My son loves his, and it's definitely worth the £10 for the oil shocks. He's beaten the snot out of it for 2 years, and the only damage has been one CVD, and 2 shells. Definitely recommended. 😎👍🏻
Not having music helps us appreciate how hard it was landing.
I have the hbx 16889 brushless version of this. Upgraded to oil shocks with 30wt in them, larger tires, metal wheels, metal axles and normal 12mm hex. Also reinforced the body and can confirm it is a little beast. Everyone wondered how it doesn't break on the 30ft bowl. Oh and it has great air control with no problems back flipping and lining up the landing.
Was my first car back in the hobby a couple of years ago.had the bezgar 6 basically the same car.came with all metal gears shafts diffs and oil shocks little brushed motor.cant fault it.great little truck and unbelievably strong
I'm getting more and more interested in rc's that aren't crawlers. I think I want a no prep drag car and a drift car. I like the scale look and most bashers don't look real but I'm starting to appreciate the fun factor methinks 🤘🍻🤘
I got a Hyper Go brushless truck, partially based on the glowing review it got on this channel, and I gotta say it lives up to the hype. It's the best small scale basher money can buy right now.
Upto 103k subscribers already 😀 This truck really took a pounding, i like the features it has and seems a great basher for kids, the run time being a key feature. (Not going to mention the stunning body 😉) I am putting this on my list.....
Just showing some love… been looking at getting an rc car for a while and finally pulled the trigger today! So much fun. Greater starter for getting into it, will progress to a full build in due course but having a great time with this!!!
Amazon sells a version of this (HBX 16889a with the pro notably missing) under Nuoke branding. I purchased it not knowing that and managed to gradually upgrade it to the pro. Main differences are the brushless motor is smaller in this version (but pinion is bigger on the smaller motor resulting in about the same top speed) then the things you pointed out with the diffs, CVD's and shocks.
My son has the same and after a lot of abuse still didn't break. So worth every penny 👌🏻🤟🏻
i have a mjx truck its brushed but still fun, it did break the plastic shock tower but it took a hard land flat on its top. so I am happy with it so far.
This rc chassis is so good that 100 different brands are selling it with different names which is a good thing to buy parts at low prices. This one comes with metal gearrs orr plastic? Plastic are reliable and silent on the brushed version and for 3,50eur you can rebuild all the transmission lol. Love this RC and currently have 2 of them (basic brushed and pro brushless). You can never go wrong buying any of this versions. Absolutely bagain for the fun and quality offered
Bloody hell, tough little truck! Nice work as always.
I’ve just ordered x2, one for me and one for my son, both colours! Thank you, subscribed
I have the truggy brushed, only upgrade I made was to put oil shocks on it and I think its well worth it. Great fun and I think its. worth the money.
I love to watch your videos it is really budget friendly specially for low budget hobbyist. I was inspired to by one of the wltoys buggy and I convert it to rally car for me to catch up with my friends using expensive rig, wltoys is cheap but it is really competitive. Stay safe and more honest reviews on rc to come
Fantastic bashing, Phil! Pretty impressive little truck! 😃 I hope they make a pro version, like you said! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
every video I've seen on these they always do very well. Great footage bud 👍
I would have to bolt some lead weights to the back of it so it's not constantly front flipping. That would wear on my nerves eventually.
The 16889A has long been one of the best versions to get if you didn't want to fork out for the pro version
I may not have an FTX Tracer but I do have a Yamaha Tracer. Come to think of it I also have a Yamaha Xmax and a Traxxas Xmax. I guess the rc companies and the motorbike companies don't mind 'stealing' each other's names 😀
I LOVE the Tracer, but you have to replace those crappy shocks - which is £20 and a 5 minute job and very worth it. I got 3 now! We race them together and just brilliant fun in small spaces too. I want to try the Granite Grom next to see how they compare
Certainly a cool lil buggy. Be cool to see how much better it would be running oil filled shocks Phil 👍
My MJX Hyper Go monster truck is due to be delivered today after a month coming over from China! Cannot wait! Largely on your recommendation!
