actually the methane gass killed many that werent even in its path and ashes along with molten lava rocks falling killed those not killed by the lava flow. they were poisoned sufficated and burned to death in a weeks time.

Most of the bodies are fake, they try to make it look like straight after the erup
I wonder what all their final thoughts were before it happened. I wonder about how the people’s day’s were going; were some celebrating someone’s birth or maybe a marriage. Was someone having a good day or a bad one and how they were handling itI wonder if they imagined how the future would be after it. I wonder if some tried to escape or if others accepted the fate. I wonder if people tried to abandon friends and family or if they stayed together and tried to leave. I wonder if they thought that their gods were angry with them. I wonder if they thought that the world was ending-Or did some even have final thoughts frozen with shock about what was happening that there were no thoughts, only fear

Yeah, they decomposed overtime but left little pockets of their impression, sort of like fossils I believe. Some are more detailed than others though. Imagine hearing about this or seeing it back then.

I saw a video on Pompeii on the last day of school. It was called, "Pompeii's Last Days." It took the positions of the people buried in the ashes and created stories about them. It really freaked me out it was so scary. . .
just came back from italy yesterday and pompei was by far my favorite thing i saw. so amazing and full of history

I watched a documentary where they said the wind usually blew over the sea, but unusually on that day when the volcano erupted the winds blew over the city causing the ash, smoke etc to cover the city.
Here's a quick explanation of this: The people of Roman thought that their god (Hephaestus) was working inside the volcano, so they didn't really care until BOOM they weren't killed by the lava they were actually killed by the burning ash of the remains of the volcano.

it's amazing how well it was preserved.
The remarkable excavation efforts that persevered the structure of the city even trough the ash. All of the bodies are preserved in their original positions which is frightening as a look into your last moments. It is a looking glass into the fragility of mortality because a volcanic eruption could destroy your entire world.
I was there in March 2014, just amazing. Cannot wait to go back again.

Don Avard Bless ya buddy I know what you mean. So much to take in I don't know about you but I was there last year and I really Goosebumps just being there. And then there's Vesuvius itself just the way it absolutely dwarfs the landscape around it kind of gives you the feeling of just how terrifying it can be.
I only know of Pompeii because of the song by Bastille. Though, I feel fairly sad that they had to be killed in such a tragic way.

This is quite an exceptional site as the site of Pompeii seems very preserved and life back then can be imagined through walking in the town.it also helps us see the past Roman Empire at its prime.it also gives us a way to see what materials they used at the time.

So sad but very proud city..
it was a very sad event in history and probably one of the most tragic stories we have. It is sad what happened, but at least it was not in vein, at least we can learn something about them and they didnt have to die for nothing. The casts are the most striking I think, and the saddest. You wish you could just pluck them out of that moment in time and save them, but you cant, we can only look back and learn.
