My favourite thing about Sam is that at one point in the books the ring speaks to him and the only desire it can show him is the power to cover Mordor in flowers. Sam was offered the ultimate power and all he wanted was to make the world beautiful

Magy geeking out and trying to not spoil anything, Laura being too invested to make more commentary, love to see it. The only thing missing was Magy pointing out that Viggo Mortensen actually broke his toe kicking that helmet, and that that scream was of real pain. Can't wait for the next one!

I think the scream was more out of anger and frustration about injuring himself than it was from the pain. And that anguish was perfect.

The industrialization of war by Saruman was Tolkien’s commentary on the First World War of which he had firsthand experience. The so-called glory and honor of battle died in the trenches until only the horror was left. Thus, the mines and mills of Isengard. I love Sam’s speech about the story that really mattered about the world passing through darkness and danger

I think he was very upset that the old world balance was disrupted. Kings of old would actually fight and die in battle leading men. Whereas politicians now can get entire nations into war and not have to fight it. And I can see why the scouring of the Shire is left out because it’s heavily depressing to think that their home is completely changed when they get back. Makes me profoundly sad to think about the soldiers coming back home to see their merry old England scarred and industrialized.

It is more than that. Tolkien was part of the pre raphaelite art mouvement which was rejecting the industrial reovulition and its "amoral" value by coming back to ancestral craft techniques. Even if it is sure that WWI afected Tolkien to the point that it influenced his work he never claimed that LotR was about it. here isengard is more a caricature of over-industrialization in general.

That’s where the famous allegory quote is from. But I also think it’s a bit of a stretch to add the commies although they are about the same time frame when he was creating the lore. However I think that’s why Tolkiens work will stand the test of time because you can insert various political ideologies in and it work. I think he was talking about a more general evil that has been in the world since it’s creation

Sam is the real MVP!! Sean Astin should've gotten an Oscar for his parts in these movies. Always bringing the emotion & heart into these films. "A promise. A promise, Mr. Frodo, and I don't mean to break it" and "There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for". And of course the next movie....I've seen that scene maybe 1000 times and it NEVER fails to bring tears to my eyes.

One of my most vivid cinema memories was seeing this on opening day, absolutely packed cinema. And when the Gollum scenes kicked in there was nervous laughter in the audience, because people just didn't really know how to react to what they were seeing. I think after Jar Jar Binks people were programmed to think that Gollum was probably a comedy sidekick, but it becomes clear very quickly that he is a serious character that demands as much attention as any of the live-action characters. It was a very strange atmosphere that I have never forgotten, even though it only lasted about twenty seconds.

I saw them all in the theatre and when Aragorn cut the head off of the boss Uruk-Hai the whole crowd yelled "Yeah!!" as one. It was glorious

Peter Jackson's team decided to make changes in characters' arcs for the movies, so the people seeing these stories for the first time can somehow understand their motivation. They differ quite a bit from the books: Aragorn in the books is working on to become a king for a decades now, while in the films he only decides during this quest. That's why Boromir gets more and more frustrated being fighting a loosing battle with Mordor for twenty years without any hope, now no-one listens to his advices, Aragorn doesn't want to go to Gondor, because he knows Boromir's father and that his pride could doom the whole quest. Boromir being carrying this heavy depressing burden finally grows desperate and the Ring takes advantage in the situation. Boromir, who's seen the Ring only as a weapon, still tries to reason and explain himself, but finally tries to take It from Frodo and a minute later understands what the Ring really is. And he does his best and more to protect hobbits for the last time (as he protected them throughout their whole journey - he taught them a bit of swordfighting, carried them through the snow, took care of them in Moria). Faramir in the books was never tempted by the Ring; here we see a little bit of his learning curve and how he recognises the danger of It in the end. Eowyn thinks she loves Aragorn, but she loves rather the idea of a hero like him and thinks that a victory or glorious death in a battle is the only meaning of life. The entish language is extremly complicated and a lenghty process, that's why they talk very seldom. Hence Pippin's “hasty” idea to show Treebeard what was happening in Isengard. And yes, Ents in battle mode are no joke. Regarding Elven and Dwarven armies: all their realms and kingdoms were already fighting off enemies, just like Rohan here. (Elves arrived only in the movie.) Also, all the refernces to “hope” are very cleverly placed in dialogues: when he was brought to Rivendel as a little child, Aragorn was named Estel (Hope) by his mother in her foresight.

