Notes edited as I watch: I love that Usopp and Nami have a special relationship because they're both regular people without monstrous strength and abilities like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji (known in the fanbase as the Monster Trio) Golden week is a holiday in Japan. A series of four holidays closely spaced together and observed at the end of April and beginning of May. Back in Syrup Village, one of the wild stories Usopp invented and told Kaya was of a GIANT GOLDFISH, who left behind island-sized poops. 😊 When I realized this, I started keeping track of the lies Usopp has told. I love when Sanji goes on his James Bond style solo missions, that's when i keep an eye on him. He made such a clutch big-picture save for our Strawhats this time, otherwise the log pose would have taken a year to set. I also loved that the goal of Zoro and Sanji's competition mirrored Dorry and Brogy's. "Who caught the bigger prey?"

So far you've met Mr 13 (the Otter) who was paired with Miss Friday (the Vulture, and since together they are Friday 13, they are known as the Unluckies), Mr 9 who was paired with Miss Wednesday (Vivi), Mr 8 (Igaram) who was paired with Miss Monday (days of the week), Mr 5 who's paired with Miss Valentine (Valentine's Day), Mr 3 who's paired with Miss Golden Week (so now we have 2 holidays names), and Mr 0 (Crocodile) who's paired with Miss All Sunday

Your "Come back home feeling with one piece" is so relatable to me. Like you, I too, was bouncing around watching diferent animes at once. But whenever I came back to one piece. It really hit me with weird emotions. I do feel the reason for that is its world. You can tonally shift drastically in one arc multiple times yet never lose that one piece vibe. Hard hitting stuff like racism to fun moments with the crew. Both of them have one piece stench all in it, and I think that's the biggest strength of one piece. Tackling Nuanced themes with its own unique presentation that we have all come to love

Hi, again. 😊👋 Thank you for the lovely video. Don't feel strange about the emotions; I've been reading this story for 24 years and I still get teary eyed at different scenes all the time.😅 The heart, the friendships, the soul of it all is just such an integral part of me now. I once started misting up, because the very first anime ending song played unexpectedly - ah, the nostalgia. 💜 I know Oda himself once called Luffy dumb, but I honestly wonder if he would still say that today. I read a comment once that stated that they saw Luffy as this person who could instinctually arrive at the right answers for the most challenging phenomena while also being that guy spending 2 hours trying to push a pull door - I kinda like that description more.😂

One thing us adults might forget is that as children we were more sensible. Meaning that when we watch something sad, we dont just find it sad, but really feel it and take it with us. Same for other things. I learned a lot from anime and ig there are different mindsets everyone can benefit from at any age. One Piece, Naruto are good examplea of this. Also I think you would enjoy Fairy Tail, its similar to one piece in terms of characters or the (comedic) vibe and a great thing to watch or read.

Wow, this is a great review. I love how deep you’re getting into this conversation. This arc is really the one that cracks the world open. Nothing thus far has had anything like a isolated prehistoric island with giants. Dorry and Broggy are actually based on an old Japanese myth about a Red and Blue ogres. It’s also a concept that tends to appear in a lot of manga. This is probably also the time to tell you one of Usopp’s lies to Kaya in Syrup Village it brought to life by this Goldfish at the end. It’s a giant fish that eats islands. I’m excited as always to see you get further and further into the series.

38:00 One of the most wonderful aspects of this series: Just because you don't see it, it doesn't mean the world stood still. It's always moving, things continue to happen whether we are privy to them or not. And the cover stories are windows into some of those moments, and I love it. Every side character is the main character of their own story. And some of them will never amount to anything, but some will, and it will affect the narrative again, like Buggy and Alvida capturing Luffy in Loguetown. The world is alive and lived in, and it is amazing

