The Light Princess | Creating Princess Althea's Costume | National Theatre
This short film goes into the National Theatre's costume workshop and fitting room to show how a beautiful dress, worn by Rosalie Craig as Althea in The Light Princess, was designed and created for the stage. We learn how Designer Rae Smith's period inspirations are turned into a finished garment by Head Ladies' Cutter Sarah Mercer, finally seeing the detail of the dress close-up.

Can I just say that the actress is STUNNING! Her eyes are gorgeous and her facial bone structure is flawless!
The Light Princess is a Scottish fairy tale by George MacDonald. It was published in 1864 as a story within the larger story Adela Cathcart. Drawing on inspiration from "Sleeping Beauty", it tells the story of a princess afflicted by a constant weightlessness, unable to get her feet on the ground, both literally and metaphorically, until she finds a love that brings her down to earth. An animated version was released in 1978. In 2013, a musical version by Tori Amos and Samuel Adamson inspired by the original story was premiered for the Royal National Theatre in London.---Wikipedia
Gorgeous appearance! This is what I imagined Belle's dress to be in Beauty And The Beast when I was a little girl! The PERFECT gold tone for a princess! but so much lighter than Belle's dress normally appears

Sometimes like this is what it should've been for the 2017 film. As soon as I saw the final product, I thought of Belle.

@@AhSatan the Belle dress in the movie was actually a huge let down for me. I thought they could have done something way better than what they came up with. It was rather bland and boring.
I want about a hundred more videos like this. Is there more of the making of the Light Princess??
This is some incredible work... I'm always impressed by the detail that goes into costumes :)

Nice work
would love to help sewing this dress. love sewing theatre costumes
Does anyone know what part of the show she wears this dress? I see most pictures of her in the bloomers. How does she manage to float in that dress? Is there a harness on underneath or is she lifted by actors. So beautiful!

I'm pretty sure she's on the ground for the portion of the show when she wears this- it's when she sings No H20 I think.
Fabulous work! Stunning dress! I have to say I'm surprised by the number of stitchers wearing skirts or dresses to work. That kind of clothing has never been allowed at the shops I've worked at.

Seriously? In a scene shop I understood, but I wore skirts and dresses all the time when I worked in the costume shop.
They took Belle's dress from the remake and actually made it pretty

Incomprehensible how a country that hosts the Royal Opera House, National Theatre, and dozens of other world renowned cultural institutions in the capital alone, can be subjected to Brexit. A bit like the Visigoths sacking Rome.
Wow, she sounds enthusiastic...
this video is so bad
