So you find it more interesting that she might have been heterosexual or is it that you find it more palatable, more relatable? If she could have been straight, she could just as easily have been lesbian.

These are interesting podcasts, but I lose respect for the people involved once I find out that they favor the counter-factual story-lines and believe Lizzie 'couldn't' have been the murderess'. Why? Everything actually does suggest her guilt and these podcasts reveal that, more or less. But you still can't believe it could be her? What am I missing here?

I always thought that too, until I watched Discovering New England History by David Norton. A neighbor said she saw William Borden (Andrew's illegitimate son) leaving their house at 11am carrying something. He was a horse renderer who used an axe to kill horses. The police didn't want to hear it because they had their suspect. This still happens today.

…. There was no blood on the Lizzie Borden. Andrew Borden’s murder was especially fresh and his blood was still warm and still oozing. Everyone who met with Lizzie after the tragedy stated that they saw no blood on her and that she was nicely dressed and her hair was not out of place. That’s number one. Number two, where is the murder weapon? The police never found it, the prosecution never found it, how could Lizzie Borden dispose of it? How? And where is it? And number three, which is iffy, I grant you, is the strength needed to wield the weapon to break open the human skull. To break open the skull multiple times. I think there are certain women in those days that could have done it but I think Lizzie Borden and women of her class could not do it. It took tremendous strength and it took tremendous accuracy and these murders were done quickly, within minutes these two persons were sadly murdered. These three factors give me more than reasonable doubt of Lizzie Borden’s guilt. She didn’t do it.

@@Jasper7182009 there's plenty of evidence she did it. She had motive & opportunity. The crime scene photo shows a coat folded under Andrews head on the sofa & 2 sofa cushions next to him. It was a boiling hot day. Andrew wouldn't have needed a coat on top of his waistcoat & jacket for his walk . So...why go get your coat for a cushion for your head when there are 2 cushions right there? Lizzie wore it to commit the murders then put it there . We only have her word that the bloody rags in the cellar bucket were menstrual rags . Uncle John had an airtight alibi. Her sister Emma was visiting in Fairhaven. The murder weapon was one of the flat irons Lizzie used to iron hankies that morning. Flat irons came in a variety of sizes & weighed between 5-9 pounds. In Abby's autopsy photo the biggest wound on the back of her head is shaped like a flat iron. Andres photo is too blurred to see anything. The front door was locked . The maid was seen cleaning the rear outside windows when Abby died at approx 9.30am. & was in her attic bedroom, unwell, at 11am. Lizzie raised the alarm approx 5mins later . Lizzie had tried to get the maid to go to a fabric sale in town, after she'd finished the windows, but the maid was too unwell . Why did she want the maid to go out? Lizzie, who then went to the barn looking for fishing lines & was "eating pears in the barn, looking out the window" would have seen anyone sneaking into the house via the latched back door. The week before, the row over Andrew gifting a house to Abbys relative got so bad both sisters moved out for 3 days. On their return Lizzie told friends they were still avoiding Abby & Andrew & staying in their rooms all day . The day before the murders Lizzie tried to buy poison but her request was refused. 2 days after the murder she burns a dress "with paint on it".

@@Jasper7182009 I agree, don't believe Lizzie did it! If you look at the whole picture I don't see how anyone could believe she did it. You made very good points.

I know we are tempted to compare the Lizzie Borden case with the JonBenet Ramsey case but you shouldn’t go there. Everyone knows that Patsy Ramsey wrote the ransom note. The parents were not guilt free. They were involved first-hand in what happened that night … much more than Lizzie Borden was involved. Lizzie Borden was in the vicinity and she may have known that something was going to happen but that was 1892. Not modern day 1996. IMHO
