THE LONGEST RIDE: SC Education Board blesses "shameful" special needs school bus regulation
THE LONGEST RIDE: A SC school district & the SC Department of Education paid $2.5M to settle two lawsuits after non-verbal children were attacked more than 100 times on a bus in 2018. There was no other adult on the bus, aside from the driver.
Rep. Richie Yow drew up a bill that would've forced SC school districts to put an adult aide on every special needs bus with restrained children. The SCDOE killed Yow's bill in Feb.
The SCDOE put up a regulation suggesting districts use an adult aide on special needs buses "if" an aide is available. On June 13, the state Board of Education voted to pass first reading of that regulation.
The reason the SCDOE won't mandate aides: if an aide calls in sick, children will be stranded at schools or would never get to school in the first place.

So shameful to have let this happen even ONCE🥺‼️
It's time for the people to bring Justice against these
Fire the guy in the black beard who is incompetent. He is guilty of participation in these crimes against the defenseless special needs children. FIRE HIM!
Always knew politicians were ignorant but the ones in S.C. take it to a different level then ive seen
This is EXACTLY what an Investigative Journalist should be like.... Why can't we have more like Jody Barr??? Because it takes dedication and hard work!! Thanks Jody Barr 😁👍

The outlaw Josey wales gets it 🙂👍🏼. My niece is named Josey. We says it’s for Josephine. It’s not.
6:32 So basically they would rather have vulnerible kids being assaulted.. just as long as they are guarenteed to get to and from school.
Great follow up!

Thanks! We're here for the ending...whenever it happens.
How many "on call" bus drivers and aids could you employ a year with 2 million dollars?
I would love to ask to people that are trying to stop this bill. How would they feel if their child was on the bus and their child was the one that was beat? You cannot put a price on a child that's disabled God-bless those children.

Their children aren't on these busses so they don't care. They're narcissists and psychopaths. They care about themselves and their own. Gov is full of them.
Its painfully obvious that as long as its not one of their children it's okay for it to happen. I think they are just making excuses as to why they can not make it happen. Why not use a grandparent or someone just looking to get out of the house for a few hours a day to ride on these buses. But something tells me they aren't even think outside the box to make it work so that no one else gets hurt.

Nah. It's the money. They don't want to pay more employees, they want to pay the current ones to keep the incompetence
So their going to still put vulnerable kids at risk even though they know there's a risk their going ahead with it? Wow that puts the whole state at risk of a lawsuit when another child gets hurt.
This keeping US "$afe" BS isn't really doing Sew!
My man !!
Thanks for sharing and the updates.
The bus driver is RIGHT THERE, loading another child. Secure the child then STOP the bully.
follow the money
Gotta wonder if the bus driver is deaf.

Driver has to be paying attention to the road and it's actually against policy/law for them to stop anywhere except designated pickup/dropoff points ...in the one clip if you look close driver is loading student in wheelchair and can't just let go of the chair ...I have a grandchild who rides a special needs bus and it ALWAYS has attendant and driver on it to ensure safety of everyone on the bus

@@grouchyoleguy I get that he has to watch the road. But 200 times! Certainly he saw and heard something. He could have told the parents their daughter is punched in the face every day by an animal. Could have told the boys parents that he is violent and dangerous to other children. Could have told the school about the abuse. Institutional abuse. Nothing changes until someone stands up for the defenseless. Meanwhile this will continue until another meeting months away? Horrifying! Shameful!

@@grouchyoleguy of course I don’t know if he did or did not do any those things. The problem is that it happened so many times. If a bus driver told me my daughter was being punched in the face, she would not be riding the bus any more. Hard for me to believe the parents would have put her back on that bus, as if they didn’t care. The driver didn’t notice? Is that what you think? She’s screaming and that turd is moving around punching her. I’ve driven a school bus. Don’t tell me he didn’t know. The district, school, driver can share responsibility.
Man I'm just as hot as when this first came to light. Fucking sit on taking action until the last minute using that to leverage the vote.
Those children got in trouble and got yelled at!
Does the bus driver have no control of what is happening on the bus? When there is a disruption, (or beating), the driver is to pull off to the side of the road and get on the 2 way radio and request assistance.

Right... blame the driver... You really don't get it. Glad you don't have kids and don't live here.

It's different when dealing with a special needs bus
They don’t even have enough people to DRIVE the damn busses. Let alone put ANOTHER ADULT other than the bus driver on all busses in SC.
They can bring a substitute teacher in to work as an aide on the bus. The same as a substitute for the class. The aide does not need a CDL to drive the bus.
Be significantly different if their kids were on the bus……
This is sadism at its finest towards minors with autism. Substitute or standard bus driver, the bus driver should've pulled over and immediately called transportation via the radio to request assistance. I have autism, ADHD, and a generalized anxiety disorder and was actually bullied and/or harassed at Herndon Middle School and APTS. Even Amtrak won't tolerate this abusive behavior on their trains or Thruway shuttles
Why didn’t the bus driver stop the bus and do something?
The gentleman who stopped the legislation because he didn't like it...should have to watch the video if the kid getting hit everyday. Then he needs to be put in that situation of someone hitting him and no one around. He is just person who shouldnt be in government as he has no emotional range
I really with KZread had more than a like or dislike button. I don’t “like” this video! It makes me angry!!! These kids are knowingly being allowed to be hunt and no one seems to care!
Jody bar I just got a message from you to cut you off do not do that you too cuz you're doing a good job Jodi part Jody Bart Jody Park dirty bar you see what to do in Jody bar
Parents that send their children to these animals should do better.
The driver is a DEI hire!! He knew that was going on! He has no shame!!