I bought one for my boy, then bought another to run along with him, as you say cheap fun basher without the dreaded early return to the workshop! we aint been able to break em yet
We've been beating our 2 regularly at the skate park/beach/woods for about a year or so with zero breakages, absolutely indestructible!!! Best RC purchase I've ever made! Lol
Dissapointing about the plastic gears, i have an og brushed tracer with all the metal drivetrain upgrades (steel) on 4000kv 3s its mental! Itll do quad flips off a quarter pipe! As for it not wanting to backflip, its the inertia of the wheels speeding up that makes the car want to flip, so if you were leaving the ramp with the wheels already at full rpm, it wont flip, if you go up the ramp 1/2 throttle and then floor it as it leaves the ramp, im sure it would rotate backwards 🤷♂️
I have the brushed one of these and it's awesome.
I enjoyed the no music montage! 👌👍 Thanks Phil. 👊
Love your content man!!!! Keep the awesome videos coming👍👍💪💪
I really like the blue livery of the FTX tracer, it looks really good!
Ive broken it twice and I’ve had it for less than a year, I’m really using it a lot!
With some decent shocks that could be a chrap fun little driveway basher. It's definitely got those front flips on lock down! haha and it looks good!
Any plans to do a top 10 rc radio upgrade recommendations video? Cheers
About to grab one of these for my girl, looks great. she’s 3 and absolutely obsessed with my kraton and xv01. start em young 😁
Well that's a fun tough little truck 💪💪👍👍😃😃
Just ordered one for my boy along with a set of oil filled shocks looking forward to getting it 👍
Definitely one of the strongest rc platforms they take a beating and come back for more
Brilliant vid mate
Clearly that this car is so cool. I believe that this RC can beast any cars for real!
I'm sure at some point we will see a PRO version. The motor In it looks like the larger one that's in the PRO (could be wrong). Even the plastic diffs seem pretty robust so it's probably not much of an issue. 👍👍
My eldest girl has thrashed her brushed version for nearly a year and it's still going strong! She upgraded to oils shocks and it's loads better
For those who are wondering, American version is the Redcat Volcano-16. 380 brushed. 5 wire servo. Wheelie bar not included. 2 2S li-ion packs (800 mAh) Plastic rear dogbones. Different body (red+blue with stickers). Pretty fun.

Thank you. Just added that to my cart. I have a perfect skate park for this.
I had the brushed version and it was pretty tough and fun
I took my mini max out yesterday and destroyed two shocks on it just for two shock shafts now they want 25 bucks for one set
Happy Thanksgiving Tomely. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
that Zd Racing MX-07 looming on the background though~
I got one of these off eBay for 20 bucks. It said make was unknown. Now I know what brand and that I got one hell of a deal!
Me and my boy has them , we beat the crap out of them , still going , only upgraded the battery , brushed , now thinking brushless 🤔 Xmas coming up lol Love the vids
Fun Skatepark that, Went their last saturday with the Maverick Phantom XT and the WLtoys 124007, Had a blast
Cool RC and great run, have a great week and a great Thanksgiving brother
It looks a lot fun and a great little truck. It can definitely take a beating. I am sure there will many of these appearing under Christmas trees. I wonder if the esc being forward cause it to front flip? How soon are we going to see the line of Tomley r/c cars?
No oil shocks in 2022... good job FTX
Another great video mate! We love our FTX cars! Well worth the money and then some!
That’s a tough little truck
Loved this beat down, so wish that version came with hydro shox for a few more dollars tho. That's it, bc your driving skills and the truck's attitude were like watching a pro skater part, killer!!! That body HAS to be sold somewhere separately haha, my 16889 Pro needs a new alter ego. (Redcat Volcano 16 bodies are getting expensive to replace super often, love em for cheap/but FRAGILE) Hopefully you'll be interested in reviewing/testing a couple of the new to me HBX lineup that just dropped?!? I'm still stoked on HBX, LOVE my couple Hyper Pro/Hoshim trucks the same btw, but it's been a MINUTE since they dropped 2 new Pro level 12 & 16 scale bashers! Keep doing what ya do, peace from RVA!
It's the shocks with no oil causing it to bottom out on the top of the ramp and front flipping because of lack of compression damping. It would be 10x better with oil-filled shocks. They have inexpensive ones for 12 dollars on eBay for those who want to upgrade. Just measure eye to eye on the shock and purchase that length.