I am loving these videos. One piece is a journey, read at your pace, take breaks, come back to it. The strawhats felt like siblings to me, specifically the east blue 5. Nami is older sister to everyone. Nami and Usopp are both cowardly compared to the trio of fighters. Zoro and Sanji bicker as if they have been brothers their entire lives. Usopp and Luffy party as if they have been brothers their entire lives, and in that case it may be partially true, as luffy was partially raised by Shank's crew who Yassop is a member (Usopp's dad). I love the send off through the goldfish. Its truly the first scene that feels beyond the narrative as we know it. Everything grand and awe inspiring have and are related to the Pirate King and his exploits/journey up until this point. Dory and Brogy standing on the coast ready to attack, speaking of "a giant serpent soaked in blood" that is the only thing capable of withstanding their attack. Luffy has mastered his trust and is calm as they are swallowed. His faith in his honorary strawhats is undeniable. I never thought about the giants as honorary strawhats, but after hearing you say it, it makes a lot of sense. Also, did you remmeber a particular line from Usopp after seeing the big goldfish? If you enjoyed this arc so much that recalling it at you spoke made you tear up, you are in for a treat next arc. There is a particular line of dialogue that we one piece fans venerate next arc. I used that particular speech to bookend the eulogy I gave for my father's memorial service, reading the speech at the start and ending with my own iteration/remix of it. If I find what exactly i wrote, i will comment it on your next one piece video. Thanks for the great content PS - If you do calvin and Hobbes review, I'll have to dig out those old books and read them with you

I'm so happy you love the world building. You are still just on the tip of the iceberg. Oda is a master of expanding his world. We learn more as the Strawhats do, but in a way that is organic and real. Every country/island has its own history before the Strawhats and it will continue after they leave and sometimes we even get to see them again. It's one of my favorite things about the series.

Golden Week is a series of holidays in Japan that eat up an entire week, creating a week long vacation for the majority of the population. Shonen Jump, the magazine that publishes One Piece, doesn't publish two weeks out of the year - New Years and Golden Week. Mrs. Golden Week fits into the pattern of the higher ranked women of Baroque Works who are holiday themed - Mrs. Merry Christmas, Bon Clay (the Obon festival is essentially the Japanese day of the dead) and, of course, the weekend days of the week, Saturday and Sunday.

    1. it makes me so happy to hear, that you missed One Piece already :D 2. we all know that feeling, we are akways waiting for more episodes or manga chapters :) 3. Well the emotional rollercoaster is the biggest and best part of One Piece, there is absolutely no possibility to withstand that ^^, but as you can imagine if you watch the anime this fact is a lot heavier, especially in the combination with the colours and background music 😢 4. this snailphones are crazy XD 5. As you were talking about usopp, i have a small advise for you, Usopp is mostly the average human, we all are afraid sometimes we don't have superpowers but we also have ambitions ^^ 5.1 and now the real thing i wanted to say and what i meant by "advise", you really should remember all the lies usopp tells while this Manga is continuing , because in the usopp arc (syrup village) he told Kaya a lie about the fact he met a giant goldfish, and guess what happend in the current chapter you read through :P 6. And well about that "I forget things" welcome to our world xD, the storybuilding is just to complex, it's unavoidable to forget a lot, but gladly all the things that actually play a big role later on are coming up at a certain point of the story ^^ 7. I mean i said it before many times already, but you can't say it to less, that Oda is just a master of putting so many true facts, history, legends/myths and very deep statements into his masterpiece ^^, but by the next arc, you will understand even more what i'm talking about (even though you got it already i guess :P) , but trust me , while you are reading the next chapters it won't be that hard for you to figure out which Phrase i mean by that :P, (also i have a feeling that this specific scene will mean even more to you as you can imagine :) )

The thing that's great about one piece, or one of THE MANY things, rather Is that it sorta stands with you like an old friend! Over 12 years of reading, watching it-- I've had periods of time, months, even 2 years at the most Where I didn't watch or read, but it's ALWAYSSS there for me to come back to, pick back up on, And those breaks often times really allowed live events, perspective changes to allow me to interpret the scope and meaning of things in a far more rich way at times! One piece for me is an ever-present best friend, who has built a policy of "come and go as you please, and we'll always pick right back up where we left off" and there's something very beautiful and uplifting about that principle ALONE. one piece has been with me from middle school all the way through graduating from college, and it seems like there's always new details to glean that come back around that i NEVER noticed-- that VERY few have. Or new lessons to learn that simply weren't accessible before. I'm someone who has really struggled with commitments into the very long-term But one piece's gentle, whimiscal, addictingly fun energy, ethos has offered me this. Invaluable place i can always retreat back to and remind myself how to smile, cry, and love-- even when life at the time may be ruthlessly cold or seemingly unfair One piece was/is actually instrumental in helping to teach me so many things,