Gandalf did die after the fight against the Balrog. He was resurrected by either the Valar or Eru.

That flashback really makes Boromir’s departure all the more tragic: he never wanted to go to Rivendell. The whole time he was trying to take the Ring, he was just trying to get back to his brother who was serving at the front.

May look like that in the movies, in the book he takes up the quest to go to Ribendale from his brother and his father didn't send him to go after the Ring. They didn't know that Isuldurs Bane was the One Ring. Just another mistake Jackson made in the movies to help assasinate Denathors character as he did others in the movies. The real reason Boromir went to Rivendale was because Faramir was having dreams to seek the Sword that was Broken, halflings, Isildurs Bane, in Rivendale. Faramir had the dream many times and Boromir once. Boromir choose to go in Faramir's place. Faramir

When the Fellowship receives the gifts from Galadriel and her people, Celeborn says "May these cloaks shield you from unfriendly eyes". THAT'S why the Easterlings don't see them, nor to the Mordor Orcs when they are climbing the Winding Stair.

Aragorn has another name - “Estel” which means “Hope.” There’s a lot of lines in the trilogy that bring the word up and if you plug in Aragorn, it’s a nice easter egg. I’m not 100% sure if Peter Jackson did this on purpose, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did.

Foxy being badass was the best part of this whole reaction...the look on Magy's face when the f-bomb landed was so awesome. Also, Laura figured it out that if you dont see the body, then they didnt die. You are so right Magy that if she believes this movie is epic, which it really is, then its gonna be interesting to see what she thinks about the final movie. Once again the two of you have exceeded what would be considered a top notch reaction video and entered the realm of excellence. 🌹❤🌹❤

Sam's speech to Frodo in Osgiliath is easily an All-time Top 5 Movie Speech and definitely one of my favorites.

Another great movie by Peter Jackson is The Frighteners with Michael J. Fox. Peter Jackson even said that making The Frighteners made the LOTR movies happen, because he had to by computers for the CGI in the Frighteners. So when he had the technology he was able to make LOTR Now you just have to watch The Frighteners 😂😂. Oh and make sure to watch the Director's Cut.

Those were two great reactions for I and II... can't wait for you guys to watch Return of the King! Luckily, I was able to read the books before I watched the movies. So some of these dialogs/sequences hit much, much closer. Gollum has always been one of my favourite characters in fiction, but Andy Serkis really brought him to life.

Magy is around 5 feet 2 inches tall, so she really loves that the characters with the central task of taking to ring to be destroyed are small.

ive never seen somebody so hostile towards Theodin before. He wasnt giving up. They litereally lost and if gandalf wasnt going to be there they would of all died.

I feel he is often judged too harshly... he saw so many awful things and tried to carry way too big burden, so Saruman managed to poison his thoughts.. but he reaveld himself as the big warrior and noble king he actually is in the ride of the Rohirrim

To be fair, Jackson really did Theoden dirty in the movies.Lots of very pointless arguing between him and Gandalf or him and Aragorn for "drama".

I think FELLOWSHIP has the best theatrical version, TWO TOWERS has the best extended version, and RETURN OF THE KING is just awesome in any version.

Here's a real fun fact that I never see anyone commenting on LOTR reactions. On the set of POTC there is a scene with Depp and Orlando Bloom underneath a life boat under water and Orlando became so light headed he started speaking Elvish because he was so confused he thought he was back on the LOTR movie set. 😂

i didn't know that! if true (which I have every reason to believe it is), that is pretty wild and cool to know!

