This was the song that if you left it playing on your turntable after it was finished it would repeat the word “Beat . . Beat . . Beat until you lifted the tone arm off the record.

I would easily confuse this with Phil Collins, as it sounds very close to his "You Can't Hurry Love." Who was "My Sharona?" A Sharon? That their only hit?

Cool record. I looked this up on Discogs and there were no U.S. pressings listed. It would have been a long shot here, but I did hear it on the radio a few times back in 1981. The song has sort of a Tin Pan Alley vibe to it; it's a little like hearing the Kinks cover an upbeat Barry Manilow song.

@Flickyhecky Thanks for explaining. That would possibly be the case, however there is a chance that its not neccesarily from the vinyl version. I have this track on at least two 80s compilation CDs and in both instances it fades at the end. I haven't actually heard the continuous loop at the end as both my turntables stop automatically. As such when I first heard the vinyl version it really took me by suprise when it suddenly ended. I thought there was a fault with my turntable

Did this actually come off the 7 inch vinyl version or from somewhere else? Asking because on the single the "Beat" bit at the end continues into the runout groove or cuts out depending on what sort of turntable you have

The only think not to like about this is the repeat-to-fade finish... it would've been even better with a big build-up to a dead finish. Very clever song all round though, if you're only ever gonna have one hit, it might as well be like this!

Nearly identical to the hit song by Phil Collins, "You Can't Hurry Love." kzread.info/dash/bejne/dW192aSDibfdgZM.html Probably based on "Barbara Ann" by The Beach Boys. "Weird Al" has a funny parody on this, too. (I would name the song, but alas, we'd be in trouble...)
