 21. As it is, I struggle to believe how some of the planned episodes would have fit in, particularly Thomas’ Animal Ark. Firstly with Thomas’ Animal Ark (and yes this is probably an odd analogy), Mattel almost always only did 4-5 (usually five) winter themed episodes per season. In season 17 there was Santa’s Little Engine, Frozen Turntable, Missing Christmas Decorations, and No Snow For Thomas (and on the season 17 US Christmas DVD Mark Morhgan re-narrated snow tracks), in Season 18 there was Last Train For Christmas, The Perfect Gift, Duncan the Humbug, Long Lost Friend, and Duck in the Water (yes, I know there is no snow, but in the UK there isn’t much snow in winter so please don’t talk abt that, it WAS on The Christmas Engines DVD, so there!), in Season 19 there was Diesel’s Ghostly Christmas (two parter), Snow Place Like Home, A Cranky Christmas, and The Beast of Sodor, and finally in Season 20 there was Letters to Santa, Christmas Coffeepot, Over the Hill, Love Me Tender, and Railcar and the Coaches. My point here is I don’t see why Mattel would change the usual 5 to 6, so that could be one of the reasons the episode was dropped. I also can’t help but feel that Animal Ark feels like it was pulled right out of source material from BWBA. It can’t be a coincidence that there were two episodes in a season where Thomas was rescued by an elephant, and I also feel that Nia is an important character in the episode since she’d be the one to know about most of the animals due to her culture, and there were a few lines she gave in the episode relating to her times back in Africa. I also feel that the plot is far to unrealistic for something in the the Brenner era. This might be a hot take, but I actually really like Animal Ark, and think it’s a fun concept, but it’s a concept far better excited for BWBA than Series 21. I also don’t really think The Case of the Puzzling Parts really fit into Series 21 ether. I just find it is a bit of a gimmicky concept which feels very BWBA, and while Paxton can sometimes be a bit of a silly character and Sidney isn’t the smartest in the world, both of them are kinda dumb in this one, I’d presume at least Paxton would know that the parts are for a locomotive, and anyone would think that they would have just asked Den or Dart since the story started at the dieselworks, and none of it would have happened had Den or Dart said what the flatbed was for (heck dart was even in the episode. Overall, while it’s not impossible that these two were originally written for Series 21, they don’t really fit in with the rest of the season, so I can’t help but think there might have been some miscommunication with those two, and ether Sam or Ian forgot exactly what was planned for the season. I’m not at all saying one of them is being untruthful, as when you have a busy life, you are going to forget some projects you were doing for work, and TTTE was Sam and Ian’s job.

I watched Mainland's video ages ago and I wanted to write those stories for my own head cannon. I swear, this changed my perspective completely... Oh no... I have to write them all over again.

You know, I'm surprised that the heads never really took advantage of the type of educational stuff that a show like Thomas could provide, in regards to the type of railway history and such it could show. Like, I get making a couple episodes regarding certain local cultures as stuff for introductionary episodes for each country, since I imagine culture shock being a type of thing,, but it kind of makes the international aspect of BWBA feel kind of undercooked. I mean, there was easily a clever way to bring the whole recycling angle into a Thomas story, by having one of the Australian characters be a rail tractor, considering the history of how those were made.

I think one of the unknown episodes was a Henry one. The fact they only just improved on his character issues in S20, he was originally going to stay in Tidmouth Sheds and the fact he had no starring role in S21 backs this up.

Not having a starring role doesn’t really mean that he was meant to have one tbf. One of the main characters not having a starring role isn’t exclusive to this season. Edward didn’t even have a starring role in seasons 4, 5 or 13, nor did Henry in season 6.

Other stories from the BWBA era written by either Davey Moore or Lee Pressman (other writers from there weren't around then) respectively that seem like they could work as possibly having been the 8th lost story of Season 21 could be the following; -Diesel Glows Away (though with someone other than Nia with Paxton, not entirely sure as we got tons of Diesel stuff in Season 21 already plus there was going to be a Paxton story already (Puzzling Parts) plus it's said they were going to write Stanley out after Season 22 but it seems like after deciding not to they intentionally brought him back for this and if they were actually going to write Stanley out after S22 it wouldn't make much sense to actually do go through with a story where he was planned to appear before the 22nd Season after plans for him to disappear were made) -Gordon and Rebecca, Coming Through (this seems believable as it's like Rebecca's learning to take the express on Sodor for the first time, just like in Chucklesome Trucks where things are happening as if she's learning how to handle the Sodor trucks) -And heck possibly the last episode aired Thomas' Animal Friends (seems strange with how weird this story was though there was already other animal relates stories that were meant to be in Season 21 plus Rebecca appears only but Nia doesn't so it's possible though we don't completely know) Like I said before, maybe they did have plans for Diesel 10 to return with the fact Splatter and Dodge were going to reappear in The Great Race, him appearing in the Trying remake, and his claw appeared in Rebecca's dream sequence in What Rebecca Does like I said before plus how he became part of the (God-Awful) Wood range. We know he didn't appear in The Big Freeze or Thomas' Memory of the others in JBS (why Duck didn't appear idk) so while it's possible that's just because well Diesel 10 hasn't appeared since Season 17 maybe they were planning on not showing him before to make him returning be a big surprise and reveal. Maybe Diesel Do Right was going to be in Season 21 but with Diesel 10 instead and tricking Rebecca with how new she is but maybe at the last minute they didn't want to go through with having Diesel 10 reappear since he's TATMR related and maybe the possibility he would've had something going on with Rebecca could explain why they'd at least have his claw appear in a dream sequence with her. It's possible Rosie is Red was going to be the Rosie story for Season 21 as it was written by Davey Moore and as for who would've had the original role for The Unfriendly Elephant, now that I think about it the way Nia went about trying to help the elephant comes off the way a female would be best at where the only other standard gauge male characters I think could handle it the way she did are Edward Percy Henry or even Hiro but Edward was booted off Percy would likely be unsure on how to deal with the elephant plus he was already a side character Henry while it would be interesting to have the role as a callback to Henry and the Elephant him as his CGI self unfortunately probably would be freaking out with the elephant and with Hiro they weren't doing anything with him at this point so likely not. The fact a female just seems best for this story and being near Vicarstown could mean Rosie could've also been the main character for this too or who knows maybe Emily could've had it but she already had two main roles in Dowager Hatt's Busy Day and Emily in the Middle.

