    On one hand, I can see why Baradun did that. The illusion allows them to get more info if needed and also did give them a surprise round for Bob sneak attack. The round also wasn't entirely wasted since Shatter with AOE damage was still being done athough Rob is being pretty generous in allowing it to happen without investigation checks. Although this round, it's made immediately clear it's an illusion turn 1. Nah. The only thing bad was him trying to stick with it after the tentacle touched him, ignoring the last bit of the spell which says any physical interaction makes it clear it's an illusion and once you know it's one, the colour changes to a hue where it's more CGI Hologram, marking it as illusory.

    @@PainRack Turn 0 was the 'summon' and shatter. Top of turn 1 he used acid, mid turn 1 it was attacked and marked as illusion. Turn 2 he released and summoned the dragon. He didn't actually waste a turn or stick with it after it was touched, it just seemed that way because he kept adding flavor/dialogue through the rest of turn 1.

Odo fought beside William in the Battle of Hastings (1066), and a scene in the Bayeux Tapestry shows him wielding a club amidst a knot of Norman horsemen. Some clergymen in the middle ages wielded maces because it didn't draw blood as easily as a sword. And due to the sacrament blood was considered holy. The scepter is thought to be a dressed up representation of the mace. Some fun fact for you.

    In DnD5, everyone have all available skills! Technically with a good roll, everyone can successfully tame any animal or open any lock. It's different from games like Warhammer RPG in which your profession lets you unlock specific skills that others don't have. You can still be pretty bad at it, but at least you can make attempts.

    It's funny how in DnD5, clerics can't actually be pure healers. I think that the best way to play a character focused on healing and not much else would be certain druid subclasses (like circle of Dreams). Clerics can heal, tank, support, inflict damage, control crowds... One of the most versatile classes in the game.

  • @PoochMG

    @PoochMG

    @@Ezullof pure healers wouldn't be very good in 5e. Damage and crowd control are way better. If you can prevent 2 enemy turns with your turn, that's 4, 5, even 6 attacks you are negating. If you take them out that's 4,5,6 attacks every turn for the remainder of the fight. No amount of healing is going to match that.

    Here's question for Rob: Bodger was forced to disarm himself, but not told how. Could he have thrown his hammer at an enemy and not called it back? He would have been without a weapon. The counter to that would be that action not being "disarm."

  • @Firsttimerrestorations

    I was thinking the same thing. The only thing I could come up with is that bodger didn't know why he was disarming himself so he wouldn't know to do the Thor hammer throw. I probably would have at least tried to see if Rob would let it slide though

    Maces are associated with clerics in D&D because medieval christian priests were not allowed to use weapons that shed blood - ie edged weapons - but maces were acceptable. Hence Bishop Odo of Bayeaux using a mace/club at Hastings.

    Progression of characters, Greg, the garlic farmer: started out as a garlic farmer, store owner in Honey wood. Main skill at the time, tinker. He was able to build just about anything given enough time, let's just say popi was the best thing ever which was one of his sheep i do believe which he turned into all kinds of fun things. As he progressed, he switched class to a cleric which the party definitely needed. Baradun: started out as a level 20 magic user, got betrayed and lost his power dropping him to a level 1 magic user. His personality stayed pretty much the same, but did become a little more humble as he relearned his lost spells. Badger: started out as an armorer with a shop in Honey Wood. Didn't change much in personality, but did gain in power due to being a barbarian with great attack abilities. Bob: this is my favorite progression of any character I've ever seen in a D&D game, ever. He started out as a drunk gambling, elven, thief. As he progressed he gained some of the best powers I've ever seen in game. He started to explode things from the inside out by jumping into them and exploding them. He gained his first crazy power when out exploding random animals, (I'm not telling too much here, watch from the beginning to find out all the fun details.), but he ended up with bat like flying powers. In conclusion, the character progression has been some of the best character progression that I've ever seen in a D&D game. It has been enjoyable to watch. Also, the acting skills are top level. Great fun everyone.

    I have a theory as to why the mace might be a holy weapon. I believe that during the crusades, because priests weren't allowed to shed blood (which is why the Inquisition handed guilty members to the state for execution) bishops or priests that found themselves fight would use maces, or hammers to crush rather than cut their enemies. Not sure how much of that is myth or fact, but it is something I'd heard before.

  • @SRosenberg203
    @SRosenberg2037 ай бұрын

    2:20 I think the "Maces as holy weapons" trope in Fantasy comes from the fact that in the Middle Ages, when priests and bishops went into battle, they'd use a mace rather than a sword. There were strictures in the Catholic Church against clergymen "smiting with the sword", but when a more military-minded bishop or whatever wanted to go into battle, they'd skirt this requirement by using maces as a kind of loophole since the Church Law was clearly meant to deter priests from fighting at all. But if you did see a bishop on a battlefield, he'd be using a mace instead of a sword, so that probably stuck around in our social memory and was translated into fantasy stories when that genre started to develop.

    Another really cool synergy you can do with Polearm Master is with the Grasp of Hadar invocation (fighter/warlock multi-class): Eldritch blast, pull them into your range, stab, action surge to attack again, and bonus action to smack em with the ass end of your glaive (or spear, halberd, quarterstaff, etc) because fuck em. Combined with Sentinel, it is a DISGUSTINGLY effective synergy to murk baddies with; they basically have to either teleport/misty step away, or get lucky enough for you to miss their AC on your AoO. And if you're feeling extra-cheeky, Mounted Combatant, get yourself advantage on all those rolls before riding off into the sunset. And if anyone's wondering, yes, the Polearm Master feat DOES override the general conditions of an attack of opportunity, as it specifically states that "creatures provoke an opportunity attack from you when they ENTER the reach you have with that weapon." It does not say they have to "move" into your range, only that they have to enter it. As the PHB states, specific rules override general rules, making this a totally legal maneuver