The part about the dead marshes includes Legolas’s Father; Thranduil, & Thranduil’s father Oropher, were to join the Last Alliance in from a different angle to achieve a certain war tactic but Oropher and others got waylayed by orcs & many corrupted men which lead to eventually Oropher dying there, this loss effected Legolas’s father so very deeply forevermore. The bond between he and his son is the same bond Thranduil has with Legolas. And the braid he wears is to honour his grandfather. I believe after his death braids became less common. A sort of respect thing I believe. Both his father and Grandfather lived in Doriath(Elu Thingol’s domain[Elwë], which was heartbea of middle earth; Aside from Gondolin which held this mantle until it’s secret location was given up by a tortured elf who was the son of a very important mother who was the sister of the high king Turgon). All on a landmass called Beleriand that sunk under the sea after a set of disastrous events that lead to many greater outcomes much later on in the legendarium. This here is a whole set of stories of which also includes a quite a bit of Galadriel too but moreso other characters during this era. Of Beren And Lùthien comes to mind and Children Of Hurin!! You’ll fall in love even more after the third movie. Then you can enter into the lore videos like Moviejoob and OmarioRPG have done reaction videos too. Amazing stuff. One thing to add though is this scene resembles a lot from the other battle Tolkien was involved in called The Battle Of Somme. Look into it and tell me your thoughts. I’ll add something here though: that clan of elves really didn’t like being under the command of anyone else so they went ahead without the order and let’s just say it didn’t end well. That and they weren’t fond of the Ñoldor… huge history there as to why that is. That and the Sindar subgroup of these clans were a tiny bit more isolationist. But there are many amazing Sindar in the legendarium too Elrond and his two sons and daughter are connected to all of the main clans of men and elves through the union of his half elf father and full elf(quarter goddess) mother. Who essentially played a huge role in saving the world from the original dark lord Morgoth. Gained the Favour Of Valinor. Which subsequently lead to Numenor being a gift from the sea to the men who helped. Becoming blessed. Their land existing within the light of Valinor as it was situated closely to The Undying Lands. (The same ancestry Aragorn has that Èowyn spoke of while they were travelling to Helm’s Deep! (Elrond’s Twin Brother became the first king of Númenor. His name becoming Tar-Minyatur, and those faithful to Eru, the elves and the natural world all of this line carried Tar before their name! Ar for Aragorn is the word meaning Noble in his tongue called Adúnaic. That too is a fleshed out language Tolkien created too. Elvish languages also were placed into the official list of world languages too!

In the books, Merry and Pippin do not run directly to Fangorn, they feel weak so they stop to eat some lembas they still have. When Aragorns see those tracks and learnt they did it, Gimli is not surprised that hobbits stopped to eat in the middle of a battle

According to Tolkien, Elves could even dream while moving about, "blending living night & deep dream." When Aragorn, Gimli & Legolas are running across the Plains of Rohan pursuing the orcs who captured Merry and Pippin, Legolas never sleeps, even stands watch while his wiped out Dwarf & Human companions are literally tuckered out and even while the other two are asleep. That & out of the entire journey Legolas was both Stoic & ethereal but the one whose heart remained the lightest and kept the fellowship afloat in so many ways ❤. So it was weird how the film gave it all to Gimli! 😂❤️ They have a debate after finding the brooch dropped by Pippin..... continue running through the night (& possibly miss other important signs in the dark), or rest overnight (and let the Uruks get further away from them). In the end, they choose to rest. This also applies to what I explained in earlier comments regarding how Legolas was able to walk ontop of the snow!

Andy Serkis that plays Gollum, he did all of Gollums moves in a body suit and he did his voice. At an academy awards they made an Oscar award and he did the voice of Gollum saying the award is his. It was a funny skit

I think most people (including critics) consider The Two Towers to be the best of the three movies because of the incredible battle sequences at Helm's Deep. I love them all but maybe still think Return of the King is the best. But I still remember getting misty-eyed when the Elves marched in to fight side-by-side with the humans _:)

All three movies had epic, emotion-jarring scenes - the Bridge of Khazad-dum and the Charge of the Rohirrim come to mind - viewing reactions to all three has become a source of enjoyment for me, to see the next generation appreciate The Professor's work

If I could only choose one of them to rewatch. I would find it hard not to choose the first one. It has so many great moments. The story and character introductions, the fall of Gandalf, the departure or Boromir... I love all of the movies but I have found my most rewatched scenes are from The Fellowship of the Ring. For example, the opening scene for Fellowship is the most epic thing I have ever seen. The creation of the Rings, the Battle of Dagorlad. "There were some who resisted..." That shit blew my mind in theatre. I had no idea how epic this story was.

