    Bwhahaha!! That was a lot for a person who is start new to the hobby. Basically I took it like the diff between gas or electric. The brushed works on more friction type motor to deal out the power like let’s say a Gas powered WTH all its moving parts. N a brushless works less and more off a Battery for its power. Idk I’m still new myself so I could be way off base. I’ll have to watch this over a few times. But your comment was great. Even how the video was edited he knew he was dumping to much information on our little brain bones.

    Driftomaniacs , I For one thought you explained the idea of using either the brushed motor for say the beginners to the more experienced and perhaps more dedicated very well indeed. For instance you explained using brushless motors would cost considerably more money because of all the extra things you would need ie: a new charger etc. so I thank You for your time and effort putting this video together. 😎

    Brushless is much better and if you buy him a ready to run car then it will come with the batteries and charger so there is no extra expense. The extra expense comes when people convert their brushed systems to brushless, it's not that big a deal if you're buying a brushless car to start with. It will be a lot faster and more exciting for him and don't forget you can turn the throttle down on the controller to make the car slower while he learns and he can start on 2s liops which is slower before upgrading him to 3s or more when he gets better. It will also be cheaper in the long-term because if he does get into rc then he will definitely end up changing a brushed system for brushless down the line then there will be the expense of a new motor,esc,batteries and charger so buy brushless from the start to save the cost later and just turn the speed down till he cam drive a bit

    I have a BSD street assault rtr car, it states that it will take a 2s or 3s lipo on the stock brushed motor & esc but since switching to the 3s, when driving for a few minute periods at over half throttle the motor starts to get stupidly hot and even smokes once I come to a stop 😒 I have the same lipo as you showed in this video. My ESC gets hot but not too hot to touch(it's fanless) I'm guessing BSD's claim that it supports 3s is a little over exaggerated, I recently had to convert it to full front wheel drive due to the back diff managing to pick a tiny stone up and destroying itself. Surely this should reduce the load on the motor due to the front wheels lack of grip during acceleration. I could understand if I was giving it full throttle but the truth is, full throttle is pointless in the current configuration, it just leaves half of the front tyres on the tarmac 😅 I'm guessing that it would be a good idea to just go brushless 🤷‍♂️

    My first was actually nitro car, parents scored it for $3. complicated when you're first starting and I think I was 12 at the time? it was always hard to get running right, but was fun when it did. Much more prefer electric just charge and go, I do want to get this old redcat tornado running again. I think its just missing a nut that attaches to a rod that then presses the clutch. still reading on how to get it tuned, and now I have to dig around and see if I have the glow plug heater charger... Might just buy another, I cant remember how fast this thing was. might be more wrong with it.

  • @DriftomaniacsRC

    @DriftomaniacsRC

    6 жыл бұрын

    Victor it depends on the ESC that's being used and the load being put on the motor. It's heat that's the killer not the batteries juice itself. Eg. if the ESC is 2S capable like say that on an Arrma Granite 4x4 mega, which has a brushed motor matched to the weight of the buggy then the brushed motor will handle 2S all day long, however if you were to put the same setup in a much heavier buggy/truck or alter the gearing substantially then the motor will be under much more load and fry. Hope that makes sense? Most of the latest Esc's by traxxas and arrma let you run 2s on brushed motors day in day out. People that fry them tend to have put them under excess lard.

We always used NICD or NIMH and used a set of 6 to 12 1156 light bulbs ran together in a series to discharge. RC really was expensive then to.

    See I’m interested in a lipo and a brushless setup as a beginner(25 years since I had my king cab), but all I see are various clips of exploding and smoking buggies. The reason for my interest in lipo is 1) length of runs. 2) charging time. 3) a small increase in power.

  • @DriftomaniacsRC

    @DriftomaniacsRC

    6 жыл бұрын

    Okay now when it comes to lipo fires and explosion don't let this put you off. Lipos are very safe if handled correctly. The main two points to be aware of is don't let them discharge too low, if they do they swell up burst open and catch fire. However most esc's have a lipo mode, which cuts the power off when the voltage gets too low and avoids this happening. Car fires occur when people use a lipo but have the esc set to nimh, the lipo then discharges too low. Also don't overcharge them, I ALWAYS balance charge mine, this keeps the cells as the name suggested balanced to the same voltage, mah, charging fires occur when people don't balance charge them and overcharge them. They then puff up and the result is the same as above. Buy a lipo charger that can both balance charge AND storage charge batteries, as the name suggests storage charge is used for lipos when you're not going to use them for a while. They say to leave lipos stored half full, don't store them empty as they voltage will drop over time and they can swell up. Now for the good stuff 1.) It's not just lenght of runs but the power curve in those runs, unlike a nimh battery which tails off during use, the lipo will pretty much give full power until the lipo low voltage cutoff kicks in indicating the packs empty. 2.) Charging time - Some lipos can be charged at 2 or 3 times their max dischage rate - NOT ALL LIPOS though, so check before you buy/charge. This can reduce charging time. A 5000mah pack take my good charger about an hour - that's a big pack though. Get a lipo charger that can charge up to 6S, you may start out with 2S or 3s but then get a bigger car with 2 x4 S as an example 3.) The increase in power and speed is substantial. More so if you go with a brushless motor. Note there are a lot of brushed cars out there that now take lipos. However to run a brushless motor you'll need a brushless esc as well. I would say go for it, but ask questions along the way. Also you will find bad stories about EVERY lipo manufacturer. Some maybe true, others bad luck, and most? People simply not following the above. Hope that helps out

    All they hear is blah blah blah. Been there done that with people put the brushed nex to brushless and they see it's 2 times as fast on same bat . Then they go I want brushless truck it's like a story once told some only believe what they can see. 😆 Nice review 👍 The sad part people buying brushed when same car 70 more to be brushless new and changing it after you buy brushed to brushless will set you back like 150. More. It kills My heart when I see new rc people buy brushed only to see they should of went brushless. Wasted money .They thought no difference but price. Like brushed only gave you a longer lasting motor. But it's like having toy rc brushed to hobby grade rc brushless in speed.

    I do suggest you try making your own videos then you might realise just what it takes to put one together. Everyone is a good armchair critic! I'm not going to spend $200 on a new mic that may or may not work, if it's no better than this one I've just got $200 less to spend on new RC's.

    It is my understanding that Lipo battery technology is very dangerous because of fire hazard.

  • @DriftomaniacsRC

    No Lipos are safe when handled correctly. fires occur when people charge incorrectly or over discharge them. Lipo's also need careful storage otherwise if you leave them too long they discharge too low on their own and fire car occur. They just need careful handling!

    Lipos are usally not dangerous. They are a lot faster, get warmer and can start a fire, but that is really rare(if you use several big batteries driving fast without waiting inbetween). If you drive outside( not on track) you should think of moving to lipo after a while. Keep in mind that if nimh batteries are decharged fully, they are not ruined, but if that happens with lipo you can just throw them away.

    Lithium polymers may seem a bit too pro and a choice for some engineers, but many consumer friendly items are also powered by Lithium Polymer packs. I mean phones and those drones with crazy cameras. Lipos are safe and reliable way of producing power!