I think the plan for Rebecca was that she was going to be someone who Henry and Gordon would have to take care of the same way that Edward took care of Thomas. Them going with that would have started a closing storyline for the entire show akin to Gordon retiring the express in The Railway Series, but in the case of the television series, retiring his attitude of feeling dignified.

In an engine with many colors, James made a reference that the fat controller was gonna have James painted blue. And that was in season 1.

Very interesting on Season 21 lost episodes as well as theory ones. The last two episodes are mysteries but my opinion that the unscripted ones should be on a Edward, Henry, Rebecca and Toby two-part story to close it off as Rebecca never had interact with them and the three guide her along. Season 21 is the truth initially very last series to Thomas

They shouldn’t have cancelled the last 8 episodes

I think 1 or 2 of the missing episodes were most likely Henry spotlight episodes, because strangely he does not have any in Season 21 (which is a shame considering he was written out after, it would've been nice to have one more Henry episode before he took his leave)

Henry also didn’t have any spotlight episodes in season 6, nor did Edward in seasons 4, 5 or 13, or James in season 4.

Oliver's Fear of Fireworks

Hot take: I think the two remaining episodes weren't reworked at all, and were just simply scrapped entirely. Rosie is Red just can't be a Season 21 Episode, and the other episodes that feel like ones were never made for it. Scrapped episodes happen a lot for TV shows, such as Invader Zim, and Thomas and Friends' own spin-off, Jack and the Pack. My only guess would probably Jock the New Engine adaptations. Because, the Small Railway Engines appeared in the previous season, but they had no follow-up in Season 21. So, maybe they just merged the first two stories into one episode, "We Need a New Engine", and the other two could be merged into one episode "Jock the New Engine". Now, this is just a theory, but, considering that all the episodes that could be part of Season 21 that haven't been confirmed by either Ian or Sam or anyone else have too many holes for this to be possible, I think it's more likely that they just scrapped the remaining episodes.

They could be reworked in the revival era someday, but for now I think you’re most likely right.

I just realized a error in the video, you mention how the samsons fear of fireworks episode cant be a oliver episode due to the path not being there at the bridge, when you later point out how it wasn’t there in the seeing is believing episode. That episode was confirmed to be a season 22 episode not a holdover from 21. I think they where just inconsistent with the sets as two identical sets just with a road and one without won’t be caught on the animators radar allowing for it to slip through meaning that Oliver’s fear of fireworks could still be the orginal episode.

Seems like there were a lot of missed opportunities for season 21 🙁

The seventh lost episode of Season 21 could have been Stepney because of his mention in the little engines song.

I’d be on the fence about that because it doesn’t really mean he was planned to return in this season. Let’s remember that Daisy was mentioned in the season 3 song despite the fact she wasn’t intended to be in that season. Plus this song was a recreation of a season 6 music video. I’m not saying we can be sure that Stepney wasn’t gonna return in season 21, but I would take your theory with a grain of salt.

On 22:25 there is no road because that’s the sodor side of the bridge

So Oliver was never made to have a cgi episode well that’s a bummer

Not exactly. The episode was originally written with Oliver as the protagonist. Just turns out that him being swapped with Samson happened earlier in production than we thought.

I got a question who do you prefer: duck or oilver

My ideal S21 would be S21 plus the existing S22 Sodor episodes re-worked to use the Brenner era format. And I think the Unfriendly Elephant episode could work for Duck.

Henry had bad luck with an elephant before, but since they went with a different approach for BWBA, they choose Nia to have the role. My first thought was that Henry or Charlie were originally taking a role of trying to get the stubborn elephant on board.

About rosie is red yeah i'm thinking the same as you adam i thougnt is going to an episode about rosie getting repainted and join the steam team which what i really want but that didnt happen at all i'm really dissepointed that they didnt make it happen if they did make it happen it will be a great episode consedering rosie had never apear in an episode the way i want rosie is red where is just rosie on the screen and still having her pink paint and getting repainted i'm just every dissepointed that they didnt use rosie in the rest of the seasons

Take away the wonky animation and add the rebbecca ones in 21 and maybe show shots of her like a gigantic behemoth that she(her model)is but write episodes that contradict this nature by her gentle giant ness rebbecca could gave been appreciated

And instead of her being forced in our faces she should have been paired with rosie and henry instead as they help her get familiar to the new place as gordon and james bully her and should have made percy(and maybe thomas)not accepting her at first then an episode of something she and emily working together could have sealed the deal honestly the higherups at mattel were stupid smh

I think it would be better if Rosie had the number 18, instead of Nia

@@joshuaW5621 the way Ian was talking, it was as if Edward and Henry were gonna be used as secondary characters. But no. Instead they barley had any speaking roles and Edward only appeared in one episode in the entirety of Season 23 that’s it.