Small tidbit. When Viggo Mortensen, the actor who played Aragorn kicked the helmet by the burning orc bodies. He broke two of his toes. So the scream he let out was a real scream.

Seeing the extended battle between Gandalf and the Balrog, both after he fell in the first movie and on the peak of the mountain - one of the most epic scenes in this trilogy! Sam being so attached to his little box of salt from the Shire - what a beautiful reminder of how much Sam stayed the same, all while we see Frodo being changed by the Ring more and more Gollum tryna slide in their DMs like the little creep he is 😂Jokes aside, it's sad to see just how strong his addiction to the Ring is, how much it broke him to his very core. Magy sure can romanticize any situation 😂That was a good one! All things considered, Saruman did a great job of weakening and taking over Rohan, first by trickery, slowly poisoning the king's mind and then in full force with his newly created armies. Perfect example of the unreliable orcish nature. Fighting amongst themselves constantly and then getting ambushed and wiped off by Eomer's riders. Very rocky start between Eomer and Gimli but at the same time, what a beautiful way to show how much Legolas has grown to care for Gimli. Just like you, Magy 😂 Every scene with Gollum, he's so over the top you can't help but laugh when he starts going off into one of his dramatic episodes. Those big eyes of his are incredibly expressive. Seeing Frodo like that makes you realize just how deep the Ring has burrowed itself into his heart. Chills, every single time you see this scene. Gandalf made such a grand comeback Gandalf returns, still speaks in riddles, claps back at Gimli for being sassy - we're all cheering like there's no tomorrow! It may look silly/incredible/convenient that the enemy patrol didn't see them under their cloak but it's important to remember just how important the difference between good and evil is in this universe. Elvish-made things (Sam's rope, their cloaks, the lembas bread) have incredible properties, retain part of the magic of the elves and they're very potent against the evil forces. Drink more water instead of Redbull, Magy 😂 That's why you're still small! Saruman was in for a rude awakening once Gandalf revealed his true self, finally releasing the Theoden from under his spell. That was so satisfying, seeing Theoden return to his normal self, looking like an actual human being again. Heartbreaking moment, both Eowynn's mourning song and seeing Theoden cry over his son's early demise, while Gandalf knew exactly what to say in order to encourage him. What starts as a creepy scene, Gollum talking to himself, ends up being so satisfying, when you see his "Smeagol" persona triumph over Gollum. The scenes between Aragorn and Arwen just make you fall in love with love, every single time. Just wait until you see all the crazy stuff Legolas does. Gimli always gets himself in the most hilarious situations 😂 Seeing the mom reunited with her kids is such a short scene but it's incredibly satisfying nonetheless. Everyone expected her to be dead when her village was attacked and she sent her kids away on horseback to warn the king. Brego came back for Aragorn - setup and payoff from earlier in the movie when Aragorn talks to him, calms him down. This scene, with Elrond describing Arwen's future, it hits you right in the feels every single time. It breaks your heart, seeing how happy and content Gollum was and just how fast all that trust between him and Frodo was shattered because of Faramir's rash decision and the cruelty with which his rangers treated Gollum. Gimli and Legolas' reunion with Aragorn - cuteness overload! Theoden was served a healthy piece of humble pie when he saw the elves showing up despite his stubborness in refusing to ask for help. Gimli not being able to see over the wall was hilarious but his competition with Legolas topped it 😂 Pippin was clever, really clever, making Treebeard take them to the side of the forrest he knew Saruman would've cut down to fuel his industrial machine. He managed to drive the ents into taking action faster than any council could've. Haldir's last moments were so sad, the last thing he saw was his butchered kind laying on the ground. "Don't tell the elf" 😂Who cares if they die or not, it's important Legolas doesn't find out Gimli was thrown by Aragorn! Okay Magy, we're really embracing the small memes now, are we? 😂 Sam dropping the hard truth, as always. Boromir certainly didn't expect to hear that, how the big brother he looked up to his entire life was driven mad by the ring. Laura had enough 😂 holy, that was an epic outburst! Easily one of the best scenes in this second movie, along with the badass way in which the Ents siege and take over Isengard. Heartbreaking, every single damn time, when you hear the despair in Sam's voice while he asks Frodo if he doesn't recognize him anymore. His little monologue right about, about going forward and doing what's right - everyone truly deserves to have their own Sam, perhaps the world would be a much better place if that was the case. Well done on not spoiling anythin, Magy, you did an excellent job! Thank you for the amazin reaction, it's been a pleasure rewatchin this with you❤

