It was commissioned by Walt Disney as Silly Symphony cartoons, along with Merbabies and Pipe Dreams. However, Merbabies was the only one brought by Disney and the other two were sold to MGM.
Scott Bradley would reuse that opening arrangement of "Turkey in the Straw" twice: In 1940's "Tom Turkey and his Harmonica Humdiggers" and 1945's "Jerky Turkey"
So...he wins by doping. The chicken who won by taking drugs is the hero?

My dad had this cartoon in B&W and would show it to his grandchildren on his old projector. My kids would come over and always ask grandpa to show it to them. Amazing since cartoons at the time were on the TV, in color, and with sound. For them this was a special treat. Thanks so much for sharing.

Gosh, MGMsure loved using chickens in their cartoons.
Thank you for uploading. Used to watch it on Kuwait TV in mid 70s. Ah memories of childhood !
