Pompeii and the House of Sallust - 3D Reconstruction
Ойындар
The House of Sallust at Pompeii was discovered more than 200 years ago, and still is one of the best-preserved elite homes in the city. In it, you can see both continuity & modification -- both reflecting the tastes and styles of Roman life over time. I have used the "Medieval Engineers" software engine with many mods to create this walkable, playable, explorable version. This introduction will show you a little bit about how Romans conceived of the idea of "home" and how they used their space to reflect their values. I hope you enjoy!
If you have Medieval Engineers, you can download and walk through this whole Pompeii build yourself, at no extra charge. It's on the Steam Workshop: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...

Having been to the House of Sallust, I was left 'pondering what reality might have been.' Thank you for bringing the spaces to life.

Ooh
As amazing as the people's lives must have been who could afford such a luxurious home, I feel 100 times luckier to be alive during a time where at the click of a mouse I can learn about really amazing stuff, such as how they may have lived and enjoyed their time, and then with another click of the mouse learn something else really cool. Thanks for this video!

@@mwoxo It depends what experience one is after. I don't think current era life is dumbed down at all, but there are plenty of people who choose to sit idle and that's their own problem.
Fascinating as always and reminded me of my visit to Pompeii as well. Thank for sharing this!
I really enjoyed the short video - perfect length and level of discussion. Not overkill - I will definitely look for more. Thanks again, you have a great eye for detail and keeping things relevant.
Absolutely fascinating and beautiful! Thanks so much for the hard work and research that must have been involved in bringing this ancient site to life once again. Just incredible!
That type of construction/floor plan which is out of style today is wonderful way to bring light in and keep the houses very cool in the hot summer days. Today we have opted for AC. But in Spain, Portugal, Italy, and every Latin American country there are houses with that layout and it is very effective in controlling outside temperature. They are also very private.
Wonderful presentation, beautiful colors and good look at the Interiors in Pompeii . Thank you
Gorgeous, atmospheric and lovely details!!
Thank you for recreating this Roman style villa on video. I have visited Pompeii and was impressed by the size of the town. The houses of the wealthier citizens were beautiful and they must have enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle in their day but of course it was all buried by the eruption of 79AD.
Very interesting.. I look forward to more presentations!
Excellent vid! Picked up a few decorating tips too.
Thank you guys from showing how it was built in the past 👍👍
Thank you for such a great video! Nice work. We recently saw the Pompeii exhibit in Phoenix. I had seen it as a child back in 1976, and still remembered it! This video really brings it to life. I just loved it.

It was breathtaking THANKYOU, THANKYOU N THANKS again. Cant wait to see the others. The atmosphere of it all, I could have been there I've always dreamed of being a fly on the wall now I've been transported there.xxxxx
I was always fascinated ever since I found in my Gran Father's library, the famous picture of the sentry who remained at his post.
I see that house being cold and damp in the winter.
Nicely done. Keep up the good work.

Good job, well done and lots of fun to watch.
Pompeii is amazing to see in person. I would love to go back to see if again now.
Pompei è un posto magico dove il tempo si è fermato al 24 ottobre del 79 d. C. Ci sono stata tante volte e non mi stanco mai di vederla. È un sito molto grande e ogni volta scopro qualcosa di nuovo. Ottima ricostruzione, complimenti!

Thanks for the note! Yeah it seems that this video makes the KZread rounds once every 4 or 6 months or so. I never imagined that half a million people would have seen it by now! Unfortunately the game was updated, broke a whole bunch of things, and then released/abandoned. It stopped working well on my computer and has kind of gone into the dustbin of gaming history. A real shame because it had so much potential. I'm glad people are still seeing the videos though.

@@Stori3d_Past Great video, thanks for doing it, deserves the views. A question that also comes from watching the video. Is it true that the Romans, apart from the triclinium and the chairs and tables, had little furniture and in particular didn't have comfortable beds?
Thanks Richard, I enjoyed that.

Mind blowing how long lasting that floor tile pattern is.
Herculaneum is the best and most preserved, even having whole wooden furniture pieces! Herculaneum has beds, rooves, inside stair railing, wall shelving, privacy and room-dividing wooden screens, 2nd stories with rooves, too! Full town and looking like it was fully inhabited just yesterday!

Good work!
This is amazingly beautiful. Would love to live there. Wonderful how much art and culture is displayed as well as the classic columns and other Roman effects. The compluvium and inpluvium in the entrance for collecting water and sunshine is a fascinating innovation to me that works in that climate. Very clever those Romans. Just beautiful. I think of the loves and lives there. Thank you for your marvelous work.

Thank you for such a nice note. I'm really glad you enjoyed this. Yes, when I was recreating the spaces there were times when I just stopped and "walked" my character through it, looking at how the light would come through the compluvium, or wandering in the back garden. It's so poignant that the same volcano that caused so much death and destruction also preserved this place for us to learn & get inspired by!
Loved this video 10/10
The Royalty that started digging into Pompeii ruins and the speaker does not mention was King Carlos III of Spain and great part of Italy and its big Islands at that time.
Playing they Hurrian Hymn in the background? Nice touch
Wonderful!

Excellent.
Man how neat was this how i love volcanos.
Incredible
pretty cool how the art looks exactly like 17th- 18th c art when it was excavated in that exact period. Isn't such an amazing and awesome coincidence ? Almost like it was comissioned to be painted by a King or somthing.
Very interesting thanks
Very nice and large!
It's so nice hearing a KZread narrator with no annoying regional accent.
great well done
Con Pompei abbiamo iniziato ad incamminarci nella ricostruzione tridimensionale dell'archeologia e della civiltà romana la vita e il suo mondo. grazie al vulcano che c'e la restituita. Fantastico! 💋 Napul'è semp'Napul.
Something to keep in mind is that wooden and fabric furniture did not survive in Pompeii (very interestingly that some wood _survived_ in Herculaneum), so that’s a dynamic of the domicile more or less left to imagination. The only surviving clues of it being what was sometimes depicted in their paintings/frescos
So cool!
Really interesting and tons better than ancient broken walls!
"Excuse me, could you please tell me where Mr. Sallust is?" "He's in the kitchen taking a dump."