Gandalf was a major inspiration for Dumbledore, but both are partly inspired by Merlin in the King Arthur legends.

Great reaction guys, and Bravo on making the two towers into one video. Right now I am currently listening to the hobbit on audiobook, and Andy Serkis who voices Smeagol and Gollum. He's the one reading the book, he's so good at voices of characters especially Smeagol and Gollum. Highly recommended if you're interested.

you can tell when someone is really into the movie when they forget themselves and get really angry or cry. I guess that's why a lot of us here to see how others reacted this vs how we reacted to it. Great reactions ladies!!! Now on to my favorite movie of this trilogy.

To me, the most amazing thing about LOTR is that it never should've been a success. This was a film trilogy shot all at the same time in a country not known for big-budget film production directed by a relatively little-known director with an international cast using special effects on a scale that had never been done before all based on a trilogy of books that had been considered unfilmable up to that time. And yet, not only did they get it right, but they got progressively better as they went on. The LOTR trilogy is a miracle.

Peter Jackson did it so right. Magnificent practical effects almost seamlessly mixed with CGI, except for a couple of instances like Bilbos seeing the Ring in Rivendell it was flawless.

Just to point out - Arwen was actually supposed to be at Helm's Deep initially. They even filmed a tonne of scenes with her there, fighting alongside Aragorn! Liv Tyler had to learn swordplay and everything! It was only weeks into filming that they realised it wasn't really working, so added the flashback scenes. A very good decision IMHO. Great reaction guys!! My fav film trilogy of all time! So good to see newbies to it!!

The best with movies I think is that you can immerse yourself into the world and story of it and live in that world for awhile, some cant immerse themself like that, so be happy that you guys can 🙂 Its an amazing series though, Ive always seen it somewhat of a orchestral concert with imagery and watching the movies in a theater or using high quality headphones just enhances that epic athmosphere the music adds to this movie series and makes it easier to get into I think. Hearing almost any of the music from these movie makes my eyes tear up especially the shire music its so beautiful, and yes this series I consider to be 1 long movie and its on my number 1 spot of best movies Ive ever seen and nothing else comes close to it I think, its the movie of movies in my mind 🙂oh yea a nice detail in this movie is that the guy playing Gimli is also voicing Treebeard 🙂

The Old Forest at the borders of Buckland that Merry mentions were part of The Lord of the Rings book but was cut from the films. To shake of any potential followers (before he knew that they were The Ringwraith) he sells Bag End to the Sackville-Baggins (we see them at the party in the first movie, though the husband Otho dies of old age, his son Lotho, who is not in the movies, is with his mother Lobelia) and moves to Buckland. In order to shake the Nazgûl of their trail, the hobbits goes into The Old Forest but encounters a living, hateful tree called Old Man WIllow who swallows Merry and Pippin. Frodo and Sam makes a fire to make him let go but Merry and Pippin cries out that the willow will crush them if they don't put it out, which they do. Suddenly a strange song is heard and a bearded man in blue hat and clothes, named Tom Bombadill, comes towards them. They immediatley begs him for their help and he tells Old Man Willow "Away with you! You should not be awaken! Eat earth, dig deep, drink water! Go to sleep, away with you!" and he lets Merry and Pippin go. While this whole section and the chapters about Tom Bombadill's house and the Barrow-downs, was deleted from the scripts because of lenght, pacing, time, being not vital for the story and some elements that complicated the story (such as Tom Bombadill being unaffected by The Ring and even could make IT inviseble, rather than the otherway around), the mention of the Old Forest (in the book, Treebeard said Fangorn Forest during the First and Second Ages used to stretch all the way to Eriador, where The Shire and Bree are located) and Willow that captures Merry and Pippin and Treebeard telling it to go to sleep, making it let go of the hobbits, were elements that stayed in the films.