Hahaha I was just looking for a review of one of these thank you so much you have made my day
Best park bashers ever made for 4 of them
Mate I bought most basic one from Aliexpress. Running on my spare spare 2 s lipos. We didn't need speed for my boy😁 even that one is quick. I believe faster than 30 kmh. Thank you!!!
I realy enjoyed the driving show thanks
Fantastic Video
What the heck are they making RC cars out of these days? My old RC18 needed parts if it looked wrong at some loose dirt and now I see this little truck just pounding into the ground and driving away from it. But that brushless doesn't really strike me as any faster than a stock, silver-can brushed motor.
The tread pattern on those tires look just like the stock tires on the 1/10 Traxxas Summit.
It needs a roof skid plate

A titanium one 😊
I've just won two of these on Hobbycomps, I realise now how strong they are after seeing this video.
Be good to see a head to head with the Hyper Go, I know they kept doing revisions to that platform as it ran it's own unique battery originally

Gens Ace 3S 1300 fits perfectly in the Hyper Go - even works with the existing battery hold down.
Can you add oil to the shocks cuz if so then that's a fantastic RC
Uhh nice, the mx07 in the back ;)
What that is music too my big ears 👂 😂 love that ripping it up sounds 👊🏻Cali 510
Tough as nails 👍🏻 With oil shocks it would be so much better though. Nice bash 🔥
Nice look
My one does not want to do front flips. It could be because there is little lips on the top of the ramps so when the front wheels are slightly in the air the back ones hit the lip and make it go forward. I also put a 1900 motor in it and it goes 30mph
Got the same one just for play it’s pretty fun
Another great review, I've just subscribed to your (excellent) channel. I'm buying an FTX Tracer ASAP. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Nicolas
I believe it front flips like that because there’s no oil in the rear shocks. So when it leaves the ramp, the rear springs are last to unload and launches it into a front flip. 😀
Love your videos, thank you! Question: totally ignorant, never had an RC car, want to get one like this for me and my daughter, would it tolerate a lot of beach driving, i.e. sand and could be some water? Or any alternative suggestions if not? Thank you!
Nice video thanks
The shock towers are beefed up on the FTX brushless version not sure if that is the same with the HBX version or not?
Great little review, I have a pair of brushed Tracers for my boys (10 & 13), do you think it's worth the ££ to get them this brushless version or step up to something overall better than the Tracer platform?
Perfect for the kids to have fun, not that I wouldn't enjoy it too 😏
If you can't break it, you're not trying hard enough!!! Wheels act as a somewhat buffer and the shocks are not exposed, so this is a really good basher for anyone.
0840 here in Arkansas USA!! Mornin Tomley!!! Tha is for the video I've been wanting one of these and now that they're brushless I'm probably gonna have to go on and get one. Hey Phil have you ever had a redcat gen 8 v2? I really think I want to get one and I've watched some vids but they're not Tomley vids so I'm iffy on it. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
Do you still rate these or is there something better out now? (Budget first rc basher for a kid?)
The lightweight of it for sure lets it handle waaaay more abuse than say an arrma granite blx (my favorite basher) if that was a granite i think you would have broke atleast a shock and way more body damage
should I get this or the ftx carnage brushed???
Hehe, that thing is ridiculously tough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another awesome review mate. I’m in Australia and I’m trying to get one for my son but no we’re seems to sell them is there are different American for them here?
Can you buy replacement parts when they break?
Hi, will the Tracer body fit the HBX chassis.
My kids got me one for xmas, have to say decent little buggy. Were could i get bigger then 1000 batteries for them. ✌🏻
LOL, the FTX Tracer made all the "music"!
Can you recommend a version of this available in the US?
No one notice the showing off 1/7 beast ZD MX07 behind? haha. that one RTR selling at ~USD490 in China.
Anyone know of any alternative shells that fit without too much modifying?
Have you taken the link away for the orange one on Banggood?
Fully random/stupid question with the USB charger it flashes Green does that stop once fully charged?
I've got a 4 year old, I'd like to get him an RC car, I think this is probably a bit fast, but looking for something cheap and solid. Would this run on short grass or is it too low the the ground? I'd probably get him one he could use on short grass in an open field so he couldn't easily smash it to bits.
Any Idea where to get this in the US?
Where's the skate park? Didn't know there was one in your area