Hi shelly, great video as usual! ❤ Really enjoy them and you are very endearing. When you talked about feeling emotional over watching the giants next to the small characters and appretiating the ideals and themes that One Piece stands for, I completely agree. And I feel the same way! Don't worry about "not getting it" because you certainly are. And of course, the best the manga has to offer is yet to come. And I can't wait to watch you get there. And you are on point about Dorry and Broggy's fight. It is like sportsmanship, honor, the pleasure of competition. And well, the great thing about conpetition is that it brings out the best in people, it makes you pursue excelence and greatness and makes you always become better than before. So it can be something pretty admirable, I'd say! Also DO watch anime clips for the giants particular laugh. Over the course of the story there will be many distinct and unique laughs!! ❤🎉

A Little Garden with dinosaurs, two giant warriors, a weird candle man and a girl who can persuade dumb people like our captain to do stupid things. Perfectly encapsulates one piece. Oh, regarding One Piece not being for the age group of your sons. I wanted to write that too first, but didn't do it. BUT, I'm not sure if you got the comments right. To be honest, I didn't read the other peoples comments, maybe the comments actually were meant the way you took them. SECOND BUT, I don't think they meant it as in, your boys shouldn't watch it. A lot of People, me including, grew up with one piece, together with tons of other anime. Here in Germany back in my childhood days there was the TV-Program "Pokito". There they brought one Anime after the other, from 12:00 - 17:00 o' clock There, every Anime only got 1 Episode a day, them being 20 minutes long. In other words, a lot of different Anime over the years. To finally get to the point. A lot of people who grew up with Anime, just like me, often say that One Piece did't interest them at all. All the other Anime were so much better. Until we all got around 14-16 years old xD Suddenly One Piece became everyones favourite. Even a few One Piece KZreadr already talked about it and me and my friends agree 100%, that we think, that One Piece is too emotionally complex (or something) for children. So, .. to break this long comment down to 1 sentence: I (we) don't think One Piece is not suited for your young boys, they might just be bored by it. (Like "all" of us in that age) :-)

BTW: if you are doing too many series at once and start missing One Piece, why dont you schedule One Piece videos to be biweekly for example and the other series changing every second week. Since One Piece is so massive compared to everything and probably has the biggest reach on the manga front for you channel. Baroque works names: for women are based on holidays and week days, the “better” the holiday the higher the rank For men it’s numbers, the closest to 0 being more important In the next arc there is a character introduction that has been revised a couple of times, a lot of people have said that it’s sort of “counter productive” and it might be worth watching the anime for the last revision of their introduction

some side notes to remember on Little Garden ... 1. the big goldfish is somewhat predicted by Usopp on his made up stories that he met a giant goldfish that makes island size poops ...w/c will become a staple that some of Usopp's ubsurd claims may eventually come true... 2. Sanji's quirk of being MIA on some battles only to find he is somewhere signifcant on the background will also be a running theme... 3 and lastly Oda's running theme of having present characters do almost exact same thing as past characters or characters did in the past ... in this example Zoro and Sanji competing the biggest catch ...same thing that started Brogy and Gory's decades long battle

The female agents are all named after a day or time period I suppose. Golden week to my understanding in Japan is akin to Spring break in the US. And in a comment somewhere Oda apparently noted that Miss All-Sunday is named after all the Sundays of the year. Not sure why she's all the Sunday's (Sundays?) while Vivi was just plain miss Wednesday but apparently her name isn't in reference to any holiay or anything.

I've watched Akira when I was like 10 (massively recommend, btw), OG RoboCop when I was like 6-7, same as Tim Burton's Batman movies that apparently traumatized a bunch of US parents of kids my generation, and oh, so many worse things, up to and including The Entity (the movie that inspired a very questioned scene with Nami), The Blob, The Thing, and so many 80s classic horror movies before the age of 10. As long as your kids know that fiction and reality are different things, then it's fully up to you to decide what they can and cannot watch, and they won't have any issues because of that

Welcome back to One Piece =) In One Piece you're going to be visiting back to the idea that "treasure" is very different for everybody. Also, sometimes you'll be going back to "Ussop's lies"; one of the stories he tells to his friend Kaya in his hometown is about a giant goldfish so big that his poop was of the size of an island. That fish in the end of this arc was a giant goldfish. About baroque works, I'm not sure if you noticed but, all agents get paired for missions, 1 male with a number for code name, and 1 female with a day name for code name. I don't remember if the system was already explained or not, but I think you got from Sanji's call that Mr. Zero is a very important guy. =)