I'm glad she's warming up to LOTR. You know what I think happened? Too soon after the Harry Potter movies. Moving from one epic series to another too fast. She hadn't digested HP ending yet and was thrust into LOTR. But no one can resist for too long.

The HARRY POTTER movies are not remotely comparable to LORD OF THE RINGS. The HARRY POTTER movie series was competent and well-produced but it was never great, nor will it ever be regarded as great. Peter Jackson's LORD OF THE RINGS, on the other hand, will be regarded for generations as the pinnacle of cinema.

Hello lovely Ladies, I really liked your reaction in the first two films. I have watched many reactions to the LOTR films and yours's is the best by far, many do it and don't seem to take note of what is going on, they just want the clicks. You two did take note because you remembered things and felt the emotion of the films, they do tug at the heart. I read the books decades ago long before the films came out, mostly while on guard duty while in the army, it helped pass the time. I am off to the shop before I watch the last film with you (all 3 in one sitting) as I want to have a drink, sit back and watch your emotions flow especially from Laura as she has not seen them before. I expect the tears will flow, the excitement will grow and the sadness set in as you realise that is it, you have seen the last film in the trilogy. They excelled themselves making these films, they seem timeless. Let's not forget JRR Tolkien for writing the books, he fought in World War 1 and put some of his experiences into the books which is why it is dark in places.

Gandalf really did die in the first movie, but he was "sent" back to finish his task! Here's some background lore...and none of this is spoilers so feel free to read on... "Gandalf, was an Istar (Wizard), dispatched to Middle-earth in the Third Age to combat the threat of Sauron." "The Order of Wizards (Quenya: Heren Istarion), or simply Wizards (Q.: Istari), were a group of Maiar sent to Middle-earth by the Valar in the Third Age (possibly the late Second Age). They were embodied as elderly Men and entrusted to aid the Free Peoples against the threat of Sauron's conquest by lending them their wisdom and counsel. They were originally known as Five Guardians and were members of the Guardians around Cuiviénen." So, Gandalf was a Maiar....the best translation for that would be "Angel", and the Valar would be "Arch Angel". The Balrog that Gandalf fought and was killed by was also a "Maiar" When Gandalf was killed by the Balrog ... I assume his spirit went back to the "Western lands" or "Amen" and there he was sent back to Middle Earth to finish his task. When he was sent back he was promoted to "White Wizard"!

1:15:10 listen carefully sam and frodo.. Sam called him " Gollom where are you".. Frodo call him " Smeagol?" Smeagol was our creature's hobbit name.. The original name.. Gollum is that creature's new name.. Dark name... So, Sam didnt trust him and call him with his dark name.. But Frodo believe him inside there is still hope.. He is still a hobbit, that's what Frodo's belief.. Because of this He call him "Smeagol"... Details man, details..

He displays true unconditional love which we all want & we all need, however tough or aloof a person you may be. We all need a good friend at our greatest peaks & most difficult valleys through life. Eh, seems like Magy & Laura are like a female version of Frodo & Sam😉😊 Also whioe Boromir was brave & strong he got corrupted by the power of the One Ring because his father arguably poisoned him with trying to please him. He wasn’t bad, just flawed. Faramir was purer of heart & it wasn’t strength per se that allowed him to resist but his innate goodness, I’d argue - this is why he resists taking the One Ring & let’s Frodo & Sam go. However there could be more to it that other Lord of the Ring scholars could chime in on & elaborate about this more.

I must say.. Foxy.. you went really RAW at that point 😂 and that is the magical immersiveness the LOTR Fellowship does to us. They take us all to the battle against evil. The true epicness of LOTR is yet to come. Also do go through the lore its much larger than you think.
